Can the message box containing all the folders and
messages be enlarged for more comfortable reading
for old eyes? I have enlarged the font and bolded
it within the messages, but I would be happier
with increased font size in the mailbox itself.

Thanks in advance for your help. Elaine

One problem folder

2009-02-24 Thread ETM

I regularly compress and purge, but all of a
sudden today, TB! freezes when working with one
folder. I used maintenance to compress/purge about
355 folders with no problems. I have now tried to
complete compressing this one folder and it locks
up the computer every time. I have even tried in
safe mode, no luck.

I also used a fresh download and repaired TB!

Still no joy.

Is there a way to get that folder purged and
compressed?

Yes, that worked, the drive is wonderful, I plan
to clone the laptop (220GB) to a smaller external,
then put that aside for insurance, and work with
the 1GB as an extension of the laptop. I bought
direct from Seagate, less than $200US, shipping
free in US, five year warranty. The warranty was
better than other warranties available, the reason
I bought Seagate.

   The following should work:

If you open Windows Explorer, and navigate to your TB! installation
directory, you'll find a directory called 'Mail' (unless you've moved
   it to another location).

Within this directory are other directories. Each of these denote an
account or a common folder. The account folders have the names of
your accounts so they're easily noticed.

Go Back to TB! and create a new account or accounts for the mail
folders you wish to be able to use in TB!.

Close TB! and then go back to explorer.

Copy the folders containing the mail you wish to use to the account
directory for the account you just created.

   Restart TB!.

If the folders have not appeared (I doubt they would), hit
Shift-CTRL-Alt-L. This will make TB! search for lost folders.

S> I have looked at Synchronistaion - but that doesn't work because the
S> actual installation files of the old mail have been removed.

Yes. This option synchronises one TB! installation with another so
that the target installation is updated to have all mail/accounts/
template/address book information etc as the source installation.

S> I have looked at Restore - but that doesn't work because I didn't

That restores a TB! installation that used TB!'s backup utility to
   create a backup of.

Everyone I know is running Apple primarily and
using the Windows for those programs that
absolutely will not transfer but that they
absolutely want. Many of the people are using
machinery (knitting and sewing especially come to
mind) patterns that won't work anywhere but on
Windows, some are working with employers and must
interact via Windows programming, some certainly
are simply gamers and Windows works better in that
area than does a Mac.

I bought a Mac to get away from DRM. But I have
NO doubt that I am going to run into hard-nosed
attitudes about DRM on Apple as much as on
Windows. And I suspect Job is no easier to like
than is Gates .

As everyone will tell you on every single list
supporting Mac/Apple, the Mac's are safer .

Mary, most Macs are now intel ready, and the new

I do use a MacBook and run Parallels/Windows XP on
the intel ready laptop. While not my preference,
I don't intend to give up TheBat! and sincerely
hope TheBat! eventually will be made available for
use on a Mac. Life is easier running the PC for
mail and the MacBook as intended.

Using an export to Unix you can import the unix
mail into AppleMail if you decide to go that
route. I have decided to use AppleMail only as a
backup mail program and removed the mail I had
transferred there. AppleMail now handles all my
pop mail from yahoo and GMail and I am temporarily
using dot/mac/com but probably will drop that when
it is time to renew.

Good luck with your Mac, most enjoy them a lot, I
never was all that angry with Gates, but I think I
am tired of the digital rights paranoia that seems
to invade all current internet purchases. Apple
has not escaped being neurotic about digital
rights and I will soon find out just how it works
there, I just bought the iPod and plan to move
audible books from Windows to Apple, bet I will
run into a few hitches along the way as both OS's
try to cling to their "rights", it will also be
interesting to see how videos/TV shows work on
iPod.

I am on a lot of mailing lists. GMail posts are

though all other list mail reaches the poster. The

I don't believe you can alter the way those

precisely to avoid inline surprises. I left OE
for TB! precisely to avoid surprises in my mail

Wish those servers treated me as well. Every

Hi Curtis,

Yes, I have the MacBook, 1GB memory, 100GB drive.
It should perform fine. I have seen people
suggest on some forums that Parallels is slow. I
suspect that may be what I am running into and
don't realize what is displeasing me, I think it's
a bit clunky and clumsy. Boot Camp does a great
job. It's just the unfortunate business of
rebooting. However, to give the Mac credit, it
doesn't take all the shenanigans coming up and
shutting down that we are familiar with with
Windows.

