Hi, I'm trying to import my mailboxes from Netscape 6, and the import

Could someone perhaps give me a hand?

I have a smiilar wit importing mail.
I was running The Bat 1.22 with my old PC (133 MHZ CPU) and there were
lots of mails in the message base (u know TBUDL mailinglist? =)

Some weeks ago I bought a AMD K6-2 400 MHZ and before I assembled a
new PC I exported all the mail in the unix format.
I checked if it works and reimported all mail.
Well, it worked fine when using the same The Bat version which i used
for exporting.

But: when importing in The Bat 1.34a, only one (!) message from
several hunders was stored and this one was even damaged.

So...if u ask me this is a general The Bat bug :}

Importing Messages

1999-11-22 Thread joshua allen r. day

I have an account at hotmail, that I import to outlook

try to import them, only a few of the 60+ messages are
imported... which really does little good on my efforts
for backing up the mail... is this a problem with TB!, or

vcard importing

2000-05-09 Thread Gord McCallum

Hi,

One of the features that I'd really like to see in TB (or know how to
use if it exists) would be the ability to import an entire directory
of .vcf (vcard) files into the address book. I use Time & Chaos to
manage my contacts (highly recommended) and I can use the mailto:
field in it to invoke The Bat, but I'd like to duplicate my contacts
in TB's address book.

As it stands now, Time and Chaos can do a mass export of all my
contacts and create individual vcards, but there are hundreds of them
and it's a bit time consuming to import each one at once.

Is there a workaround or am I missing anything?

Netscape should have an export option; you might try that, to try to

importing addresses

Hi,

I've been trying to import addresses from outlook 2000, and I've read
I should kick out the 'birthday' field, as because of it, I get an
error when opening The Bat. Anyway, so I did it all again, made a
comma seperated list in outlook and tried to import it into the bat. I
don't get e-mailaddresses, although I've matched the fields. Tried a
tab seperated file as well, same result.

What's the best/easiest way of importing addresses from outlook?

But you can copy *.msb directly to temp-folder and move messages to

Hell, I just archive up the entire mail directory. Install TB, unarchive
the mail directory. When it asks for a new account on the first run I enter
the same name as I had before. It finds the account, all settings, all
folders, everything. *that* rocks.

everything working but is there a way to get the old messages and
folders into this copy of The Bat? (I can see the old messages

Importing from YARN

2000-05-08 Thread Thomas Christensen

Hi All,

Newbie on the list alert :-)

I'm on my fifth trial day and I'm loving the program more and more. I've
importet all my mail from Outlook Express and I've figured how to do
just about everything I was missing within OE.

The only thing I havn't figured yet is how to import my old mail from
YARN (off-line dos/os/2 mail read written by Chin Huang). The Messages
in a Yarn folder is just the mails put end to end each of them starting
of with a 32bit integer (longint) giving the length of the message. I
think it's called .msg type b.

I could easily write a program that converted this to .msg (anybody know
where I can find a simple description of this format? It seems as if the
messages are just seperated by a "From " (with a space instead of
colon), is that correct?), but I wanted to check with you people first.

I've not imported from Outlook, but have exported from TB! and
back into it successfully. I use the Address Book's comma
separate format. My suggestion is to manually enter an address
into TB! with all the information you would want imported. Then
export that address into a comma separated file. Look at that
format as compared to what you're getting when working with
Outlook. I bet you'll be able to resolve the differences then and
get the address imported. Items to look at - different field
names between TB! and Outlook, strange values in a field, greatly
different field sizes.

You don't need to import it in order to send it on. You attach it to
an email. You also cannot make it part of all other mails in the
folder, as TB does not allow you to alter those mails. Only mails in
ther Outbox can be edited.

If you want to create an HTML email, you do exactly the same thing:
You create and HTML file with your preferred HTML editor, and then
attach it to an empty email.

Thank you for your response.
It's not mend to make an HTML attachment nor is it to write an HTML
eMail.

Let try to describe it a bit more precisely.
Lets take this ML as en example. Going to the Archive I find a
posting that I like to download and put it into the same folder
where I'm now. When I right click this posting and a save it it's a
  HTML file.
Importing it to TB! is impossible (as HTML). So I have probably to
make an other step in converting it to MSG or so.

You have any Idea how to proceed?

P.S. hope this explains it better ;-)

As was already written: Create a new message, attach the HTML file and
sort the message by hand into your preferred folder.

Another wy would be to strip all HTML tags from the file and save it
as a plain text file, which can be imported (if headers are present).

OK, so you have succeeded in importing it as an HTML message.

