Re: [Tex-music] New PMX beta 2.622: All sorts of transposition, with MIDI too
Anything is possible, but some things are trickier than others. At the moment, my thinking is (1) I'll add in some fairly explicit error messages for this situation; (2) this will only affect a tiny fraction of the already small number of people using PMX, and (3) anyone whom it does affect will have been recompiling an old PMX source, an act only performed by people familiar with the whole PMX process, and therefore people who can easily make the necessary adjustment to the source file once the error message tells them what the problem is. By the way, after learning about this, I checked the AS command, for changing sizes of different staves. It also requires a sequence of specifiers which up to now were advertised to be per staff. For consistency the MIDI changes, they should instead also be per instrument. I had never checked this with any multi-staff instruments and no one has ever complained. But having checked it now, I found out that it doesn't really work as advertised; it does read in nv characters, but if there are multi-staff instruments, it applies the specifier for the lowest staff to all the staves of the instrument. So I'm planning to make this one also per instrument, with a similar explicit error message if too many chaqracters are input. --Don >-Original Message- >From: TeX-Music [mailto:tex-music-boun...@tug.org] On Behalf Of Bob Tennent >Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2013 11:11 AM >To: Werner Icking Music Archive >Subject: Re: [Tex-music] New PMX beta 2.622: All sorts of transposition, with MIDI >too > > >|Now that you mention this, the same issue applies to MIDI > >|velocities, balances, and transpositions. Re: [Tex-music] New PMX beta 2.622: All sorts of transposition, with MIDI too
Good catch, Luigi! Now that you mention this, the same issue applies to MIDI velocities, balances, and transpositions. My excuse is that as I worked out the transposition issues, I wanted to do it consistently by instruments rather than staves. Other than going back to the old way (which I don't really want to do), all I can think of is to put more information in the PMX-generated error message, and add some warnings to the documentation. Any other suggestions? --Don >-Original Message- >From: TeX-Music [mailto:tex-music-boun...@tug.org] On Behalf Of Luigi Cataldi >Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2013 2:39 AM >To: tex-music@tug.org >Subject: Re: [Tex-music] New PMX beta 2.622: All sorts of transposition, with MIDI >too > >On Mon, 18 Mar 2013 23:02:27 -0700 >Don Simons wrote: > >> I've just uploaded a new PMX beta to >> >> http://icking-music-archive.org/software/pmx/pmx2622.zip >> >> I would VERY much appreciate people experimenting with the kinds of >> situations explained in the tutorial, and any other transposition/key-change >> situations you can think of, and report back on the mailing list with bug >> reports, questions, errors in the tutorial, or suggestions. >> > >My replay comes late, sorry. > >I'm very glad for the new version! >But I see that when there is an instrument written on two staves, like piano, in the >previous versions of PMX you need to insert two midi instruments, e.g. "It92ipipi", >whilst in pmx2622 you have to insert just one midi instrument ("It92ipi"). I'm very glad for the new version! But I see that when there is an instrument written on two staves, like piano, in the previous versions of PMX you need to insert two midi instruments, e.g. "It92ipipi", whilst in pmx2622 you have to insert just one midi instrument ("It92ipi"). I've tested the new version with a lot of scores: the program worked properly in all cases exept for this little piece of G.M. Thanks to Hermann and Christian for the reports. The file test.mtx went through with no errors for me in Windows XP (and Hermann, it looks very nice!). I'm at home and my only Linux systems (Redhat 6.0) are at the office so I can't check what happens with that. --Don Simons >-Original Message- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >On Behalf Of Hermann Hinsch >Sent: Friday, December 05, 2008 5:34 AM >To: Werner Icking Music Archive >Subject: Re: [TeX-Music] New PMX Beta 2.517 > >Am Freitag, 5. At first glance, to allow a maximum of two lines of figures would be less new work than to allow an arbitrary number of lines of figures. FYI what makes this tricky is that for every system and for each staff within that system with figures, there is a baseline vertical offset to align the tops of the figures for that staff and system only. If two staves in the system have figures, there are two independent offsets for that system. But those offsets cannot be calculated until all of the system breaks are set. That doesn't happen until very near the end of all the analysis---so near the end in fact that I decided to include the entire list of vertical offsets explicitly in a macro near the top of the generated musixtex file. Since TeX does not support subscripts, I defined a second variable in TeX to represent the second offset, and two new pairs of macros to use the two different offsets. If figures' vertical positioning were like ornaments or dynamics, it could be done locally on the fly and would be much easier. --Don Simons ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://mailman.nfit.au.dk/mailman/listinfo/icking-music-archive.org-tex-music

The only change is that I've allowed figures (for figured bass) in the 2nd staff from the bottom, in addition to and independent of those in the bottom staff. This has necessitated a few changes in pmx.tex. I'd especially appreciate some testing from folks with existing scores that include figures, to be sure I haven't messed anything up. Unfortunately I have a score with figures in the 3rd staff of a score which I included by using inline-TeX as Diana and you suggested in a former mail. As far as I can see from pmx.tex you inserted new lines 219 to 222, 250, and 260-261. Would it be possible to expand this to the 3rd staff? or better, any other additional staff -- Christian Mondrup, Archive Editor WIMA: Werner Icking Music Archive http://icking-music-archive.org/ ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://mailman.nfit.au.dk/mailman/listinfo/icking-music-archive.org-tex-music

Re: [TeX-Music] New PMX Beta, Version 2.515
Two housekeeping issues: 1. There was a formatting problem in the source file pmx2515.for included in my original upload of pmx2515.zip (Thanks to Christian for pointing it out). I corrected it and silently replaced the file the next day. If you were a first-day adopter, you may want to download the fixed-up version. The original windows binary was OK and hasn't been changed. 2. I just activated links on the software page to bugfix version 0.60c of M-Tx . I deleted the links to the two prior bugfix versions but the files are still there and accessible by browsing the S/W directory. --Don Simons > -Original Message- > From: Don Simons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Saturday, December 22, 2007 3:54 PM > To: 'Werner Icking Music Archive' > Subject: New PMX Beta, Version 2.515 > > I've just uploaded a new PMX beta to > > http://icking-music-archive.org/software/pmx/pmx2515.zip > > It contains two bug fixes I'll tell you about, and a few others I won't > bore you with. > > 1.
