Most of my usage with The Bat! has been with GPG and it works well.
There are a few things that could be improved upon but encryption
support has continually improved.

Yes, you can add as many account as you need. Currently I have 5
different e-mail relays configured. For those with Gmail accounts,
both inlined and PGP/MIME work when used in conjunction with the
recent version of FreePOPs.

Note: This moderator's interjection is a note to all readers and not
just to the person being replied to, even if their post may have
instigated this reply. Please don't feel singled out Jack.

  )<)))'>

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

To find out why these MOD messages are posted to the list instead of
private mail, please read the welcome message you received when you

Thank you.

A> I want to extract the item or items bought and send out an email that

Create an appropriate filter,
the filter creates a new message,
the new message uses a template that starts with this regexp:

%SetPattRegExp='(?is)(.*?)Name:\s(.*?)\n(.*?)E-mail:\s(.*?)\n(.*?)\*\*\*\sITEMS\sORDERED\s\*\*\*\n(.*?)POSTAGE\sOPTION(.*?)\n'%-
%RegExpBlindMatch='%Text'%-
%_Name="%SubPatt='2'"%-
%_Email="%SubPatt='4'"%-
%_Order="%SubPatt='6'"%-

Where you want to insert the name in your message, you use %_Name,
like in:
Hello %_Name,

Where you'd like to insert the address, you use %_Email, like:
%To='"%_Name" <%_Email>'%-

Where you'd like to insert the ordered items, you insert %_Order in
your template. As easy as that.

I guess you'll have a solution from somebody else by the time you read
my message. My phone line is dead and those telco guys don't won't to
send a maintenance guy in the middle of the night. :-(

You are correct in that GPGrelay requires GPG and runs as a relay. Its
been quite awhile since I converted from PGP to GPG and honestly, I
haven't missed PGP.

One thing I appreciate about GPGrelay is that both the mail in my Sent
folder and any inbound mail are decrypted. This makes text searches
possible, and eliminates the worry about keeping old expired or
revoked keys in my keyring.

Its also quite convenient having a GPG manager. No matter which mail

I never understood why RIT removed this feature. While I can
appreciate that some people need to keep things encrypted, many of us
have our own method of securing the data. Not giving the client a
choice didn't seem prudent. In my case, it drove me to seek a 3rd

Hello Dave,

Thursday, October 7, 2004, 8:53:29 AM, you wrote:

DT> Hi there, how do I configure the filter in version 3?

You have to unarchive it and it's support files. I keep mine in a
folder called (big surprise) 'bayesit' that is in the 'TheBat' program
tree.

Next you start TB and go to Option, Prefernces and select Plugins at
the bottom of the list.

Click Add and then point it at the 'bayesit' folder and select the
'bayesit.tbp'

That will get things started. Next you have to start showing it what
is good email (i.e. 'ham') and what is spam (that is train it). You
can do that in several different ways. You can just start using TB as
before. Without anything to go on it *should* treat everything as
ham. You then tell it what is spam. Eventually it will start to
figure things out.

If you have saves a lot of spam and ham samples, you can train it on
those saved letters. That will speed up the training process.

That should get you started. Ask if you have any other questions.
Someone will chime in

LOL.

Confusing an enemy is one of the things every decent samurai has to get
mastered, at least to the certain level.

That's the reason why my katana looks as a tofu hammer. Silly and
harmless.

Expect even more morphing...

OK; it definitely got astray (-; and I recon would be discerning in the

Just a partial possible help on my side: try RegexCoach. The best helper

I actually had this happen to me with V2 with e-mails being left in my
inbox. When I did a manual re-filter it would be filtered.

This was very weird because I get a lot of mails and if all but one get
filtered what is causing the sporadic mis? My best quess was that it had to
do with the spam filtering, since I changed to V3 and Bayes Filter I have
not see them anymore.

You could try contacting the sender and asking them to stop flooding
the world with duplicate junk emails. That would work (not).