This is my first Mac. I think they've convinced
me. As long as I could move that mail, too much
time and energy expended there on genealogy
research and associated mailing lists, I knew I
would be happy. Once that was accomplished most
everything else was bound to fall into place.

I will be leaving some programming I enjoy, and a
lot of it has been freeware. But with the reboot,
I am not excluded from continuing to work with the
programs while using the Apple to discover what's
out there. I gave Windows almost half of the
100GB. As I move more and more toward Apple, I
can downsize the Windows partition and increase
the Mac side.

I think the intel Macs are still evolving and I
hope I didn't buy too early. I usually don't
replace computers until I have wrung about three
years of hard duty out of them. Some of the
things I am doing, I suspect, will be built in
before those three years go by. I think that Boot
Camp might be destined for the next Mac OS.

The current issue of MacWorld has BootCamp
mentioned on cover, but I haven't yet taken a lot
at the article. You might want to stop by a
newstand and take a look.

TB! is working well with the MacBook, Boot Camp
and Windows. For those interested, I have not had
as much luck with Parallels, but I do plan to keep
working with that programming.

Thank you all very much also for the help here and
on the forwarding/filtering of individual

the two options ticked (mime and headers) in the

Re: Auto forwarding

One digest has automatically forwarded and
filtered to its folder. The sent copy has
filtered to the recipient's folder and would seem
to indicate that ticking the message headers and
use mime is needed to forward the digests as
formatted.

I will wait for confirmation from the receiver,
but I think the filed sent copy is proof of the
pudding.

Many thanks here!

BTW, I still haven't had the guts to move my mail.

Earlier before signing off for more storms (we
have about 100,000 without power again), I ticked
include message headers and use mime, never
necessary before, I will watch to see if it now
works. Previously as mail downloaded, it
automatically forwarded the digest formatted with
separate message attachments, and then filtered
the same digest to its proper folder. That is what
I seek. If the format changes to a continuous
message format I will not be terribly unhappy, as
long as the content is all there.

Thanks, Mary.

2006-07-02 Thread ETM
I have used auto forwarding of digests formatted
with individual messaging as attachments. It
always worked perfectly. That is, until the
recent TB! update. Now it strips the attachments
and sends the useless digest transmittal page. How
can I correct this. Should I return to the former
version of TB!? I am currently using 3.80.06.

I am using 2.02.3 CE personal edition and have

I now understand that versions 2x may have an
RFC-822 Mail Header Spoofing Weakness, so I am

I am very satisfied with all features of version
2.02.3 CE. I do not want to be unable to revert
to this version if I do not like the current
version and because I have had luck with Christmas
editions I have given thought to going for v3.64.

How do I try the new version and still maintain an
escape hatch to return to 2.02.3 if that's where I
prefer to stay (spoofing weakness and all)?

Thanks, Roelof,

I am researching family (maybe one day I'll find a

deliberately self-created "mail" containing
research notes. I like being able to search from

my research file .

Thanks for helping here. Now, of course, final

Marck,

I think you are wonderful, I love TheBat!, but I took one
look at what you sent me and my eyes crossed. I belong to
approximately 40 genealogy-related mailing lists, all top
posters, all heavy traffic. I have been here a long time, I
try to read the posts that might involve me, I try very hard
to never ask a question (which reminds me I owe Allie a
thank you for help on IMAP and AOL -- Allie, AOL isn't worth
the trouble ), and I do occasionally answer off list
if I think I have something worthwhile to say.

I am going to go sit and read what I think I need and stop
worrying about posting here because it is giving me gray
hair and at 70 I don't need any more.

My adieu, I hope is a cut mark (and while I do this, why
can't a cut mark be put into the beginning area of the
list's tagline so that always would be dropped in any reply
in any case whether the poster used one or not?)

