Match the sent messages folder to a sever side folder via:
Account -> Properties -> Mail management -> Set predefined folders...

The yahoogroups I'm subscribed to all have the reply-to header set to
the list, in order to get something else you need to use macros. So
you'd best delete the macros in your template that handle the To:

Save the excel sheet as .csv
Import the .csv in an address book group.
In order to maintain the integrity of your regular address book, I
suggest that you create a separate address book file just for this
action.
Besides the name and email you need to import the additional data in
that address book to, configure the import to insert those data in
fields that you don't use. that might be the home fax number, the
street of the personal or busines addresses, etc.

Create a template, for the additional data you insert the macro that
indicates that field, like %ABToFAX

The mass mailing has unexpected addresses when the address that it's
looking for occurs multiple times in the address book. Therefore
before you run the mass mailing, it's best to temporarily remove your
regular address book from your TB setup. (That's another reason to
import in a separate file.)
Afterwards you simply place your regular AB back and delete the
specioal import.

Create a dummy account, set the home directory for that account to
your storage device, create the relevant folders in that account and
move your historical stuff to those folders.
When ready, delete the account and tell TB to keep the files on disk.
That way they're removed from your current message base and
reletivel;y easy to restore. (Simply add the storage account to your

Changing a imap folder into a common folder is not possible. By its
nature an imap folder is remote (stored on the server) whereas a
common is local. (stored on your own computer)
The solution would be to create a new common folder and copy your
remote messages to that new folder.

> It seems I cannot even copy a single message from an IMAP folder to a
> different one, if I'm not connected to the IMAP server.

But it looks like you've tried that already.
IMAP is stored remote, if you cannot access the server, you cannot
access the messages.
There might be a workaround: the IMAP cache.
Create a new common folder.
Don't store any messages there.
Switch to the imap folder you want to 'restore'
>From the menu: Folder -> Properties
Here you'll find the full path to the IMAP cache of that folder
something like "some path"\accountname\IMAP\SDF456.TBB
Write that down.
Shut down TB
Copy the TBB file to the directory matching with your recently created
common folder and rename it to MESSAGES.TBB.
As it was an empty foldeer there shouldn't be any MESSAGES.* in that
directory, otherwise delete them beforehand.
Start TB and switch to the common folder.
If you're lucky you've got the messages.
Might depend on what you've got stored in the imap cache.
I didn't try this myself.

In the future when you stop using an imap server, copy the messages
before the actual stopping to your local message base.

That's because of the way that HTML is defined.
In order to have something clickable, it needs to have tags around it that are
parsed by the message viewer.
You as the recipient won't see those tags, you'll onbly see that they're
clickable.
A text doesn't have to be an address to be clickable, the tags around it have
to refer to an address.
This message is composed in HTML, so I can show some examples:
click here this doesn't show an address, but it does point to one
google.com this points to the shown address
www.chriswilson.tv this points to a different address than it shows, a
technique that's often used in fishing mails
http://www.gatesgarth.com this does shouldn't point to anything

CW> and can i change something? Thanks.

Nope. The HTML-viewer works as intended.
That the text viewer shows addresses as clickable is a feature and I don't
think you can disable it.

RB> TBUDL . Please, is there any way to set the
RB> default To: address for New: and Reply: messages to the official group
RB> address, when in mailing list folders?

That can be done by using a folder template that uses the To= macro,
for this list that would be something like this:
%To='"TBUDL" '%-
However, you should be very very very carefull with using these kind
of macro in folder templates, because this macro adds the tbudl
address to the existing To: header.
Consider this scenario:
You've been reading your tbudl mail and you start browsing, you enter
the site of your bank and a question rises. You click on the mailto
link at your bank site and start a message to your bank.
Nothing special, you'd say. But because TB still has its focus on the
tbudl folder it uses that template and it'll add the tbudl address to
your To: header, so your message is being sent to your bank and tbudl.

Don't think it won't happen to you. Over the years this has happened
regularly. Not especially banks, but several messages containing
private stuff that shouldn't appear on public mailing lists. It's no
matter if it will happen, but only when. It happens when you've got a
lot of things on your mind, that's when you're most vulnerable.

