Are you sure about that? If memory serves, when I was looking at the
licensing info on an educational copy of some MS software the other
day, you were only legally authorized to use the educational version
AS LONG AS YOU WERE A HALF-TIME OR MORE STUDENT, or if you were
employed FULL TIME AS AN EDUCATOR. Meaning, if neither applied, you
were illegally using the software.

remember, if you use illegal software, you can go to jail in the USA.

Also, are you absolutely certain that the educational version of the
MS Office suite doesn't mark documents produced with them of the fact
that they are "educational" versions? I'd hazard to guess that they
do, even if it's not in as obvious of a place as the X-* headers of an
e-mail message.

That being said, I'd personally prefer if there were an option in TB
to turn off all of the client-generated X- headers. But that's just
me.

Only does "save draft?"

2002-11-19 Thread Geordon VanTassle
Hello ,

I've been fighting with The Bat! for a couple of months, now, to get
the "send now" button to work. IT worked FINE when I was using the
"demo" version. But, ever since I paid for the license, I can't get
either the "send letter" or "put in outbox" buttons to work. The
only one that works is "save draft" and I have to manually go into
the outbox and change the status from "Draft" in order for the
  bloody thing to send.

I've tried to re-install the program, and it still does the same
  thing. I'm using 1.61

  Any suggestions?

Why do outbound messages hang in the outbox?

2002-06-23 Thread Geordon VanTassle

Hello The Bat user list,

I have recently moved my installation to a Windows 2000 computer,
with TB as a secondary MUA (my personal one, rather than the "work"
one) and have discovered something odd:

When I write a message and hit "send" the message (I would think)
should move over to the outbox and transmit at the next interval.
But, it doesn't. It seems to get "parked" in the outbox, and has to
manually be changed over to actually send out.

Any idea why this might happen, or what I can do to fix it?

You might want to wander over to the [EMAIL PROTECTED]

well for you. You might also want to check out http://www.pgpi.org

Now, to answer this part of the question: PGP was originally written
by a private US citizen, and the source code of the original version
was printed into a book and sold to the public, as well as being
downloadable. Therefore, I am personally confident that it was NOT
originally written by the gov't, and they don't have "master" or
"skeleton" keys.

That's just me, though. Others might have different views.

If it were possible for the plugin to use the "Secure viewer" function

Then, I went back to the folder that the cyphertext was sitting in
and saw a bunch of copies of the clear-text mail right there.
Apparently, The Bat! dumps a "new" message, in clear, to the
location from which it was decrypted. Interesting! Is there
somewhere in the HELP that this behavior is documented?

  Thanks

I can answer this one! Just put the appropriate DLL for your chosen
PGP version into the directory where your TB! executable lives. That,
and make sure that you choose the version in the OpenPGP properties
panel.

Hope this helps!

So, if I understand you right, by including %INSERTPGPKEY='0xB04AF414'

it should include the public key associated with it. IS there some

MR> Hello Geordon,

MR> Sometimes, it's the most simple and obvious things we miss when we try

Heh, I spent 4 years on first-line phone tech support for several
corporations. :) I've probably seen just about everything. At least
I didn't break off my cup holder!

MR> 1) If, while you were in your Sorting Office setting up the filter
MR>rule, are you sure the focus was on "Incoming" when you hit the
MR>"new" rule button? If the focus was on "Outgoing", your *incoming*
MR>rule is sitting in your outgoing rules doing nothing.

Checked: Incoming is where the filter is sitting.

MR> 2) Rules are acted upon in order (top to bottom). Could there be any

There's only one filter on that account: the one that I'm trying to
get to work, with everyone's help.

MR> 3) While it's probably not necessary to have the recipient address as

Hadn't thought of that. I had set it up as an AND filter. I took out

In the filter that I set up, these are the criteria:

according to the instructions, but nothing goes out when I send a mail
to that account with the parameters that I set. I.e. subject line
matches what I put in the filter, and I set the "auto-respond" active,
but nothing sends.

Anything more I need to tell you? What other settings should I check?

Thanks

PGP auto-send setup question

Hello The,

I seem to be having some issues trying to set up a PGP auto-send. I
have followed Melissa Reese's "howto" at
 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PGP-Basics/files/TB%20%26%20PGP/MailtoInstructions.txt
but something seems to be screwed up. I'm using:

 I'm using The Bat! Version 1.53d under Windows 98 4.10 Build 1998

 Can anyone offer suggestions?

   Thanks

Where can I find out what all of those options are supposed to do?

Oddity when replying.

2002-01-16 Thread Geordon VanTassle

Hello list,

I'm trying to replay to a long e-mail and cut parts out, but when I
hilight and hit DEL or BACKSPACE, it only deletes a couple of
characters, rather than the whole selection. I can CTRL-X it gone,
  though.

Any ideas on what I can check to figure out why this is happening?

  Thanks

Hello TBUDL,

I'm wondering what you all think of OpenPGP vs. S/MIME. What is
the

Intentional, as far as I can tell: No auto-executing of anything! YAY!

Gee, all I have to do is double-click on the attached HTML document
and it opens my browser. You might want to give that a try! Easy to
prevent auto-infection that way. You have to voluntarily open the
attachment!

Benefits of registration?

2002-01-11 Thread Geordon VanTassle

Hello TBUDL,

Just out of curiosity, what are the "features available only for
registered users" that are mentioned on the registration page?

Also, is the boxed-set worth paying for? I mean, is the book that
is included in it worth having? IF so, why?

I'm GONNA register, I just have to decide which way to do it.

Match multiple conditions?

2002-01-08 Thread Geordon VanTassle

Hello The Bat list,

Is there a way to get a message that matches multiple criteria to be
dumped into multiple folders? For example:

I send a message to two different mailing lists, which I have filters
set up to sort into different folders. The message that I sent comes
back (one copy from each list), but two copies end up in the folder
for the first matching rule.

IS there a way that I can get these messages to filter into different
folders?
