GMX Global Message Exchange AG, eine 100% Tochter der cubenet AG, is
not an ISP Internet Service provider. Thanks.

I couldn't find a limit on their mail server yet.

While we're at it GMX lists these providers that are known to FILTER
port 25, meaning you *cannot* use external SMTP servers:

CityWeb (cww.de / cityweb.de)
GermanyNet (germany.net, germanynet.de)
Primus-Online (msn.de), vormals Metronet (metronet.de)
diverse Universitäten und Hochschulen (some Universitys and FHs)

No, my ISP server has a specific setup (RADIUS limiting you to 100
mails a day, 1000 mails a month, default SMTP server even REWRITES the
From:-Line you where sending, if you dont like this, you have to sign
a contract that lets you use a special smtprelay!)

Nevertheless, all bigger ISPs (UUnet, Arcor Germany, Ecore just to
name a few) have the same limit on recipients.

I don't agree on this one, sorry. The question was to add a "feature"
to TB. Personally I *don't* want to see TB supporting this! Remember
when mails from Pegasus Mail were DELETED because some people thought
it was a SPAMMER tool? Hey, they just killed everything that had a
X-Mailer of Pegasus! Dave Harris had to release a version w/o
X-Mailer. IMHO it is perfectly on-topic, I'm im mistaken a

What I meant was that if you strip out the sig (not the PGP one) and

Normally, the box pops up when you are about to SIGN a message,
letting you choose the private key pair you want to use. Encrypt is
always to the key that matches a mail address in the header. PGP will
use a key per mail address. If there's trouble, like no key for an
address, then you will get a window letting you choose another key.

Perhaps always encrypt to default key is an option for you, swapping
the keys (if your keyring is big, it ain't!)?

This is your ticket for the ORBS/MAPS/RBL/etc. Is this your SMTP
server? Else I'm going to report it to the head of abuse dep in our
NOC.

To the original question. When you're connected to the internet you've
got an IP that is unique. It's assigned to a provider (query the ARIN,
APNIC, RIPE etc. for it). You can at 99,9% use the SMTP of this
provider w/o things like POP-before-SMTP or SMTP AUTH even if your
company/university doesnt want you to do it. If you have a sample
Internet IP address (not RFC1918-hosts!) then simply (under DOS) enter
"nslookup ". this will give you the reverse name. Then you dig
it into the MX seeker (nslookup, then querytype=MX) and it tells you
your SMTP server :) If this sounds too complicated, feel free to drop
me an offlist eMail and I'll gladly try to helpy you to find the SMTP.

While PGP is the de-fecto standard, there is no "official" (read

I owe you a beer ;) At first I didn't realize that you aren't located
in Germany. I was talking with my own experience in mind, which is the
100% digital phone network in Europe. As you can get ISDN in every
(!!) lost corner around here, thus having digital lines for POTS as
well, you will always at least get 33,6kbps, which equals 4,2kb w/o
compression.

To be honest I cannot really believe you only get 1kb (this would be a
connect at *less* than 9600bps, which is what you get here when you're
surfing with your GSM mobile)!

> Granted. But no reason to unnecessary blow up a message to 300% of
> it's original size with a 4K "signature".

While I really don't want to insult you, what do you consider "normal"
mail size? Don't forget 'bout the headers, too. Mail with 1k (normal
cluster size) is not what I call normal. 4-6k, even 10k seems normal
to me... Now I don't really sense the difference, I admit, as I have
at home dualchannel ISDN flat and at work a T1...

What?! *Priviledged*? I know that in roughly 70% of countries you have
somewhat digital access to the phone network (yes, as well so called
third world countries like in south america and so on!). Thomas seems
to connect at *9.600bps*! This is what "we" get over a GSM mobile. Now

Hey Thomas, RealityCheck™ ! With a 56k, on *average* (digital) phone
lines you get, varying with the distance to the VST, at least 33,6k,
mostly between 42-50kbps!

You're using a modem. Modems feature compression that works quite
nice. eMails are text. Text can be compressed at very high rates.

Oh come on! What do you use? ISDN? In times of flatrates at 80 DM, I
can only laugh at discussions 'bout "your .sig is longer than 4 lines"
and "2k vs 6k". Even if you're using a modem, it supports compression,
so you *wont* notice the difference between 2k and 6k. Really :) (Now
you may if GMX starts throttling again, but this is not in your
control and then it doesn't matter if the message is 2k or 6k or 15k
btw 'caus you won't get anything out of the d***ed POP3 server...)

That's the point I need. *Which* registry keys do I need to export and
then reimport on the other machine, knowing that the first one runs
Windows 2000 (=NT5) and the second one Millenium (based on 9x

Using TB on 2 systems: database?

2000-07-20 Thread Johannes M. Posel

Hi there masters of wisdom™ :)

I've got a question. I have 2 computers, a home one and a laptop from
my job. I want to be able to use TB on both, as I will be off home for
a longer time but need to access all my mail (I have 12 accounts). The
company normally uses a mail program that doesnt need any registry
keys, so you just copy the program folder and subfolders on a Zip or
Jaz and copy it back (or work from there). Now TB requires Registry
settings to work on the other computer.

My question: What are the steps needed to achieve to be able to move
TB to the laptop and after the outside traveling done back? IOW what
registry keys to export, what to copy, what possible problems to be
careful of/forewarned of.

a BIG THANKS to any help tip! BTW the home systems uses Windows2000
(Win5.00.2195) while the laptop uses WinMillenium(Win 4.90.3000)

Now sure, GMX cannot provide a shell for every of it's customers, but
if you need encrypted transmission of your eMails from your POP3 box
to your client, you'd also consider a SSH tunnel. You've got the
choice between both, and personally I prefer SSH with port forwarding
