more on my trekker AB/group

2002-07-23 Thread Deborah W

Okay, okay, so I gave in to all of you & made the trekker AB a group
in the personal AB insteadLOL

Now I need to extract the info from that group & send it as some sort
of file to another person - a plain-text file or a Word or Excel file
would do - anything as long as it's readable by someone else who
doesn't use TB.

I've tried creating a csv & a tdf, but both select the entire AB - I
only want the Trekker group. I need to be able to choose which fields
are included in the file I send to. Can I create a file that will do
this? Or alternatively, can I put the information from the AB into the
body of an email? How?

TIA
Deborah

Filtering on an AB group

2002-07-02 Thread Joseph N.

I have a filter set up with a particular domain name in the headers as
the string which triggers the action. I also have an address group
set up, with the members all having that domain name in their email
addresses. I've discovered that the filter is not triggered when the
AB group nickname appears in the To: field. (The short nickname does
not contain the domain name.) Is there any reason for the program to
operate this way? I can make the nickname an alternative rule, but if
that's the workaround, then one should consider that possibility when
creating AB nicknames so there's no unintended filtering action when
the text string appears in a different context.

In the filter actions, there's an option to save the message to file.
You can define the filename and the format of the saved message using
the provided template.

The only real difference is in the subject header. The read

auto-reply will have 'Re: '.

You say that you copy the message to an HTML document. You could have
the message copied to the document automatically, so that all you need
to do is open the HTML document with your HTML editor.

I've sort of solved my original problem with your help by doing the

What happens, Allie, is that in responding to a poster, TB!
correctly accesses a group template which includes a greeting & a
  signature.

Then I manually insert a QT manually to switch some of the contents
around. This QT includes %CLEAR, the correct text & %INCLUDES a
  signature.

The resulting message is correct in all ways *except* that the first
line is blank followed on the next line with "--". I assume
%CLEAR is somehow creating the blank line even though I placed it @
the end of the QT. However I can't figure out what is creating the
  "--" signature delimiter.

a) Upload to your site using the steps you outlined. TB! cannot help

b) A single manual filter to move the message to another folder and
send an auto-reply. You could even use the same filter to save the

Yes. If the recipient address for the reply is in your address book

will override your folder template.

Why not use the quick template as an auto-reply template?

If you manually move the messages to this special folder, you could
create a manual filter that moves the message and at the same time,
generates an auto-reply message in the process. The auto-reply uses
its own template as you may know and the quick template could be used
there.

TB! v1.49 - folder template v AB group entry

2001-02-05 Thread Jan Rifkinson

Hello TBUDListers.

I have a bulletin board on one of my sites.

As people write me to post their announcements on this bulletin
board, I move their requests into a special folder.

I reply to each person individually from this folder telling them
that their item (either %OSUBJ or %CLIPBOARD) has been posted & I
supply them with the URL where they can find it. The msg is signed.

I thought this would be a good place for a folder template but, of
course, it comes in conflict with the addressee who is most likely
listed in my AB or in as part of a group. Groups in my AB have reply
  templates attached to them.

At the moment I am using an F4 reply & manually inserting a QT which
includes A %CLEAR but when it does, the msg begins with a blank
line, then line 2 begins with "-- ", then the templated msg & proper
  signature.

Any thoughts on how I could accomplish this task correctly or, at
  least, more elegantly?

  TIA

Re: AB group

2000-11-03 Thread Januk Aggarwal

Hello Jan,

On Fri, 3 Nov 2000 at 18:00:32 GMT -0500 (which was 3:00 PM
where I live) witnesses say Jan Rifkinson typed:

> Well, this is still escaping me. Would you be so
> kind as to tell me exactly how you set up a group
> & how you address an email to that "group".

Here is an excerpt of a message I sent to TBUDL on October 15, 2000

cBegin Excerpt
1. create a group (Edit -> Create group)
2. Give it a name and a handle. Deselect "Hide items if not
   explicitly selected.
3. Now in the left hand side of the address book, you'll have a tree
structure. Expand the tree and select the top level.
4. From the right hand side, choose your contacts you want to add to
the group. Drag them to the group on the left hand side.
5. Now when you create a new message, type in the group's handle.
When you Tab out of the To: field, TB will expand the addresses to
   handle

Although it looks like TB will attempt to send to an invalid address,
the list is substituted before hitting your mail server. If you
include yourself in the group, you'll see what I mean.
c===End Excerpt

Mmmh, I remember that I had the same problem. It wasn't TB, my ISP was the
culprit: the message that came back was "No valid email address" (that's what
was written in the log field).

May be it was TB not resolving the group adress into several email adresses
while transferring the msg?!

Have a look at the log field at the bottom of your TB: Did TB try to transfer
the data and your ISP refused to send?

If so, is anybody out there knowing what Jan and I are doing wrong?

How are you entering the group adress? I think you will have to
use the group handle, not the name, followed by the word .
If your group's handle is "test" then write:

test

At the FAQ site there is a part about how to set up a mailing
list, where there is useful information about these things.

Hello BatListers,

I'm afraid I'm still a bit confused about this subject.
I was trying to set up a test group, i.e. give a
group a name & enter some email addresses for people
who have the same thing in common. Then create a new
msg & address it to the list name. I tried this & TB!
wouldn't send the msg. What am I don't wrong here?

 Thanks.

Unfortunately, no. It would be nice if there was a macro to auto
expand the group name into the full list of addresses. This is one
instance where you *don't* see exactly what TB is going to send out.
In fact, short of including yourself in the group, TB will never show
you exactly what was sent, or to whom it was sent.