Set TB so that I does not automitically display HTML:

Options / Preferences / General / [ ] Display HTML...

needs to be unticked. When you now look at the message, you find the
message text in the preview pane, and an HTML attachment. Richt-click
on the attachment, and choose "Delete". Your message is now normal.

The format of a csv-file (Comma-Separated-Values) would be like:

Name,First Name,Street,ZIP,City,State,email
Doe,John M.,13 Sesame Street,12345,Kansas City,KS,[EMAIL PROTECTED]
...

The first line tells you and the program what the columns are (it
effectively contains column headers) and the lines after that contain
information about the persons.
So if you're good with UltraEdit or any other good text editor you may be
able to reformat your file so it becomes a valid csv format. Tab separation
works the same way.

CSV is the easiest route. Put in a row of column headings then follow
it with the address data, in rows, separating the values by commas.
Save the text as a .CSV file then start the import. The import process
includes selecting which column (and that's where the headings come in
handy) belong in which AB fields. It's all pretty straight forward
from there really.

Importing from Outlook

2002-04-09 Thread Victor Wong

Hi,

Has anyone been able to import messages from Outlook 2002 into TB 1.60c?
I would really like to use TB since Outlook is really slow with the
60,000+ message mailbox that I have. Maybe someone has gotten an older
more stable version of TB to import from Outlook? I'm getting desperate
since Outlook now takes like a minute to load on an incredibly fast
computer. Thanks!

Victor.

PS I've been reading through the list and there's this mysterious email
client called VA that's being talked about. It might not be entirely
appropriate but can anyone tell me what/where this email client is. I'm
rather intrigued by its functionality. Thanks.

importing from Eudora

2002-04-27 Thread Deborah

Hi,

I would like to import saved email messages from Eudora, but have not
been able to do so. On the drop-down menu, the Import command gives
several options, but none of them includes importing from Eudora. I
tried to use the Import Wizard, which gives the option of importing
from Eudora, but it doesn't seem to recognise Eudora's file-format
for emails. I get a message each time telling me that it didn't find
any files of the right type in the folder it's checking, & to find the
folder - but whichever Eudora folder I offer, it still gives me the
same message.

Is there something I'm supposed to do that I'm not doing? I tried
looking in Eudora for a File Export option, but there isn't one, & the
Save As doesn't offer me the choice of saving in .MSG or .UNIX format,
which are the only formats mentioned in the TB helpfile.

TIA
Deborah

I had that situation once. What I did is I changed the details of the
account from the old account (POP, SMTP settings) to the new account
and everything was still there. ;-)

L> Is there a way to allocate them all at once to the new account or
L> do i have to cut and paste them individual?

If you have already created the new account and don't need the old
account any more, just copy the messages over.

Other than that, you can make QT's to be shared with other accounts. I
forgot in which account.* file the QT's are stored.

that was my problem: how to copy them at once.

I worked it out how to copy them at once.
In "TheBat!\Mail\accountname" go to the file "account.qtn" and open it
in a texteditor. Select all and save it in the "account.qtn" of the
account you want to allocate them. Then delete the other .qtn
otherwise you'll get an error opening TB!

Every QT should be in the account. (of course, best is to save the old
.qtn as a back up incase ...)

Yes, my advise to use the old account and just change the General and
Transportation details in the account properties. Please read again
what I said before, namely that all you need to do (if you have
already created a new account) is to move the message over. You
probably do not need the new account. This way, your QT's don't need
to be copied.

Importing from Calypso

2000-11-18 Thread Doug Weller

Exported a folder and its subfolders from Calypso as a unix mailbox,
imported them to The Bat. A few no longer have any text even though,
for instance, one shows up as 2049 bytes. I presume there's nothing I
can do. Don't much care where the problem lies if I can't fix it!

Still, I might be able to live with it. Wish I could easily identify
which they were though.

He is using Eudora 5.0.

If I attempt to use TB!'s import wizard it just wants you to point to

this:

Can he send me just the Eudora folder files for me to be able to
import it in to TB!?

Further, since the messages receipient e-mail address will differ from
mine if I import them will this cause a problem?

Is there a better way to get this accomplished?

Thanks!

There is no such thing as Outlook Express 2000. It's either Outlook 2000
or Outlook Express. .pst suggests that you are trying to import from
Outlook, which TB! can't do directly. You will have to import your
messages into Outlook Express first, then into TB!

Importing Agent's address book?

Hi all!

This is my very first post to this list after buying The Bat, and I
apologize if this question has been asked (and answered) hundreds of

How do I import Agent's address book? Agent doesn't seem to export the
addresses in a format which can be directly imported.

