Re: Bat! cannot connect to server for outgoing mail
Hello all, I thought some might be interested in the answer to this problem I posted. My ISP made adjustments to help block spam, one of which was not to permit people to send from any mail server other than their own. So I had to change the smtp.mail.yahoo.com to mail.earthlink.net and the problem is completely solved. Too bad it took them nearly a week to get back to me about it... *grumble* Melissa Monday, December 04, 2000, 10:37:42 PM, I wrote: MCB Hello all. Re: Bat! cannot connect to server for outgoing mail
Hallo Melissa, I had a worse problem when I was visiting my mother and logged in through Hamburg.de. When sending company email with my Taiwanese edmail address as sender, I couldn't send, because Hamburg.de wouldn't let me use their smtp server (even though I was logged in through them). They don't allow usage of their smtp server when the sender details are not a valid account with them. I couldn't use my Taiwanese smtp server, because I was *not* logged in through them, and the error message from my Taiwanese smtp server was "We don't relay". Of course, I have International Roaming on my Taiwanese account, but the roaming service provider in Germany will only send encrypted passwords, and the Taiwanese provider will only accept clear-text... :-( So I ended up sending from my GMX address and use the GMX smtp server. But of course, that From address confused all my workmates as well as my customers At least Earthlink will let you use their smtp server when you are logged in through them, regardless of your From address. When I am logged in through my Taiwanese ISP, I can use their smtp server for any From address, or can use any smtp server which will accept my mails. Hello Melissa other fellow TB! Users, Monday, December 04, 2000, you stated: MCB ... I checked all those three, and they seem to be fine. The MCB Bat! does receive before trying to send, I do have the Yahoo! MCB address as the From address for that account, MCB and if my ISP is blocking outgoing mal servers, that's news to MCB me. I can certainly check on it, though. Did you try using the ISPs own smtp server as the outgoing server? (That sometimes works). Also, IMO there are better free email account providers than yahoo.
