Does v4 fix the issue where if you get an email addressed to multiple people
(everyone on my sports team) and you want to save the list of people,
highlighting the TO or CC field with all the names, right click -- add to
address book and you only add the 1st name in the list? This broke somewhere
in v3 because it used to go thru and bring up a card for everyone so I could
add them and make tweaks as I go.

Hello Dwight,

IMAP: Occasionally tasks will never finish. Sometimes they are
benign, that is, their hanging at least doesn't block anything,
sometimes some or all folders can't be displayed any more (message
 list empty)
Have encountered this occasionally. Not really a show stopper to me.

It forces a restart of TheBat. If this happens frequently it is a
real bother, especially since TheBat doesn't notify you that it has
just locked up, naturally. If you don't check it yourself every ten
minutes you can never be sure that it is indeed still working and
alerting you about incoming mail.

IMAP: Folders duplicate. In v3-versions I've just been seeing
Trash.1 (sometimes it is deletable, sometimes it isn't), in v4
other folders duplicate with the exact same name (Outlook created a
folder named Junk, TheBat copied it four times already (deletable)
Have not encountered this in a very long time.

Happened to me this morning.

IMAP: Unable to manage folders. Right-click on folder: Mark as read
and Empty are greyed out. Switch back and forth between this and
other folders, eventually the options will be available.
Not seeing this today, never seen it before. Mark as read not
 available when folder is empty.

I installed v4 on Friday afternoon and have been seeing it back then
already, though I didn't pay much attention to it. Today I had to,
because it occured regularily: Messages were displayed in msg list
window, yet neither Mark as read nor Empty on the folder were
available.

IMAP: Folder shows now messages (in message list), but still count is
non zero. Select Mark all read (folder right-click context menu),
 usually the count will zero.
I guess you mean 'no messages.'

Of course, sorry.

This is the most pervasive flaw in TB! IMAP

Ironically, this is the one from the pack I could rather live with. ;-)

Mail check: Check will cease after some time, new messages will no
longer be announced nor displayed, even on manual folder change.
Restart required to get it working again. (Observed with last v3
 release, not yet with v4)
Long time since I was running version 3, so no comment. History now
 anyway.

Indeed, with v4 it hasn't occured here yet, either.

Hi John,

 Care to list them?

Ah yes, the gags of this morning:

- Came in to notice that some messages that I sent yesterday in fact
hadn't been sent. Instead, they were lingering in the Outbox -
several times each. I hit send all, one less. Hit send again,
nothing more happened, though there were still some messages there. I
fiddled around with it some more, which I believe resulted in sending
some duplicates, but couldn't send them all. I tried to delete them,
didn't work either. Then I chose unpark and then deleted them, now
at least the Outbox is empty again. I have no idea which of the
messages were actually sent and how often that might have occured.

- I wrote a message, sent it and after some time noted that it, too,
still lingered in the Outbox. This time, however, there was an error
in the log Could not export message.

I deleted v4. This is not acceptable.

for example.

M With earlier versions I had some problems also, but these have
M disappeared in the meantime.

You just got me thinking: Actually, almost all the problems I'm having
with TheBat besides IMAP are more or less inconveniences. I don't like
some changes that were made and prefer the way it used to be, but
can't switch back in all cases. If a new program had presented itself
to me with these behaviours I'd probably just shrug it off as so be
it. Only the fact that I have seen this and that detail performing so
much better (to me) the old way makes me grumpy.

Ok, well, maybe I need to reconsider this a bit.

However, this is all academic since IMAP isn't working.

Any day of the week. Since TheBat was about my first email program
(not counting several command line and other DOS-based episodes) I was
rather surprised that features I came to regard as basic were in fact
not present in any other program. The parts of TheBat that are working
are often unaproached by any competitor. It's the parts that do _not_
work that concern me, and those parts are getting more instead of less
over time.

MS Any opinions on which one to use? Which version proofed to contain the
MS least number of bugs?

If you want to use IMAP the last usable version is v3.0.1.33. Things
have deteriorated further from then on. If you only use POP3 you can
get the latest v3 version.

I don't agree.

I don't have more problems with IMAP in the version

Hello Tbudl,

Sorry, if I used the wrong keywords to search the forum...I just did
not find any relevant posts:

As I am currently not brave enough (and neither have the time nor the
need to upgrade to 4.x) I would simply like to install the latest and
best 3.x version and live happily with it for the next years.

Any opinions on which one to use? Which version proofed to contain the
least number of bugs?

Thanks a lot!

Not the latest and I can't comment about the best, having not used
all releases, but 3.80.06 works well here.

I would say v3.98.4. That one is pretty stable and doesn't have
too many irritating bugs.

The *one* grouse I had with 3.99.29 was the compose message window where on
attaching files I could not see the panel on the left that showed attach files.
The promised they would fix it in next version and they have :) IIRC this
afflicted all 3.99 series. Can't remember which prior version did not have this
bug though.