Is there an alternative?
Yes, there is a good alternative.
Enter the mailing lists to your address book. Don't wonder about the
address, simply send a message to tbudl and TB will auto-complete the
address from your address book. In your address book you can enter
special templates, so you can personalize your list messages to your
own taste. Not only your new messages, but also your replies.
Most mailing lists force replies back to the list by placing a
reply-to header in the message. So the reply goes to the list.
If you want to force TB to keep your reply general so it's clear that
you reply toi the list, set something like this in the reply template
in the address book entry of the list.
(example is for tbudl)

%To=""%To='"TBUDL" '%-
Hi guys,

It happened that %OFromName piped something to this list and here's
two cents that I want to add:

Continue with the rest of a proper reply template...

I hope this set you on the right track.

As a final remark I'd like to add: folder templates are a very usefull
feature (I use several of them), but don't you ever force them to a
set recipient, you'll get hurt.

The problem is that you don't understand the exact structure of the
address book. You're seeing the address groups and as they are shown
as folders, you think they are folders.
However, TB's address groups aren't folders, they're labels. So when
you delete an entry from the root, you also delete it from the groups
it was part of, because you delete the actual entry.
It doesn't work the other way around (even though you seem to claim
so) Deleting an entry from a group merely erases the group label for
that entry. (Yes, I've tested that multiple times before posting that
here.)
You can also a single entry to multiple groups whether those groups
have any connections with other or not.
In a follow up message you found out about the 'hide items if not
explicitly selected' option for an address group. Thjat option does
two things. It stops the entry from being displayed in the root and
when you delete such a message from a group, it'll be completely
deleted from the address book.
Those options stop working when you add an entry to a group with the
hide items enabled and to a group without that option enabled.

Adding an entry to a group with the 'hide items..' option enabled will
keep it from being disp[layed in the root. So if you want it back and
you create a new entry in the root, (You might want it there, after
all) then you will have two entries with the same address. Look into
the properties, if you've got one entry then the one entry will tell
you to what groups that address belongs, but with two entries, they
will show different group settings.
Basically that is a bad thing. Multiple entries with the same address
need to be changed all when that address changes (more work), but more
important, the address book templates you've created for one of those
entries won't work as expected, you'll never know what template
settings you'll be using.

All in all, TB's addres book is a wonderfull thing even tough you need
to sit down a bit in order to understand it.

A password on one account won't encrypt the message base. It'll merely

As for starting OTFE.
Create a backup with TB.
Unistall TB
Delete the existing message base
Delete the registry settings for TB
Install TB again
On TB's first run tell it to use OTFE
Restore the backup

Yes, switch to an encrypted message base, that'll mean that you need
to enter a master password on starting TB. (Or you have to provide a
hardware token.)
This also means that you cannot read the message base itself with
third party tools. (The unencrypted message base can be read with any
text editor.)

A> 2. setting up client folders within a mail account such that the

When using a plain message base, you can set passwords on accounts,

If I were you I'd go for OTFE, you've got the license for it and it is
the most secure option.

BTW Your signature delimiter doesn't work as intended, it should be
dash dash space on a line by itself, my guess is that you didn't
include the trailing space.

Apparently that's because you've made a typo.
It shouldn't be %SetEditor="1"% but either %SetEditor="1"%- or %SetEditor="1"
The SetEditor macro needs %SetEditor="1"
The %- macro that I used behind it is intended for merey cosmetic
reasons.
Either the trailing % of your macro combines with some part of the
text in the message body and creates an unintended macro or you've put
it somewhere in another macro and therefore messing that up.
I suggest that you place this: %SetEditor="1"%-
(that's including the trailing dash) on a line by itself either on the
first line of your template or on the last line of your template.
That way you're sure that it doesn't mess up other macros.

