Ellie,

Thanks for agreeing t9 handle the elections. We all appreciate everything you
do for the TSA.

The one point I would add is the need for multiple candidates for each
position. The more candidates we have to choose from the better the platforms!

Thanks for the reminder, Ron!

I've already seen our entire slate of nomination for officer (thanks,

There have been a lot of nominations, but, also a lot of refusals.

(We can't be doing that good of a job, can we? Or is the job perceived
as too tough or are cavers in Texas much too apathetic? I hope not.)

Anyway, continue nominating and, if you did refuse the nomination
initially, please reconsider.

Finally, I would like to re-run Ellie's excellent post from August as to
other positions in the TSA that we need YOU for!

Thanks,

serving on a volunteer committee by sharing ideas and helping with
responsibilities. It's so much easier when we all work together.

Some volunteer committees already have excellent, active chairs
(Publications, Safety, Projects) but please give any and all volunteer
committee chair ideas to Mark Alman and he can approach them off list.

The following are non-elected committee chair:

   - Publication Committee Chair
   - Safety and Techniques Committee Chair
   - Conservation Committee Chair
   - Membership Committee Chair
   - Projects Coordinator

The TSA can always use new members and welcomes back previous members so
please consider joining TSA http://www.cavetexas.org/PAYPAL/index.php at

Thanks for the announcement, Ron, and a HUGE thanks for volunteering (after a
lot of sucking up by yours truly!) to, yet again, head up the
Nomination/Election Committee for the TSA.

Now, this is where the rest of you come in: NOMINATE SOMEONE, INCLUDING
YOURSELVES!

There's a lot of talent, knowledge, and competent cavers in the Lone Star State
who could bring a lot to the TSA.

As in the last few years, when we only have one candidate for each officer
position, it tells me it could be one of the three reasons below:

1.) The officers are doing such a great job that one feels they couldn't do a
better job. (Speaking for the Chairman position, Yeah, right!).

2.) The responsibilities are so intimidating that you don't want to run. (With
the exception of Vice-Chair and Treasurer, I say, Yeah, right! Sorry,
Denise!).

3.) Or, the worst reason: You don't care!

Show how much you care by nominating and/or running!

[Texascavers] TSA elections

2009-10-12 Thread Ron Ralph
Cavers,

Going to TCR? Don’t for get to vote for officers. There will be ballots and
a ballot box at registration for your convenience and a last chance to vote
at the meeting on Sunday morning. You will be voting the following slate:

Sample Ballot (for the October 18, 2009 election)

□Chairman Mark Alman NSS #
43400

□Vice Chairman Ellie Thoene NSS #
60439

□Treasurer Darla BishopNSS #
56375

□Secretary Denise Prendergast NSS #
48638

□Floor nomination

□Write in vote

What? You will not be at TCR? The bylaws require that all members of the
association be allowed to vote so here is how it works. I will
electronically mail each current member (except the 9 without an address) a
note that asks you to write me if you wish to vote but will not attend TCR.
I will mail out ballots on Monday, October 19 to only those who have
expressed an interest in voting. Hopefully this will lighten the postage
bill and still allow folks the opportunity to vote in the election.

Ron Ralph, Elections Committee Chair

From the Constitution and By-laws:

B. There are two types of elections: regular (the annual election of
Officers) and special.

1. Regular elections are to be held each year at or near the fall meeting
by mail-in secret ballot or other similar process to elect officers.

a. The TSA Chair shall appoint an Elections Committee chair, who will chose
other committee members, to present a slate of candidates to the Membership,
prepare and distribute ballots, and tabulate and announce election results.

b. The temporary Elections Committee is dissolved when the new officers
take office. In the event of the loss of all four officers, the previous
Election Committee chair shall assume charge of the TSA while a new slate of
officers is properly nominated and elected (see Special Elections below).

c. Officer nominations may be made by any TSA member. Provisions will be
made on ballots for write-in candidates. If a TSA member is nominated for
more than one office, that candidate must choose to run for only one of the
offices. All nominations must be announced in official TSA publications as
least 30 days before ballots are distributed.

d. Ballots must be counted by at least four TSA members in good standing.
Results will be announced in official TSA publications within 10 working
days of the election deadline.

e. In the event of a tie, the candidates with equal votes may choose
between themselves who will remain in office and who will concede. If no
agreement can be reached, a special election will be held to resolve the
tie, until one candidate has a majority of the votes.

This is the last call for nominations. Let me know if you are interested or
know someone who would make a fine officer.

Cavers,

Election of officers for 2010 will be held at TCR, probably Sunday, October
18th (to be finalized later). President Mark Alman appointed me Elections
Committee Chair to fill a slate for the four offices. This is the first call
for interested candidates. You must be a member of both the Texas
Speleological Association and the National Speleological Society to hold
office. Please respond to me off-line if you are interested in serving. And
if you are not interested but think you know someone who would do a good job
let me know and I will twist their arm to run.

Write if you have questions or suggestions to help me fill the slate. And
pass this on to others who may not subscribe to the list.

[Texascavers] TSA Elections / Call for nominations

2007-09-27 Thread John P Brooks
Greetings Texas Cavers, TSA Members and residents of the Center of the Caving
Universe ( aka TEXAS);

Its that time of year again! Its time for the TSA officer elections. Between
now and TCR; I ask each of you to think about who you think would be a great
TSA officer. Please nominate the caver in your grotto who always seems to know
how to rally the troops for a dig, or a caving trip or a survey trip.
Nominate those cavers that know how to get things done. Please nominate someone
that you know who wants to support and contribute to the caving community. This
is a fantastic opportunity to make caving in Texas better than it already
is. Please nominate your fellow cavers to be a TSA officer!

  The positions are:

  1. Chairman

  2. Vice Chairman

  3. Secretary

  4. Treasurer

There are, of course, varying responsibilities, with each position. But these
offices provide a great opportunity to support a great organization and give
back to the caving community. In addition, you will get to know your fellow
cavers much better by running for an office and by servingand every
position comes with the added benefit of being invited on lots of caving trips!

I have enjoyed the last two years of being Chairman. But I am not seeking
re-election because of other professional and volunteer commitments. And I
believe that as an organization, the TSA will be healthier when our leadership
base is continually replenished with a refreshed enthusiasm. In addition to
getting to know many cavers around the state better, I have particularly
enjoyed the numerous inquiries I received as Chairman from landowners with
caves on thier property and others interested in caves. It reminded me of the
great curiousity that many people have about caves and caving. And I might
add...this was a great unexpected benefit of being an officer! Cave leads! (
and no...none of them turned into anything significant...but you never
know...unless you look )

Please send me your nominations for these off list at your earliest
convenience. If there are questions about the responsibilities for any of these
positions; please ask, and I will gladly provide additional detail. I look
forward to hearing from each of you.

  John Brooks
  TSA Chairman 2007

Greetings, cavers. For those of you who have not yet sent back your
ballot for TSA officers, I urge you to do so soon. I also encourage you
all to vote for Kara Dittmer for Vice-Chair. Kara is very capable and
enthusiastic, and I look forward to working with her on Spring
Convention and other TSA activities in the upcoming year.

In the interest of disclosure, I must also admit that I am the other
candidate for Vice-Chair, but frankly, I'm voting for Kara.
