Synchronise Outlook and The Bat address books

2006-10-11 Thread bat
I'm probably asking for too much (as usual) but is there a simple way
to keep The Bat and Outlook address books synchronised?

I need to use Outlook because it easily syncs with my PDA but I would
prefer to use The Bat for emails. But this means I have some
addresses in one place and others in another. I know I can export
them as CSV files but that's time consuming and can lead to
duplicates.

Any ideas?

PS. Apologies to Marck for sending this to him personally and thanks
for your pleasant response. I think a day of sorting out a backlog of
emails had started to addle my brain.

I store the messages before I send them, so I can check everyone gets the

When I copy the text from the stored message to the current message
the copied text is pasted in full. However, when I paste it into the
next message, some of the text is missing.
What happens to the copy buffer when a new message is created?
Is this a bug, or a feature!

Just a suggestion, but you might want to try a program like GroupMail,
which will do this kind of thing much better than TB!

http://www.group-mail.com/asp/common/default.asp

There is a free version that would get you started. It will only send
100 messages at a time, but you can create 3 groups quite easily.

MP In the UK you have 14 days

MP however companies that offer a trial version for at least 14

Access Violation when I try to PGP sign or encrypt + nothing happens when I try to decrypt/verify

2004-08-31 Thread Mike email (The Bat!)

Hi

Trying to PGP sign or encrypt has started giving me
Access Violation at address 00404044 in module 'thebat.exe'.
  Read of address F28B12E7.

This was happening very occasionally but is now all the
  time.

After starting TB I can decrypt/verify messages. If I try to
sign or encrypt one it goes through all the motions of selecting
signing key, asking for passphrase (if not cached), selecting
keys to encrypt to etc. Then nothing happens. The edit message
window stays open and the message is not sent.

From that point onwards, pressing the button to decrypt a
message or verify a signature does nothing either.

Trying to send the message again (or another) gives the access
violation. This is only if using the built-in support with pgp
(8.0.3). I can still use PGP's current window functionality and
I can still send non-pgp messages.

Trying to access the openpgp preferences dialog gives a
different access violation message:Access Violation at address
02904ED2 in module 'PGPSDK.dll'. Read of address 02A8800C.

Any ideas what has happened and how to resolve?

Problem with filenames of attachments to incoming messages

2004-08-09 Thread Mike email (The Bat!)

Hi

  Anybody else have this problem?

If an attachment on an incoming message has a filename containing spaces,
everything after the first space is truncated. This includes the
extension, so you cannot open the attachment.

It seems to depend on which email application was used to send the
  message.

If the message was created using The Bat! or 40tude Dialog there
is no problem. My attached file is still called New Text Document.txt.

If it was sent from Pegasus Mail it still works but the attached file is
  now called Part.txt

If it was sent using Outlook Express or Calypso the attached file becomes
  simply New.

If the same messages are collected from the server using Outlook Express
then, in all the above cases, the attached file is still called New Text
  Document.txt.

RA If you are viewing the headers when you select reply, you will see the
RA headers as part of the output from either the %QUOTES or the %TEXT
RA macros. Otherwise you won't. I don't think there is a macros that will
RA only quote the text in the body part under both circumstances, although
RA you could create a quick template to do that using a regular expression.

spell checker - three usage questions / difficulties

2004-07-13 Thread Mike email (The Bat!)
Hi

I cannot work out a couple of things about using the spell checker.

Firstly, how do you abort the spell-check but still send the message. If I
press cancel, the spell-checking is cancelled but so is sending the
message. The only way round this I've found so far is menu Spell checker
uncheck the option to check before send/queue and then press send
again. Surely I have missed something?

Secondly, pressing add when the spell-checker fails to recognise a word
has no effect. The word continues to be picked up as a possible mistake.
How do I make this work?

Thirdly, I have British English selected as my language but
spell-checker seems to suggest a mix of UK and US spellings. For example,
British colour not American color. American-style -ize endings on
words instead of the British -ise ending. Co-operative with the
hyphen(UK-style) or without (US). Is this a feature of the dictionary used
and If so can I import a better third-party version? Or is it likely to be
something wrong with my setup? My spell-checker options are
  Automatic checking
  Check before send
  Language 2. British English
  Options case sensitive
typographical suggestions
auto-correct
moderately fast and accurate

   TIA for any help

Cannot open email messages forwarded as attachments - incompatibility between TB! and OE?