BTW: why haven't I been told about this wonderful piece of software
before? :))

That's the problem with a new install.

That's easy.
Close TB
Make a copy of your new account, somewhere else on disk
Drag all folders and files from your 'Sandy' account to your new one
Oh and empty the trash folder after doing that
Open TB and you should have your old messages and settings back

To get your new messages back:
Tools -> Import Messages -> From .TBB files
Now point to the copy of your new inbox and you'll import the messages
downloaded with your new account. (I'm presuming that you didn't
create lots of folders and filters in your new account, if you've done
so, you'll lose them in this way.)

Yes, this format would work. I am at a loss for a specific name to it but
if you call it the unix mailbox format or mbox most crusty unixers will know
exactly what you're referring to.

Export some message you already have in TB! and look at the date, it
has the form "Wed Apr 26 17:54:00 2000" and is interpreted by TB!
1.42 as the "received time" (whereas the time from the "Date:" header
is the "creation time").

(Note: TB! 1.41, which you are still using, ignores the date in the
"From " line, this is one of the new features of 1.42)

Importing messages as HTML

2000-07-28 Thread Katsmeow

I imported a bunch of messages that I had sent using Eudora. I do not
send messages in HTML in Eudora. I send them plain text only and have
checked my Eudora settings to make sure that is so.

However, upon importing messages into TB! I find that they have HTML
formatting. The HTML formatting is not showing up like where someone
sends a message to me in HTML. That is, when I go to read one of the
messages I previously sent in Eudora, it all I see is the message with
all the HTML codes in it.

Again, this is strange since I didn't send the messages in HTML in the
first place. It also makes it impossible for me to use these messages
since they are unreadable. I need to be able to use them and read
them for various purposes. When I read the messages in Eudora they do
not appear to be in HTML nor did they appear so to those who received
them.

Any idea why this happened on importing?

Also, is there any way to strip the HTML codes out of the messages I
imported (I can do it manually but there are a lot of these messages).

This is a known issue (I'm not sure whose) and happens when a message
in the Unix version of the mailbox doesn't have the requisite blank
line between the headers and the body. The text, once imported, is
seen by TB as a continuation of the headers.

You can prove this by selecting the "blank" message and toggling the
"View kludges" option (Ctrl-Shift-K). The message body will magically
appear with the headers since that is how it has been interpreted.

DW> Still, I might be able to live with it. Wish I could easily

That may not be so easy a task unless you have a good regex text
editor to parse the unix mailbox with.

Depends. Create the accounts with the exact same names as the last

pick up the folders automatically afterwards, while in the account,
hit CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-L to find lost folders.

Reply indicator after importing

Listmembers,

This may be too much to ask, but I'm trying to find out if the
following is possible:

I've just installed The Bat! for a friend and imported his Outlook
Express mailbox (which worked beautifully). What he misses though is
the indicators on received mails that tell him whether or not he
replied to the mail.

Is there some kind of mass-mail option that we can use to get these
back and make the Open Reply (Ctrl-BkSp) feature work for these
messages.

I've managed to search for the reply-message, but that doesn't bring
the 'replied' indicator back.

Problem importing 'lost' messages

2003-08-31 Thread Nick Gordon
Any help appreciated

I re-ran filters on my Inbox (has just imprted some messages from another mail client)
and the filter deleted the lot (more work required, I think!)

Anyway, I still have intact .tbb and .tbi files in the relevant directory. I copied
thema away and tried to reimport, and I get 0 messages imported. Rebuilding (via CTRL,
ALT, SHIFT, L) doesn't have any effect either.

Any suggestions (other than opening the .tbb file in a text processor and manually
reconstructing)?

Thanks all.

Incidentally, although I'm using a beta, I'm starting on the assumption that this is
my screw-up rather than a beta problem; that's why I'm posting to the main list rather
than the beta list.

Importing Messages (Unix file)

2002-02-08 Thread Dave Goodman

I'm importing messages from another system into TB!. Mostly it has
gone smoothly, using the Unix message format.

However, the last files imported , when displayed in the TB! MESSAGE
LIST, show almost all of the messages dated at the date/time of
import, rather than the correct message creation date/time. When a
single message is displayed in the MESSAGE VIEW, the timestamp is
always:

Sat, 30 Dec 1899 00:00:00 ()

An examination of the Unix file with a text editor shows the format to
be correct, with the original date/timestamps in place. Further, the
file imports correctly into several other programs which accept the
Unix file format.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Importing Messages from Pegasus

2002-04-08 Thread GJim

Howdy Ladies and Gents,

I have a huge number of old EMail messages in Pegasus format. I have
been able to import old messages from some of the Pegasus accounts
(those with a small number of messages). However, the import routine
chokes on the one account that has probably 30,000+ messages. When I
attempt to import, the routine just keeps going back to the screen
where I am supposed to point to the Pegasus account folder(s).