Marck, would you please give me a sample cut mark (template?
macro?) for my signature for use only when replying to this
list since all my other mailing lists use top posting and
therefore a cut mark cannot be used since it removes the
post being replied to. Do I need to call on a signature

it is just natural to sign off with two returns and Elaine.
That sign off is manually typed (not a template) in all my
emails and I will omit it here.

Thanks for answering, Peter. I was able to selectively
choose the account (which I am shutting down) so the restore
feature was used selectively for that account. I'm not sure
if I could have only gone for one folder but I have
accomplished what I wanted, recovered the folder I was
after, now I have to go about deleting what already was
deleted or moved on that soon to be gone account .

Selective restore

2003-10-18 Thread ETM
At some point during a clean up and move of mail from one
account to another, I have managed to dump the contents of a
folder. It's not the end of the world, but I would like to
have that mail folder if possible. Is there a way to do a
selective restore, just going for that one folder in the
backup?

It's happening in the mail program, Mary, not after the
send, or at least that's my take on it. It's in my sent
folder with those miserable in it. And it remains
inconsistent. I use TB! to mail via yahoo, currently going
out via cable, but it has been tested via dialup. However,
none of this occurred until just recently (as in version 2?)
and it appears to occur before sending though not noticeable
to me as I delete the material in the yet unsent email.

I am mentally ticking off things I could not give up.
Redirect, unbroken urls, fairly consistent posts as
formatted and sent from my mail program, all very important
to assisting newbies to genealogy and computers. But the
hassles with HTML and now this is making some other options
attractive. It's a darn good thing I like those three BAT
functions VERY much because someone who turn 68 in five days
has far better things to do with the days left in her life
than mess around with misbehaving mail programs.

No, protection against trojans is only available through
specific trojan (remover) programs. I use BOClean (as do
many others here) and I also have used TDS3 which I also can
recommend. To my knowledge there are no free trojan remover
programs. They all cost money. They run all the time when
installed on a computer. BOClean caught one attempt on my
system and removed it last night. Our AV programs do
nothing and usually know nothing nor are programmed to do
anything with trojans. I do notice that my Norton Firewall
makes an effort to keep trojans out. One slipped through
last night, most likely my fault, and was cleaned and
removed.

Allie, it's on my copies of sent mail, I never noticed it
until I saw the posts to the mailing lists and returned to
check the sent versions. I do not recall it being there
while editing/removing the extraneous from the bottom posts.
Since it's on sent mail, I have to assume it is a problem in
version 2. I also cannot make the accounts hold the order of
the folders (alphabetical). They keep jumping back to what I
think may be the order of creation. I'm going batty with
these recent aggravations.

Thanks for stepping in here.

Your wish is my command on this list.

THIS mess never happened before, and it has ONLY happened
since I upgraded to 2 and it has happened on at least one
mailing list, I haven't checked others (ALL my mailing lists
save this one are genealogy-related and ALL use top posting
so this type of thing will OCCUR a LOT if I insist on using
this version IF that is the reason for the problem) and was
on ALL distributed subscribers' mail (so is not a single
fluke), and it has happened in private email to others.

If this is coming from some mess in version 2, I'd like to
know how to drop back from what I just paid for, because it
may not be working right for me. If you all feel it is NOT
happening because I am using version 2, why do you think it
has suddenly started happening? I've been using TB! since
the Fall of 2001 and this has NEVER occurred before.

I believe the suggestion was the server might accept TB!
mail when "something" freezes over. In the meantime they
feel quite self righteous in refusing a "spammer's mail
program". It's pathetic to be stuck between a rock and a
hard place because of all-around arrogant ignorance and not
a hint of budging though their subscriber has done a
yeoman's job of refuting their claims. I remain totally
frustrated and worry that this is just the tip of the
iceberg as more and more servers attempt to clamp down on
spam.

I am using K9 which works fine for spam, so while xray
sounds good, I think it is more than I want to handle on top
of the K9 filtering, but I would be very interested in
totally removing my header mailer identification. While I
realize TheBat! might enjoy it being there, it isn't working
in my favor when some servers are refusing TB! mail. Does
anyone know if there are options within TB! to get rid of
that header line? I did some cursory checking and the
ability to delete it appears disabled. I am hoping I
haven't found all areas for editing headers and that the
option to do so is available.