2004-07-11 Thread Mike email (The Bat!)
Hi

If I receive a message forwarded as an attachment by somebody using
Outlook Express, the .eml extension is missing and TB! won't let me open
the attached message: no application is associated with the specified file
(and no option to choose one from a list). All but the first word of the
filename is truncated, or else the filename is replaced by a number. I have to
save the attachment to disc, add .eml to the filename and then import the
message to be able to read it in TB!.

If I leave the message on the server and download it again in OE or in
Pegasus Mail the filename is unchanged, the .eml is present (although OE
sometimes hides it) and I can open the attachment by clicking on it.

If I forward a message using TB! it becomes inline text (good practice) PLUS
an attachment with an .msg extension, which OE doesn't seem to cope with but

problem using Create Message feature in Sorting Office actions

2003-03-19 Thread The Bat and Machete
Hi,
I used Leif's instructions on creating a mailing list, and I have
everything working except that for some reason The Bat! won't create a
message from incoming message!

I've done the following steps under the actions tab in the Sorting Office:
1. Checked the Create a message for box
2. Provided a name (I started with the list addr, but even tried an
existing alternate personal addr.
3. I added macro information in the template.

I know that the filter is working because I specify the messages to be
moved to another folder. Nothing I've tried works for creating the
new message. I've tried:
- Not moving the message to another folder
- Simplifying the template text
- various target addresses (both plain and angle-bracketed)
- restarting The Bat!
- cursing

Is this feature broken or have I missed some fundamental switch to get
this to work? Plenty of folks seem to be swimming along just fine with
a working mailing list. Please help me before I go insane.

Remail

2002-05-15 Thread The Bat and Machete

Gotta love my ISP.

In their ongoing war with spammers, they are blocking unknown IP
addresses from accessing their SMTP. Which is fine if you're using
KillerMail, a web-based client and their recommended (i.e. supported)
client. I, being of sound mind, use TB!.

My cable modem regularly leases a new IP, so I'm out of luck with
sending mail from home directly through my ISP. SO ... I'd like to
send mail from home to my copy of TB! at work and have it
redirect that mail to the address(es) I provide somewhere in the
email (custom kludges? doable?). I'd like to have TB! do this
automatically.

Basically, I'm trying to use TB! as a remailer, if possible.

Thanks!

No patents here grin too. And the answers to your question is quite
 easy:
 1. There are MUAs that allow user to deliver e-mail messages directly to

 2. This delivery scheme is unusual at the user's end and isn't
appreciated by the ISPs. Remember that user != server :-)

Who cares about what your ISP thinks. It's not that unusual and many people
run their own smtp server. I run one at work to ave having to use the demon
one.

 4. We're living in the world of spam. Let the servers do their work
 perfectly.

But they don't do their work perfectly and it is simple for a spammer to set
up their own smtp server. Disallowing relaying is a poor system. As is
blackholeing.

Re: Automatic search for names in the sender field

MS Hi folks,

MS I am new and wanted to try this nice program. And it really looks
MS great - but I have two questions:

MS Is there a possibility that the names in the "To:" field are
MS automatically shown from the address book (like in Netscape
MS Messenger)? If I type a part of a e-mail-address that is unique, then
MS "The Bat!" don't show me the full e-mail-address automatically. That
MS really is a pity because I really enjoyed that feature in Netscape
MS messenger.

MS For example: if I have a user "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and its name is Testuser
MS then TB don't show me the whole e-mail-address when typing "tu". But
MS when I am typing Testuser it shows all. Also it would be nice if TB
MS would automatically extend the e-mail automatically with the domain of
MS the account if a domain is missing in the address.

MS Also a pity is that the address book doesn't automatically jump to the
MS search field when I press "Shift-Return" in the To-field. And when I
MS have found the person I can't add it automatically to the To-field by
MS pressing Return (or Ctrl-Return). I have to press Shift-Tab (that the
MS cursor jumps in the adress-field) and then press Return. That really
MS are too much keystrokes for that. So, I really would appreciate if
MS there would come some changes.

MS

MS Okay, that have been my technical questions. Now I would like to know
MS two different things:
MS 1. When I register, for which versions is the key valid? Is it valid
MS for every future version or only for the 1.x or 1.4x? (Sorry, I didn't
MS find anything on the homepage!)
MS 2. What will be the new features of V.2 and when it will be released.

1. The key will register all 1.x versions. I'm not 100% sure about 2.x,
could Stefan of one of the moderators please clear this issue. I think
that it has been asked before. Although I can find no record of it.

2. Version 2.x will do everything under the sun. The wish list grows
every day with weird and wonderful things for the RIT people to
program. Think of a cross between HAL, ORAC and Deep Thought and
you'll have TB!2.

About the address book issue. You could always use a mouse :-)
