FF was already to set to check it was the default, and I have followed
your advice about changing the default back to MSIE and then back
again to FF, hopefully this has now changed all the defaults. I still
get an MSIE icon in The Bat however, even though it now opens FF. But
other that it seems to be working.

There is one setting for the filetype "HTML", and another one for the
protocol HTTP/HTTPS (with the file extension of "(none)" in the Folder
Options).

Enable FF to check if it is the default browser. Set the default browser
(in Control Panel / Internet) to something else but FF (MSIE) and apply
the setting. Close the Internet properties and start FF. It should show
you the dialog that it is not the default browser. When you make FF the
default browser again it should change all the Folder/Filetype options
to FF as well.

I have just checked this and indeed it was set to use MSIE. As I said
clicking on HTML links inside an email opened Firefox, and as clicking URLs
elsewhere opened Firefox, I had assumed the system settings were set up for
Firefox.

It was only HTML messages in The Bat that were opening in MSIE, hence
my assumption that it was a Bat default setting somewhere

Not sure what I should be checking in the FF installation.

Its a system setting, not a TB setting.

Open Explorer. Select the Tools menu, Folder Options. On the "File
Types" tab locate HTML and associate FF with it.

Normally, FF does that when you make it the default browser on your
system. Maybe you should also check your FF installation.

Default browser options

2006-12-24 Thread Graham Smith
Hello,

If I click on a URL in an email message Firefox (the default system
browser) opens.

However, if a message has been sent as an HTML file, and I try to open it by
clicking on the message.html icon, The Bat opens MSIE. which is the
browser suggested by the file icon.

How do I get The Bat to open HTML mail messages in Firefox. I assumed
this would be in the preferences somewhere, but cannot find it.

Many thanks

Actually, Outlook integrates IE's engine so TB! does more than Outlook
in the HTML rendering dept. since unlike Outlook that uses IE, it uses
its own rendering engine to view HTML mails. However, it will not
fetch remote data which IE will do ... so Outlook does it too.

That's not what I was saying... the OS lets you select the default
browser (not just IE) and lets you create accounts that have different
user preferences. If someone decides not to use those features why
should TB! implement them internally?

Okay, there are exceptions... for example, on my system Powermarks and
Notetab Pro. But you'd expect that with a bookmark utility and general
purpose editor that's used for coding HTML etc.

Maybe this is a limitation of XP Home? With XP Pro you can create an
account and set default programs for e-mail, Web browsing, media player,
IM, and Java. The settings are applied to the current account and don't
affect other users.

How do I open URL in NON-default browser?

2003-06-19 Thread Lawrence Johnson

If I click on a URL link, it opens a window in the default browser.
If I right-click on the URL, the only option is "Open URL". I can
select the URL text and copy to the clipboard. But if the displayed
text is not the same as the link, all I get when I paste into browser's
URL field is the displayed text.

Ideally, it would be nice to get a selection of the installed browsers
to choose from in which the window is to be opened.

Is there any way to make this happen or is this a wishlist item?

Well it says it is. I checked in control

of associations there, too. I'm sure I'm

Why indeed. TB does call my default browser over here, and I have just

Not in TB.
Probably you've the html-extension associated with netscape. You can
alter file associations in the explorer.

Default Browser

2002-05-23 Thread Ken & Marilyn

Hello,

When I receive an email with an HTML attached and I want to open it, it
opens up with something other than my default Browser. I have IE set as my
default browser but when I open an HTML document in TB! it opens it in
Netscape. Is there any place where I can set the default browser in
TB!?

In Opera you can go to: File; Preferences (Alt P); click on default
browser and change the file extensions that Opers responds to.

I hope this is of assistance.

This question was answered *twice* today.

To quote mine:
Go to Explorer, --> Tools --> Options, and replace the
.html extentions (.htm, .shtml) with IE instead of Netscape.

This is not a TB problem, but a Windows question. You must associate
.html, .shtml, .html and so on files with Netscape (ie make NS the
default browser for your system).
