whatever works. When I took it out of the DDE branch it wouldn't
work when you clicked a mailto: link while the Bat! was open. At first
I got error messages too taking out of the command branch ("default
mail client not installed correctly") but they turned out to be
related to the Bat checking whether or not it was default.

Are you using SP_1 or SP_2? I ask because I have not had the

  different @ this end.

YES!!! VICTORY!!! That was exactly the problem; now
the Bat works
perfectly. No more contemplating which email client to
stick with. If
anybody else has this problem, here are the specifics
of what to do:

1. Go into Options-->Preferences and click on the
"Applications" Tab.
Associate the Bat as the mailto: handler and UNSELECT
"Check that the
Bat! is default mail client at startup." (The program
likes to undo
the "fix")

2. Run regedit and go to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command.
Take the %1 out of the "Default" value.

Cheers to Marck for finding the solution. I am now a
happier person.

PS: does anybody know of any more alternate port SMTP
servers? I was using mochamail but they seem to be
having trouble lately. I finally get the Bat! working
perfectly and I can't use it. just my luck.

Hello Marck,

MDP> Hmm. Good(ish) question, and although I can tell you where to look,

This is the content of the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open"
registry part of my installation and it works perfectly (Win98SE).

You can compare/incorporate the changes with regedit. Just choose
Start/Run ... and then type regedit.

Note: You can damage your system permanently by changing the registry.

Now that you mention it, I wonder why I have not had problems before!
I think a space is actually %20. However, previous versions of TB,
Novell's GroupWise 4-5.5, and IE have all worked just fine. It just
started having problems when TB started opening 2 mail editors when
clicking the MailTo: link.

Basically, yes. Every single mailto: link does it. I've tried many
other email clients and they all work perfectly when I click on a
mailto: link, i.e. Calypso, Poco, Eudora, even (bleh) Outlook.

This could be the answer! Unforturnately, I don't have a clue about
what you're talking about. How do I check for DDE and %1?

Thanks,

That didn't change the behavior here. Normal the new message shows up
behind my Browser - IE (which I always thought odd, but not enough to
pursue it). Now the one with the malformed subject is behind IE, and
the one that is correct lands on top (which is nice).

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure the Bat! is registered
correctly as the default mail client and I still get two new
messages.

If it helps, I'm running win2k w/ SP1 and apparently I'm
using the second version of 1.53bis (June 14).
