It depends on your needs. If you want mails for the same subject
sorted together make a folder for it and one filter for incoming and
one for outgoing mail to put all mails for this subject into that
 folder.

Example: The Bat! Mailinglists. To archive *every* mail
concerning TB! ML's make a folder TB! and filter all TB! ML
mails into it.

I for my part delete most mails I send after a few days automatically
by setting the Sent Mail folder to delete mails after 2 days.

I won't send you a PNG of my setup through the list for obvious
reasons but if you think it would help you I can send it off-list.

Another thing, It is not difficult to create sub-folders, but I do not
recommend it for the System folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Mail and
 Trash).

Why not? I've made sub-folders in the Sent Mail folder for the
addresses I use regularly. The rest just remains in the main SM folder
(I could of course also put them in a sub-folder 'miscellaneous'). I
have at the moment 2250 messages in my SM folder, with 31 sub-folders,
so that my sent messages are now neatly ordered. With this structure I
can still easily search all my sent messages.

I've also made sub-folders in my Trash folder, while I keep all
messages for several reasons. If there are too many messages in it, I
move the content to a special trash account (with sub-folders) on
another disk.

Do you also have corresponding subfolders in your Inbox?

No, while the Inbox is a dynamic folder, just like the Outbox - it's
meant to be emptied (I never succeed completely, I'm always keeping a
few dozen messages while I may want to reread them or to reply to
them...).

But the subfolders in my SM folder do have corresponding folders in
the main account. For example, I have the folders tbudl and
sent/tbudl.

PS I've also made sub-folders in my Trash folder,

Certainly, different people have different ways of working. ;-)

One of the reasons is that I get messages in several different
languages, and I put them in different subfolders in the Trash folder,
while I may use them as a database for looking up certain expressions
in another language. Of course you can use Google for that, but
sometimes an off-line database can also be useful. Another reason is
that I sometimes calculate some statistics of the messages of a
certain list (and then I need all the messages that have appeared on
that list, not only the ones that I've kept in the folder for that
list).

That just shows how different needs and concepts are.

To answer your question: I don't recommend it. I haven't written Why
not to do it: Actually my ordering system uses the system
folders as general (others may utilize non-account folders in the
 betas).

After years of using very complex hierarchical directories I've come
to the conviction that less is better - the less complex something is
the better it will survive. And files/messages are easier to find and
 access with less levels.

I think my system is very simple. In most cases I use only 1 level,
sometimes 2 levels (as with the sent folder) and in one case 3 levels.
At the moment I have some 3 messages in my account (trash folders
excluded) and sometimes it is much easier to retrieve a certain
message or to browse a folder if you use more than one level. I
suppose you also use sometimes subdirectories...

Further I find it much easer to have all my sent messages in one group
of folders than divided into many different folders that are not part
of the same folder. I can recommend it!

BTW, that's why I own a *filofax* instead of *Time/system* or
*Chronoplan*. The second and third are - typically German? - much too
 overorganized.

I don't know any of them, so I can't comment on that...

With this attitude you're unlikely to get much help here. You're
exhibiting an attitude that I haven't encountered for a long time on
 this list.

What attitude? I wasn't asking for help, I just sent a message with my
ideas about the disadvantages of the editor of TB, and I get a
sarcastic reply suggesting that I'm a kind of idiot who can't see how
easily this perceived problem can be circumvented.

Your message before this one seemed to be an opinion, rather than a
 request for assistance.

That's right, I understood that there was no solution for me, and I
gave also the reasons for that. But now I get a comment implying that
my problem is more or less imaginary, if I just know how to use all
the features of TB. My only comment was that it would be more helpful
to say *how* you can circumvent the problem than just snigger about
those dumb people who have problems with this feature.

This message was in reply to a message where the author is celebrating
having found a solution to a problem which you said in your earlier
message didn't really affect you much.

What problem? The pasting of text in the editor? I said at least that
that didn't bother me much, so why then the sarcastic reaction on my
mail? That would then be quite beside the point. I thought I missed a
solution for my no-wrapping-after-rewriting problem, but now you
suggest it is only about pasting text (at least that is what I
understand).

IOW's please revise what the problem is.

What I mentioned in my previous mail, that I have to use alt L
continuously when I write a message, while I often make corrections in
the text.

Your insights into the auto-format feature and its limitations are
 accurate.

The TB! editor cannot be made to behave in a way that you wish it to.
This is probably why you haven't had a response on this list to your
 comment.

Neither did I expect a comment, I wasn't asking a question. But then I
got a reaction implying that I was so dumb that I couldn't see the
solution to my problem. Well, that is not the attitude I expect on
this list, and *that* is what I said in my previous message. I'm amazed
that you now are criticizing MY attitude in that regard.

The simpler method is to press Ctrl-Shift-F, type your corrections
and press Ctrl-Shift-F again when finished to turn the auto-format
back off. This is much more convenient than random Alt-L's.

Not for me; when I then type just one character in an indented passage
or a table or something like that, the whole layout is suddenly
destroyed. With Cntrl L you have at least some control over what
passages you want to reformat.

Because it is not supposed to unless you use Paste formatted
 (Shift-Ctrl-Ins). This is by design.

S I was told by one of the programmers, that I would have to use some
S keyboard combination, but that doesn't work out correctly all the

S their formatting once I do that.

That's why it's not supposed to reformat when pasting normally.

I seldom paste text when I edit a message, so I've no problem using
alt L if that happens occasionally. But I change very often text
that I've written, and I find it quite irritating that I have to use
alt L continually to keep the text readable. When I use auto-wrap I
want to have auto-wrap, and not free formatting. The problem is that
TB tries to combine two different methods that are not really
compatible into one option. Auto-format is useless for me, as I often
use indented and/or shorter lines.

I think it would be much better two have two different options: 1.
auto-wrap (as long as you edit the program uses soft returns, which
are converted to hard returns when you save the file, and with the
enter key you can force a hard return), without free format (so if you
want to move the cursor ahead of the text you have to insert spaces or
tabs - I have no problem with that), 2. no auto-wrap and free format
(you can move the cursor everywhere). The editor as it now is, is
definitely unpractical when it tries to combine these options. I find
this one of the flaws of TB (which is further still the best
mailprogram I know).

close to Outlook. FWIW, I've tried Sidekick 95, Lotus Organizer 2.1,

applications meet with two of my requirements:

 1. Allow events to be set at any regular interval up to a year. For
example, I have a ten-tape backup rotation. To set reminders for
the month 1, month 2, and month 3 tapes, I need an interval of
sixteen weeks.

 2. The alarm must display even if the computer is started after the
event has passed. For example, if the computer is switched off when
a reminder to renew insurances is due, that reminder should display
when the computer is started.

 Any suggestions?

Negative! If people want to see all that fancy HTML, then they can use a

I agree wholeheartedly. My experience is that 99% of the people who