The SetEditor macro doesn't appear in my drop down list for new
macros, that list doesn't contain all macros, but only the most used
ones.
The SetEditor macro has four options: 1, 2, 3, 4
%SetEditor=1 sets MicroEd, 2 sets the Windows plain text editor, 3
sets HTML and plain text, 4 sets HTML only
The only reason you need to set it is when you want to use a different
editor in a certain message from your default editor.
The "use a specific template for new messages" box only means that
you'll be using specific template, not that it'll be handled in a
different editor, it's stioll being processed by your default editor
settings, unless you change that editor manually or with the SetEditor
macro.

I decided to test your settings, so I set the default editor to HTML
only and afterwards to HTML with alternative plain text. And behold,
the behaviour you were describing took place. New messages to tbudl
were in HTML even though replies were in plain text.
Upon closer inspection it appeared that my reply-template included the
macro %SetEditor="1"%- where my new message template didn't. (It
hadn't been necessary in all those years as plain text was my default)
So that was the reason I got HTML messages, not that the template
wasn't used, but it didn't contain all the proper ingredients.

In my previous post I forgot a reason that might stop the use of
defined address book templates. When you've got multiple address book
entries with the same address then the templates won't be used as
expected. So you might check for multiple entries for tbudl.

In order to do that, you'd need the font to be attached to the message
and on receipt to be installed on the receiving computer. HTML doesn't
support that kind of actions. Apart from that think of the safety
risks that that would bring.

The address book template for new messages will only be used when you

When first typing (part of) the message and then setting ther

This is very basic.
Personal address book templates taske precedence over address groups
templates, the latter take precedence over folder templates and
finally there are account templates.

There are two reasons that existing address book templates aren't
triggered:
1) the address occurs in multiple entries
2) the address with the temnplateisn't the first address inth To: HEADER

POP3 or IMAP?
If POP3: Do you store the mail on the server for some time or do you
delete them at once? If so, some mail servers sometimes change the id
of the stored messages, thus making the client think that the messages
have been downloaded already. A different client that doesn't have a

Yep, just copy your mail directory to your new computer, install TB
and point it to the copied mail directory on its first run. Create a
new account and give it the name of one of your existing accounts, the
settings will be copied from disk. The other accounts should be picked

Thaty kind of error is most likely to occur when you're downloading a
message that contains a virus. The message gets downloaded to temp,
the virus scanner kicks in and deletes the message.
TB tries to import it and can't find it.
Use either the mail dispatcher
(accont -> dispatch mail on server)
or your ISP's webmail in order to delete the infected message.

I don't think that's possible.
And to complicate your wish about adding it to the menu, filters (and
therefiore the hotkeys assigned to them) are account specific. So
adding those hotkeys to the menu would mean that the menu would change
for every account.

Another way to do these resends to a collegue would be to create an
event that runs this filter of yours every 15 minutes, but only
against one folder. That way you don't need to remember any hotkeys,
but you move a message to that given folder and the scheduler will
take care of resending and archiving the message.

The backup will run and TB will freeze.

Mail collection will continue, but I'm not sure whether messages that
are being received actually will end up in the backup. My guess is
that messages that are destined for folders that aren't backupped yet,
will be included in the backup, but messages that are destined for
folders that were processed by the backup process will be ignored.

Apart from the freezing I can't think of any negative effects.

Last time I checked (but I haven't used the auto backup for a long
time), you could set the time of the backup, the recurrence (once
every x days) and what you'd like to backup.
It can all be set at:
 Options -> Preferences - > System -> Auto backup

LSB> 2. Is there some way to run a backup more than once a day?

Sure, but not with the auto backup. I'm using an event in the
taskmanager to do my backups. You can set such an event to run every
five minutes if you need that many backups. ;-)

LSB> 3. Is there any logging of the operation of a backup?

I'm not sure about that. TB does its logging account based and a
backup does multiple accounts.
When you're running an event that does your backups, you might add an
action that adds something to one of TB's account logs, or even in a
dedicated backup-log, but that's the only thing I can think of.

Well, I let it through, but the list server stripped the attachment.

TF> So, it's MIME encoded like an attachment, but then, every HTML mail
TF> is, isn't it? Isn't any HTML part technically an attachment?

