Printing html has always been a problem AFAIAC, if the html page has any
photo's, thebat locks up for several minutes and then says out of memory. Has
done this for several versions. Only about 4 photo's in latest and the
largest one is 59K. System has 2G of memory. I have to forward the
messages to another address and get it with Thunderbird to print it. I
normally view only in plain text but my wife has a friend who thinks
red-green-blue text and pictures is the way to go. Oh, those LookOut users!
When she gets one like that and I switch to the HTML tab and tell it to print,
and if there are pictures imbedded, it goes castors up. My viewer setting is
Text and HTML.

Perhaps, like most of my "bugs", it is an error between the headphones and
someone will straighten me out.

I am trying to use SSL for my email. Because my provider's certificate does
not match my email address (I don't have my own certificate), thebat will not

The first 2 filters in the account are:

(header contains, Action: move) X-Text-Classification: lou

Certainly not complex. Most of the time, it works.

When it fails no action is taken, it stays in the account folder. Re-filtering
will always cause the correct action. There does not seem to be a pattern,
although it seems to fail more often if the account folder is open when the

I am one of those who do not like html, so I just tell the viewer to do text.
Other than the spammers who tell me I should get a better reader, I get along
pretty well. Except for some email that has headers that force black on white.
They always seem to contain something like:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
or
Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8

Is there some way to over ride this (to my choice of colors/font) in TheBat?

At the risk of sounding argumentative, which is not my intent:

Any antispam program, plug in or not, has to sit in front of the
email, before the mail client decides where to filter it. Popfile is easy to
train and here it is running in the neighborhood of 99.5% accuracy. I have
magnets set for much of the legit mail which makes it much easier on popfile.
I don't bother to check the spam filtered messages for most of my mailboxes,
only the business ones and then only occaisonally.

I have never tried BayesIt, but will have to do so. Maybe I can get it up to
100%... Being a plug in makes it easier to install and set up, but does not,
in itself, affect accuracy. My take is to try them all and then choose.

I would think that, if you do options/virus protection and see the

Does Frank process all mail for all users and then pass to the
workstations? That is, is it a mail server? If a workstation, running
TB, pulls the mail from a POP server on the internet, then it should
do its own AV. If it only pulls mail from Frank (which has already run
an AV email scanner), then it doesn't need to do more AV scanning.

We use a mail server (Mdaemon) on a server that processes everyone's
email from our ISP but choose to let all workstations do their own AV,
using an enterprise AV program. We also use a filter on the ISP's
system that blocks all executable attachments and that has eliminated
almost all viruses. This particular network does not have any
workstations with TB :-(

That would be my choice. On one NT network I care for, I use a
"maintenance" partiton to do backups. In that case I use primary
partitions for both systems. I have since decided that it is easier to
just install the maintenance OS in a logical drive and make a boot
diskette in case the primary partition is corrupted. Lots of ways to
do the same things, I beleive that my way is "a" way, not "the" way.
As someone else pointed out, you can use Linux to control the boot
process as well.
I am hoping to convert from multi boot systems to using VMWare. Nothing like
running XP and Liunux as guest OS's under 2K...Great combo for
debugging software. I am about done with my trial version, have to
find the money to buy the thing.

Yes, extended partitions are supported.

GS> If yes, will the drive always be drive "D"?

It all depends... on stuff like which partitions are primary versus
logical, on the extended. Example: you have 2 drives and each has one
primary and one extended. The first drive's primary will be C and the
second drive's primary will be D., etc. If you have SCSI, the letters
may be influenced by SCSI ID The good news is that you can
override letter assignments in Disk Administrator.

GS> 2) Can you create a multi-boot system with WinXP? I probably should ask
GS>this question to V-Communications who sells System Commander, but
GS>maybe someone here already knows the answer.

Yes, for Windows OS's. No matter where you install NT, the basic files are installed on
"C:" along with a file named boot.ini. Boot.ini will control multi
boot. SysCmdr is not really needed unless you want to boot Linux, etc.
or want to use multiple primary partitions, hiding the unused ones. I
use SysCmdr to dual boot Linux/Windows, but allow boot.ini to control
which flavor of Windows. SysCmdr will do it all if you want it to.

GS> 3) If #1 & #2 are yes, then I should be able to install TB onto the

Yes, but are you confusing logical versus extended partitions? An
extended partition does not get a letter at all. It houses logical
partitions that do get drive letters. Most of the time, people make
one primary partition and one extended partition that contains
multiple logical partitons.

GS> With my present configuration when it is necessary to restore individual

This should work, but NT (XP is a flavor of NT) handles drive letters
somewhat differently than W9X. After the initialization, made during install,
letters are assigned (at each boot up) according to
entries in the Registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
combined with "signatures" placed in the boot sector of each partition
(logical and primary). This can get a little muddled up if you swap
drives around. You will probably be OK if you make sure that the slave
drive has drive letters higher than all the partitions on the
master drive. we have done a lot of backup/restore using plugable
drives without problems. The registry entries remain even if the drive
is removed from the system. It will also handle another drive being
plugged in. Where it can get real confused is when you swap drives
with primary partitions. W2K was easy to confuse, I haven't worked
with XP enough to see if they have changed it.
