IMAP vs. Exchange
TheBat-users, I have been running against the Exchange server here at work with IMAP. I tried today using the Exchange protocol. It appears that TB! handles this protocol more like it handles POP than it handles IMAP. It does not synchronize older messages, only gets new and folders are POP-coloured and not IMAP-coloured. Is this correct? Could anybody explain the Exchange protocol for me (in layman's terms)? -- greeting Best regards /greeting author Peter Fjelsten /author thebat version 2.03 Beta/40 /thebat version os Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 /os Current version is 2.02.3 CE | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
IMAP maintainance center
TheBat-users, After having used the maintenance centre on my IMAP (Exchange server) account, I suddenly get 10-20 versions of some mails, marked unread. I cannot delete the extra versions and kill duplicates does not work. I cannot even kill the parent message they are all shown underneath. How do I get rid of them? Also, since this action, I cannot get new mail. It arrives and sometimes it is even shown in the unread column (unbolded) but there are no new messages in the folder. The account log does not show that any new messages have arrived. Ooh. I just got Outlook 2003 at work and found a new feature that I've always wanted but never verbalized since I didn't know just how useful it would be. It is the feature of flagging a message. Once a message is flagged, it pops up in a Follow Up folder so you can always go to that folder and follow up on the messages. Once the flag is cleared, it disappears from the Follow Up folder but remains in its native folder. Quite useful for tracking to-do's. Twould be a nice feature to incorporate into TB! This problem of not being able to view/access attachments via The Bat continues to baffle me. I don't know how many others are having/have experienced similar problems, but this is growing beyond a minor annoyance to completely frustrating and slowing my productivity. I've heard a few suggestions for fixing this problem, but they are usually not related to The Bat. I would accept that I have corrupted something on my machine, or that I installed some program that created a conflict if it weren't ONLY THE BAT HAVING THIS PROBLEM. To me, even if I *did* cause the problem to start happening, the fact that it is not repeatable with any other mail client certainly doesn't make TB look too good. What is different about TB and the way it handles attachments that it would be the only mail client having issues with different attachment types (so far: Word doc, PDF and JPEG). Hello Mark, You've got 65 messages in your Must Reply folder that are 60 days old! Well, you can't just trust the names of my folders :) In this case it doesn't necessarily mean they have not been replied. I keep most of them here to remind me about some long standing open issues. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Hello Stuart, I don't suppose you'd consider knocking up a little 'how to' document would you? Have you seen mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] on this same thread? Does that give you a hint? Anyway, I once wrote about how I manage my Must Reply folder and some others. I'll try to find it and give you a hint. -- Best regards, Miguel A. uninstalling The Bat!
Anyone know what to do next when Add/Remove Programs fails? I want to wipe my laptop clean, install 1.62, upgrade to CE, then install the latest beta. When I try to uninstall TB through Windows Add/Remove I get a popup window: AbacusBat! - Uninstall This will remove AbacausBat! Continue? When I click Yes, I get the following: AbacusBat! - Uninstall Error cleaning up AbacusBat! program directory. Uninstall aborted Anyone know what to do next? You'll probably find there is a safety net in the uninstall that says not to delete the folder if there is non-installed items in it. This means that your mail accounts, mail data, personal options etc are safe and protected by the install script. If you go to where you installed TheBat, you should see a few folders left over, and a couple of files. If you don't need them, remove them. However, for the upgrade path, you really didn't need to uninstall the previous version. It is quite safe to just install the 2.x series over the top of the 1.x series, though you should note you'll need a new registration key if you haven't already got one. All the appropriate files are upgraded by TB when it runs that way. -- Jonathan Angliss ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Current version is 2.02.3 CE | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Why something as simple and basic as an uninstall has to be so esoteric and cryptic is just bad usability. Come on... You reply indicates that an uninstall was started ( you should see a few folders left over, and a couple of files) but nothing began. I never got past those error boxes. Unfortunately, I cannot test this because I am in the process of a complete manual delete of all things Bat. I deleted all program files and mail files (made a zip backup first), then proceeded to go through the registry and look for bat entries to delete. I'm still working on that Do you know how many registry entries have bat in them? Adobe Acrobat alone consists of about 50-60 entries, not to mention .bat files, etc. I tried searching on RitLabs first but that turned up one entry. God, do I have a headache! Part of the reason I wanted a clean install was because of the corrupt folder problems I was having (messages not displaying). I know it's a longshot, but I thought a clean install might be nice.. :( I was also wondering (and would appreciate any advice) the best way to restore accounts without going through the IMAP convert to POP during the 1.62 upgrade to 2.x - and whether that's worth the hassle. I thought I might create fresh new IMAP accounts, then copy and paste the message base. Can I do that? Will that invite more problems that trying to do a Restore? Also, I could conceivably do a restore on my laptop to 1.62r and convert all accounts to POP, then upgrade. At that point, create my IMAP accounts and just copy messages from the POP folder equivalents... am i going insane...? -- Ken Green Using The Bat! v1.62r on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Current version is 2.02.3 CE | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I'm sure I'd seen that before and it was the result of the uninstaller protecting the files, but it was a long time ago. Do you know how many registry entries have bat in them? Adobe Acrobat alone consists of about 50-60 entries, not to mention .bat files, etc. I tried searching on RitLabs first but that turned up one entry. The only ones you should worry about is the branch: \HKLM\Software\RIT Or it might be \HKCM\Software\RIT The rest of the registry keys that TB might alter can usually be reset by opening Outlook. God, do I have a headache! Know the feeling ;) What about installing 2.x over 2.x? Should be just fine. I upgrade through the beta cycles just fine. I know it's a longshot, but I thought a clean install might be nice.. :( I originally had an issue with an imap setting on one of my accounts that I couldn't get unstuck, and ended up reinstalling... so sometimes it is worth it. I thought I might create fresh new IMAP accounts, then copy and paste the message base. Can I do that? Will that invite more problems that trying to do a Restore? Not entirely sure. It seems the IMAP files are created with random names, so you might have to do some playing to get this to work. Also, I could conceivably do a restore on my laptop to 1.62r and convert all accounts to POP, then upgrade. At that point, create my IMAP accounts and just copy messages from the POP folder equivalents... am i going insane...? No, just a little batty ;) IMAP is a server side storage. Which means you shouldn't have to copy anything from your local computer into an IMAP account. Providing the messages have been left on the server by the old IMAP implementation, it should just refetch them correctly.