Actually every HTML part should be an attachment, though some clients
don't do it that way when they're sending HTML-only messages without
pictures.
When the message includes inline pictures, the pictures need to be
sent along with the message and that has to be done as attachments.
The HTML body wil be referring to those attachments and the HTML part
will also be defined as a separate part like an attachment, just as
the text part is when your using attachments.
However, both the text part and the HTML part don't need to be MIME
encoded, they can be sent as readable text. Pictures always need to be
MIME encoded as they might contain characters that aren't allowed in
e-mails, hence the encoding.

TF> In truth, I don't know anything, just throwing these header fragements
TF> into the list to see whether this is really wrong behaviour of TB!.

I saw your message as it was stopped by the server and then the
message contained the picture as an inline picture. Hoewever, that was
read by TB and as HTML in e-mail is a bit of a gray area, some clients
do stuff different.

TB stores the number of accounts in the registry. Therefore it won't
look for more accounts.
Create a new account with the same name as your new account folder, TB

Stuff that TB needs to save as a file before they're processed any

It's possible that you find it such, but Marek explained that it's an
internal field and therefore it cannot be overwritten.
I don't know what more you expect, but as moderator of this list I

AFAIK TB has no Out of Office Replies
However, it's not that difficult to create one with a filter.
And if you compare the sender's address against an address book group,
you can set the lists that don't need a message.
And when you add the recipients of your out of office replies to that
address book group, they won't be getting multiple replies.
And when you get back you need to disable the filter.

But this means that you've got to keep your computer (and TB) running
while you're away. Is that what you want? An out of office reply
should be handled by the server, whether it's run by your ISP, your
boss or yourself.

I altered the target folder and for me the filter functioned properly.
Though at first it didn't because the test message was intercepted by
another filter, that didn't move the filter, but merely added
something to the address book.
Therefore you'd better check your log to see whether your message(s)
is/are triggered by a filter that's listed above this one.

Unless you get a pop-up about an expired license or an evaluation

My guess is that you're too impatient. Considering the age of your PC,
the size of your message base and presuming that you open TB as soon
as your system is starting, I think that your pc is still busy doing
its startup stuff and that it doesn't have the processing power to do
everything at the same time.

What might help is making your folders smaller, that means more of
them, but TB needs time to read the folder and a larger folderr takes
more time to open than a small folder.
Apart from that, when is the last time you compressed your database?

The proper way to restore a backup is placing the backup file on the
new system, install TB and on the first run you tell TB to restore
from backup. After the restore you close TB and restart it.
That way even the registry settings should be restored

Yes, the only things that won't be preserved this way are the registry

This posting violated the list rules regarding
top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and

You could try to install 4.2.44, maybe that that helps.
Did you do a lot of customizing of your interface? If not then you
could close TB and delete the tbuser.def in your mail directory (or
rename it to tbuser.def.old) and start TB again. That will disable all

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

To find out why these MOD messages are posted to the list instead of
private mail, please read the welcome message you received when you

Thank you.

That's typical for the msi system, its mantra goes like: Thou shallt

The way to go is to uninstall v5 and next install v4. You won't loose

That's what you'd expect when your AV software interrupts the download

I'd suggest that you check with the dispatcher whether it's a message

That's a server message, not something created by TB, so my guess is

Probably that you're sending HTML mail, the solution is to send in
plain text. You can automate that for this list by creating an address
book template for the list address (both for new messages and replies)
that contains the macro:
%SetEditor='1'
This means you'll use plain text.

That one is restricted, you cannot alter the X-Mailer header. Apart
from that, there are distinct differences between messages created by
Outlook, Outlook Express, The Bat!, Thunderbird, etc. Several spam
filters are programmed to look for fake X-Mailer headers and condsider
those fake headers as sapam.

Try this.
In your account settings, change the server name back to something
that matches the certificate.
In your windows/system32/drivers/etc/ folder you'll find a file hosts
or hosts.sam
In that file you add the line:
ip-address hostname
With hostname the same as you've entered in the account settings and
ip-address the ip-address of your server.
And in case you've only got a hosts.sam file, you need to rename that
to hosts (without any extension) Note the file is plain text.
And reset your pc.
If this doesn't I haven't got any ideas.