Seriously, you need to check the routing headers. If they are
completely identical then come back and we can discuss why TB might be
downloading them twice.

If they differ then they are a sad fact of spam - that the address
lists the spammers use contain duplicates and that you will get
multiple copies of their exquisitely informational missives.

I am not for sure if you mean just for High Priority messages, but
mine shows up just fine. I have mine set to:

1. Display MailTickler (TM) - Automatically

It's not because we're talking about S/MIME, not PGP. So this is the
correct forum. S/MIME is an integral function in The Bat, completely
self-contained.

You have to "View INVALID certificate", click the "View" button, click
to the "Certification path" tab, select Henk's authority certificate
there and click the "Add to trusted" button.

Once you have done that, reselect Henk's message (by selecting a
different message and then coming back) to re-validate the certificate
and it should have changed to a green tick. And do the same for mine.

You could then remove the entries from the Trusted Root CA Address
Book folder if you don't wish to continue trusting us ;-).

I wrote a software sometime, it is called BackupTheBat. Freeware.
See www.thebat.hu/index_e.html :

Features

automatically exporting selected The Bat! account/folder structures
using given filename templates in Unix mailbox format (one file per
folder)

automatically exporting selected The Bat! account/folder structures
using given filename templates in RFC-822 .msg format (one file per
mail). In this mode the given account/folder structure is recreated as
subdirectory system in the target directory.

enable the user to read his/her mails with any text editor in the
absence of The Bat!

enable to make backups with filenames referring of the content/source
of the mails (i.e. account, folder, sender, subject, date etc.
property of the exported mail.)

---

So, if I were you, I would export the mails with BackupTheBat (BTB) from
Inbox as MSG, using e.g. this BTB template:
%MD_%MSE_%MA_%MSU.msg
or whatever you want.

When it is complete, in the directory where the mails exported I would
do this:
list *.msg > 1.txt
where 1.txt contains what you want.

--
An other possibility:
-make a new folder
-copy every mails from Inbox there
-make a new filter, set it first in the row for Inbox, DO NOT process
the mail with further filters, if the sender has @ in his email,
export the mail to X.txt file. Append. Template: create the template
that will be printed later.

-

Maybe this second possibility is easier.

Surely .. as it stands, I highlight the lot and delete

Yes .. 'empty folder' ... if it worked like that, except

It would be a convenience more than a necessity, but still

Writing a simple filter that writes to an external
file, as Dan suggested, is a good approach if you do
this often.

Otherwise, you can simply copy and paste to your
favorite editor. Mark you messages (cntl-a for all)
and copy with cntl-ins.

The format of clipboard may surprise you, but most
important info is there:

   msgid
   to
   from
   folder
   subject
   date/time
   size
   uid?

A keyboard shortcut or menu item "Go to parent" should be in the wish

I don't. In fact, I get a lot of requests to update my contact details

Filters - anyone know when they'll be sorted?

2004-10-07 Thread admin
Can anyone in the know gie me an indication of when the filters not
working will be sorted?

I am getting heartily fed up with manually operating all the complex
filters I have set up on behalf of clients.

I suspect, as usual, I am a lone voice in the wilderness, but this
really, surely, should be a priority and not have to wait for others
things to be tacked on as well.

When I tried to generate a X.509 certificate I was using v3.01 RC3. So maybe
it is not necessary to post a bug report but just wait for the next release?

Whilst I can see the use of that it's not exactly what I want. In
another programme I have you can press "U" and it takes you to the
original message to which the one you are reading is the reply. I know
that quoting helps a lot but, in long threads, I find it useful to
follow a few messages at the heart of the thread whilst missing out all
the interim comments.

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer. I am referring to all my folders
which are all sorted (in my case) by creation time and reference.

ASK> [the "follow previous" and "follow next" entries in the "Navigation"

Unfortunately that would not be precise enough anyway because it's not
the next or previous message I want to view but the original to which
this one is the reply. Maybe one day as there are so many other options
available with message viewing ;-)