I would attempt to break up the messages into smaller groups, but I
can't even run Pegasus anymore. I keep getting a run-time error every
time I try to start it.

Has anyone else had problems importing large numbers of Pegasus
messages? Any ideas on how I can import these messages into TB!

There's nothing mysterious about Virtual Access (VA)! It's probably
more well known amongst CIX (a british conferencing service) or
Compuserve users. It has existed in various guises (Wigwam, Teepee,
PowWow and VA) for over ten years. Aside from being an excellent OLR
for CIX and CIS it is also a very capable mail and news client. It can
handle an essentially unlimited number of mail accounts and
newsservers. It's main strengths are excellent threading and very
robust handling of a large messagebase. My VA messagebase is, for
example, about 2 GB and the programme is as fast and stable as it was
the day I installed it about seven years ago. I have heard of others
with messagebases of over 8 GB. Sadly, VA has not been actively
developed for over two years now and does not support stuff like
outgoing HTML mail, Unicode, yEnc encoding etc. but otherwise it is
fully functional for good old-fashioned mail and news. Hence the
influx of bemused VA users recently infesting this forum. There are
rumours that at least parts of VA may be made open sorce at some point
but, as yet, it is not certain if or when that will happen. You can take a look
here at http://www.atlantic-coast.com/va/ if you're interested.

Very good summary about VA, except for the quoted statement. Last VA

Yes, but the operative word in my statement is "actively". The
beta team had had build 315 a good many months before it was
officially released (Sept. 2000) and Pete had only made very minor
tweaks for a year or so before that. My memory could be wrong of course.

Speak for yourself. I'm definitely bemused - but that may have nothing
to do with TB or VA!

Your reply reminded me of a little wishlist item I have for TB:

It would be good if TB recognised the common forms of emphasis like
_underscores_, *asterisks* and /slashes/ and subtituted these for
underlined, bold and italic respectively. I believe there are other
mailers that are capable of this .

Re: importing from Eudora

2002-04-27 Thread Joseph N.

I can't help with the direct import function, which ought to work, and
with which others will probably be able to help. But I can suggest
two alternatives, both using another program, Mailbag Assistant (from
Fookes Software).

Mailbag Assistant can import Eudora's mailboxes. From that point, you
would have two choices.

If you want to wind up with the mail being imported into The Bat!,
then from Mailbag Assistant export the mail (File/Export) into a
"generic mailbox." That is a Unix format. From there, import into
TB! (Tools/Import/Unix).

Alternatively (and, in my mind, preferably), if your interest is
keeping the mail for archive purposes and not to be using it regularly
for replies, etc., then either export from Mailbag Assistant into a
Unix (generic) mailbox or save as a Mailbag Assistant archive format
and leave it there. You can append future messages to the archived
file through Mailbag Assistant if you buy that program, or through TB!
if the archive is a Unix formatted mailbox. TB! can even filter mail
into a Unix-style mailbox. This would keep the TB! mailboxes smaller,
which for this particular program is less of a concern than for many
other email programs; it will also make it easier in the future if you
change mail programs.

This is a known problem with 1.60c that appears to be fixed in 1.60h.
Given the S/MIME problems reported in 1.60h, I will not be installing
that. I do know that 1.53t worked just fine, and I'm considering

This is not a problem. TB receives the messages and then imports them
into the mailbase via the sorting office and at that point executes
any filters you may have set up. There's nothing to worry about. It's
just doing what it should :-).

What you have to do is have Outlook export the Contacts in a way that
TB! can import them. It would be almost impossible for TB! to be able to
import directly from every known Mail Client.

Go to Outlook/Contacts... and export in either a comma separated or tab
separated file, then have TB! import them in a similar fashion. Open
TB!'s AB and go to File/Import, and take a look at what is available.
You may have to fool around a bit with the values that you are wanting
to import, such as address, phone, name, etc., etc.

This will convert from Outlook Express *.wab format not Outlook, first
import to OE from OL to use the convertor. Additionally the pst-wab
conversion will not take place in OE if OL is used in Internet Mode
Only, it will only work if OL is used in corporate mode.

MS certainly don't encourage you to change MUA's, there are people
forced to use OE if they have a Microsoft Network account, as the

When I installed TB! on a friend's computer, I exported

Why not MIME forward the messages? Double click on one of the

Why? Because there are dozens of messages that he does not want to
