Re: SpamPal or K9?
Michael, I really like K9 (& POPFile), but to conserve resources on this old system I'm trying the plug-in Achim Winklers BayesFilter, http://www.lkcc.org/achim/download/bayesfilter1.5.4.exe. So far it seems to be almost as good as K9, but learns slower. I did better with the older versions of BayesIt than the present ones, so I gave up on it. Steve . . . Re: BayesIt web english web page
I, too, just installed The Bat! plug-in Achim Winklers BayesFilter. From my first test, it seems to be quite a cut above BayesIt. (For those who want to try it, you can get it from http://www.lkcc.org/achim/download/bayesfilter1.5.4.exe.) I'll probably move my white and black lists from K9, but it seems to work well (so far) without those lists. I actually have only a dozen or so in my black & white lists, so they shouldn't change much. Steve . . . Re: BayesIt web english web page
Neal, I'm, using 06.6, which I thought was the latest version. BayesIt hasn't worked well for me since the version that came with The Bat 2.12; I don't remember its version number. Do you have the URL for 0.6.8? The web site for BayesIt http://klirik.narod.ru/usefuls/bayesiteng.htm lists 0.4 as the latest version. I've been getting the URLs for the later versions from this forum. Thanks! Steve . . . BayesIt web english web page
Does anybody know if there a comprehensive BayesIt web page in English, such as the Russian http://www.ritlabs.com/ru/solutions/BayesIt.php. If I switch the language selector on the Russian page to English, nothing happens. I tried http://www.ritlabs.com/en/solutions/BayesIt.php, but only get a "not found" message. I'm frustrated enough with BayesIt's inability to recognize junk mail, that I'm ready to switch back to K-9, which averages a 97-99% junk recognition success rate for me one I got it trained. Thanks! grayed out icons
Once in a while when reading email, several icons (primarily those that effect operation on the messages, such as Delete, the Replies, and the Forwards) will suddenly gray out and I lose access to those features. If I switch to another folder and then back, the icons un-gray and work fine. I can't find a pattern to his happening. Do others have this problem and is it a reportable bug, or is it unique to my system? I don't remember this happening with The Bat! version 1.x, just 2.x. Thanks! Steve . . . Yes, that's what I mean. Some of the icons are easy to figure out, but some not. For example, I'd like the upload icon to change colors, say to red, when messages are waiting to upload. We didn't start using The Bat! until the first week of July '03. We moved from Poco because, after 2+ years of using it, the unfixed bugs and poor documentation were driving me nuts. Everybody raved about The Bat!'s power, so I decide to switch. I'm beginning to feel that the standard 30-day trial period just isn't enough, and that maybe users should push for 60 to 90 days. Sigh!!! Maybe I'll retry Becky. I handle software switches quite easily, but my wife will go nuts learning another interface after she just got comfortable with this. Re: [ok] Re: recomend another mailer ?
I've been using Poco for a year or so, but have decided to switch because it has a few bad bugs that haven't been cleared up. I've reported them to no avail. The developer doesn't seem to put anywhere near the effort in the program that he used to, particularly since he brought out the new "portable" version of Poco. I've tried most of the available e-mail programs, and will probably stick with The_Bat!, unless Poco gets fixed soon or Courier, the new Calypso replacement, proves to be a major improvement over the original. Both my wife and I like Poco's interface better, but it's bugs have been quite distracting. And, The_Bat! seems quite a bit faster.
