I concur with Don, Dave. Suck it up and nip 'em! As John Brooks can attest to, those of us who are "folically-challenged" and shave our heads usually encounter this at first. I used to have a couple of moles on my head that proved to be a detriment to shaving. After a couple of early morning shavings and not being quite awake and alert, I would accidentally plane them down and they would bleed for a while. The problem has now taken care of itself and they no longer exist. C'mon! Live dangerously and always use a Mach III and a little TP. Think of the $$ you'll save. That'll buy quite a few lights! That did hurt for a while but only because it was a protracted 'wound' until it finally crusted up and I yanked the rest of it off with a pair of tweezers. The other two or three, I cut off with small diagonal cutters ('dikes' or wire cutters). Actually, using wire tools to cut skin off your body without anesthetics is exhilarating! You think it's really REALLY going to hurt, but almost as a bodily over-compensation - you'll probably feel quite a rush of endorphins afterwards. I plan to not post very much over the next 4 months. I am trying to finish my associates degree at Houston Community College. I am taking "Comparative World Literature" at night, and that should complete my degree. I haven't worked since about August 6th. It is a really bad idea to tell your boss to take a hike, before you have any idea where you are going to work - especially when you have a toddler, a house mortgage, a new car payment and a grouchy wife. Some people are just too hard-headed and stubborn and have to learn the hard way. My job went down the drain fairly quickly. My boss got demoted from supervising about 50 people in the company to about 4 people, just a few hours before I handed him my resignation. He was one of the best people I ever worked with and in my opinion appeared to be one of only 3 people in the company that seemed to have a clue what was going on. The problem seemed to be my boss's boss and maybe his boss. It was a small company owned by a guy from Hungary or Romania who seldom came out of his office. That guy seemed nice, but I couldn't understand him the first time and only time I ever talked to him. I introduced myself to him as something like "que paso," or something really embarrassing, as I thought he was one of the Mexican machinist in the shop.I think I even tried to given him a Mexican handshake. If anybody cares, e-mail me and I will tell you more about it. I will be post-poning buying gadgets or going on road-trips until 2009. I don't know if I will go to TCR this year - probably just the chow. David Locklear

It is really hard to go to the movie and not drink a soda. Or is that just me?I thought the movie was over-rated and some of the CGI in the movie was just a little too far fetched. It seemed obvious that there will be at least one more sequel if not 2 more. It was $ 18.50 for my wife and I to attend the movie. Maybe that is why I didn't enjoy it. [ot_caving] personal - medical
Someone recently mentioned that it sucks getting old. Friday after work, I would have liked to have loaded up the car and gone on a 3 day road trip. Instead, I spent the late afternoon at a clinic. I had to get a CAT scan of my abdominal area. The hardest part of the exam, was I don't give blood easily, and as usual it took several needles to get it. One of the needles under the knuckle was the most painful of the bunch. Then they made me drink almost a quart of liquid that was similar to Kaopectate, except it tasted a little like drinking paint. I was told that the radiation I received was equivalent to the normal radiation I would receive over a 3 year period. So, I guess I need to go underground for a while to hide from the solar rays. The doctor should get the results today. I have an annoying pain in the left colon area. I think it is a pulled muscle. The bad news so far, is that my insurance paid only paid $ 150 of the the $ 1,200 exam. There goes my LED light budget for the next few months. My only other news, is that I have not had a drop of carbonated water in 5 months. I am fighting my addiction to Dr. Pepper, Coca Cola, etc. I saw the Indiana Jones movie this weekend. [ot_caving] personal thoughts on LED headlamps
Here is a headlamp that some cavers have been using for about 3 years now. It is fully submersible, durable, and bright. I used the non LED version of this light several years ago on a very wet caving trip and it did great. And I used a flashlight with the same LED configuration and it also worked great. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P1K3LU http://www.opticsplanet.net/pelican-headsup-lite-2680-recoil-led-flashlight.html The drawback to this headlamp is that you can not dim the light. Another is that all the weight is on the front of the helmet. And it is a lot bigger than many of the other LED headlamps. If you are going to a very wet cave where you will be in rappeling in waterfalls, swimming, and ducking under short sumps, I would prefer this headlamp over all others. But, for a regular caving trip, a caver would be better off with Pelican's other headlamp, the 2630: http://www.monstronix.com/pl2630si-p-320731.html I have a $ 19 lamp sold under the name Cyclops ( purchased at Gander Mountain ), and I believe it is the exact same Chinese made headlamp. This is a great headlamp, and the most practical choice I have seen so far.
