Can't Retrieve Mail in TB on One Account

2002-07-11 Thread Chris Montgomery

Howdy TheBatUsers,

I just switched to DSL from cable today and am having a problem with
the email account that comes with my DSL service. I am able to
retrieve email for my other accounts, but not the DSL mail account.
I have also successfully sent mail from another account using the
outgoing mail (smtp) settings for the DSL account.

Sent a test message to my new DSL mail account and can see the
message on the server using their browser-based webmail service.
Plus, I can retrieve the test message and see it in Mailwasher. Just
can't download it using TB. I've verified the account settings in TB
  and Mailwasher are the same.

  Any ideas? Thanks.

eliminate TB from the POP equation by using another email client like
OE. If you can, then it has to be something in TB. If you *cannot*,
then it has to be something else preventing that traffic.

firewalls?

Ok, I tried using Outlook and it pulled the message down just fine. I
was also able to send an outgoing message for this account in TB.

Am using Zone Alarm Pro 3.x, but it hasn't affected any of the other
accounts before. Turning it off had no effect on this account (i.e.,
still couldn't retrieve the message from the server).

Well, since this won't be a critical account, I'm going to set aside
the problem for now. Maybe something will come to me later. I'll see
if tech support for the provider has had any other complaints like
this.

Cheers,

Have you tried looking at the log for that account just after you have attempted
connecting, and see what the message says? I think the log is found under
Account - Account Log... I can be corrected, and will probably do so myself
tomorrow when I get into work ;)

Oddly enough, the message just downloaded. I had about given up on it
for today, was going to tackle the problem again tomorrow, then I
decided to reset the password and here it came. Had I looked
at the log earlier, this would have been apparent and I wouldn't
appear so dumb. :)

Anyway, it appears to be working for now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Chris,

It sounds like your setup for the DSL is wrong. I guess you will have to
walk through al the settings. What might help is checking the TB! log
file for error msg's. It might be as simple as a wrong password.
