Re: Dual install of TB!

2002-02-26 Thread Hanspeter Schaffner

Hello Carren,

The trouble with that is though that I would just about need to have
my container mounted all the time so that TB! could put downloaded
mail into the right places wouldn't I?

That is, what I do. - I have BestCrypt installed that generates virual
disks to store all sensitive data. These disks can be used like real
physical disks.

What would happen if it tried
to download mail while the container was unmounted?

You get an error message when you try to start tb.

Question re eTrust warning re TB Tmp file

2002-02-26 Thread ETM

eTrust EZ Antivirus real-time protection has found that
C:/windows/temp/bat1020.tmp is infected with HTML.MimeExploit
Virus.

What is this? I have trashed, compressed mail, deleted the tmp file and it appears
to re-create itself and then the warning results in a newly
numbered tmp file. I keep getting the warning which may well
be a false-positive since an on-line scan through HouseCall
(P-cillin)indicates I do not have any worms/virii. A full scan by my
on-system eTrust indicates no virii/worms. However, the warning
clearly is being triggered by something TB has in its tmp files.
Can anyone give me an explanation of what is going on?

The new warning just indicated the bat tmp file is now 5020!!

Elaine

I'd say the name seems to indicate a virus/worm which exploits a
security hole in Outlook (Express), possibly via a malformed MIME
header. I don't know if eTrust has a virus database, but you could try
to get more information from them. I tried Symantec's database, but they
probably have a different naming scheme and I couldn't find anything
about this virus.

E What is this? I have trashed, compressed mail, deleted the tmp file

E Can anyone give me an explanation of what is going on?

As long as you have the virus in your mailbox, it will always reappear.
When The Bat downloads mail, it does so by storing the messages in temp
files first and importing them together into your message base. So every
time you try to download mail, TB creates a new and infected temp file.
Your virus scanner blocks access to this file, so TB can't import it
into its message base. That's why it never gets deleted, because it
couldn't be imported.

Try deleting the responsible message with your mail dispatcher (hint:
it's a message which is in your mailbox but not in your local message
base).

E The new warning just indicated the bat tmp file is now 5020!!

The number has nothing to do with the problem, it's not incrementing but
a (pseudo-)random number.

What would be the issue of a protecting password if you could access

So you have to decide: either disable the account-access password, or

Take a look under the filter 'actions'.

There is an option to create another copy for folder

This option will create/place a copy of your msg in

  the filters for incoming mail.

That may do what you want done.

This isn't possible. It should be, especially given this gem:

http://www.gaznet.au.com/spam/

(The Outlook anti-spam filter, miraculously given Microsoft's love of
proprietary formats, uses a plain text file for its signal strings).

Now, if _domains_ as well as individual addresses could be added (eg
'*.com.tw'), we'd have a winner :) I think I'll turn this into a feature

Given the cookie option, maybe this wouldn't be such

Great idea, hopefully the programmers will see this

click on the Copy button underneath the list of filters. A new copy of
Bat filter will be created as the last one under Incoming. Select this
copy and drag it to or under Outgoing mail. That's all you have to do
because both for incoming and outgoing mail the string is the same,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and the Location is Recipient.

Thanks for your help on my problem. The final result was to use TB
Beta. It exports fine and dandy. BTW, AltL appears to be a hard
wrap command. Is there a soft wrap command as well?
