Why France is America's true
friend

MIAMI -- Watching American TV can be a
surreal experience. Sandwiched between ads for instant weight loss products,
predigested fast food, and incontinence panties, cable TV commentators bay like
rabid dogs for war against Iraq, and subject nations daring to oppose President
Bush's crusade to venomous abuse or sneering disdain. France, which
speaks with the strongest, most logical voice of those opposing war, has become
the special target of vituperation and hatred in America's leading
neo-conservative media - Fox TV, the Wall Street Journal, New York Post - and
the Bush administration's bete noire. Particularly so, now that France, Germany,
and Russia vow to veto U.S. attempts to ram a war-enabling resolution through
the UN Security Council. France, many Americans claim, should do
whatever Washington orders out of gratitude for the U.S. "saving" it in two
world wars. U.S. television features angry veterans standing in American
military cemeteries in Normandy, denouncing France for "stabbing America in the
back" - as if invading Iraq to grab its oil and crushing Israel's enemies had
anything to do with World War II. Few flag-waving pundits mention
America sat out almost 40% of WWII until attacked by Japan. In 1940, the German
armed forces were the equivalent of the U.S. armed forces today - a full
military generation ahead of other nations. France's entire army was destroyed
in battle by the invincible Germans; had the U.S. fought Germany in 1940, it too
would have been routed. The Soviet Union, not the U.S., defeated Germany,
destroying over 100 Nazi divisions. So enough with all the bombast about
Word War II. In the eyes of Europeans and most of the world, George Bush's
administration looks dangerously aggressive, dominated as it is by petrohawks
and neo-conservative ideologues linked to Israel's far right. These little
Mussolinis have no time for diplomacy or multi-nationalism. No wonder a recent
Pew Research poll found that formerly favourable ratings of the U.S. have
plummeted in 19 of 27 nations surveyed. It seems at times that President
Bush is even more eager to bomb Paris than Baghdad. In fact, the administration
has been treating France like an enemy, rather than America's oldest ally and
intimate friend. Neo-conservatives even accuse France of anti-Semitism, a
disgusting slander. Doing the right thing Far from being
an enemy, France has been doing what a true good friend should do: telling
Washington its policy is wrong and dangerous, unlike the handkissing leaders of
Britain, Spain and Italy, who crave Bush's political support, or the East
European coalition of the shilling, ex-communist politicians pandering to
Washington for cash. Seventy percent of British, and 90% of Italians and
Spaniards oppose Bush's crusade. France's President Jacques Chirac
speaks for an overwhelming majority of Europeans and, indeed, the world's
people, in urging the U.S. to opt for diplomacy and UN inspections over a war
that will not be worth the loss of a single American soldier, not to mention
tens of thousands of Iraqis and chaos across Mesopotamia. So, too, warns the
great and wise Pope John Paul II. The contrast between France's reasoned
diplomatic response and Bush's belligerent behaviour could not be more stark. As
is the dignified, logical tone set by President Chirac and Foreign Minister
Dominique de Villepin compared to the bullying, low-brow, locker-room talk
issuing from the White House that has seriously damaged America's reputation and
image around the globe. Last week Turkey's new parliament, chosen in the
first truly democratic election in memory, followed Europe, courageously
rejecting Washington's bribes and demands that U.S. ground forces be allowed to
attack Iraq from Turkish territory. Washington's churlish response - withdrawing
its bribes, threatening punishment - contrasted curiously to Bush's claims his
goal in Iraq is bringing democracy to the Mideast. Democracy, its seems, is fine
so long as it does U.S. bidding. Inconveniently, Turkey's people and democratic
government voted a resounding no to war. How long the Turks can resist intense
pressure from the U.S. and its friends, Turkey's hard right generals, remains to
be seen. Bush's crusade against Iraq will go on with or without Turkey.
The war will be akin to throwing a grenade into a huge hornet's nest. France,
which lives next to the Arab world and has 5 million Muslim citizens, warns an
invasion and occupation of Iraq will roil the entire region, spark more
terrorism, and hit Europe with a dangerous backblast. But Bush couldn't care
less, as he would say. While Bush prepares war against demolished Iraq,
he is ducking the surging nuclear confrontation with North Korea, which, unlike
Iraq, truly threatens North America. Outrageous dereliction of duty over Korea

Concerns About The Undecided Six to be
Seduced By Pascal
Riche La Liberation
 Saturday 6 March 2003
The weekend promises to be a great moment in the
history of "checkbook diplomacy''. Six countries, non-permanent members of the
Security Council, "undecided'' have rejected the American war's logic. But their
position could change in exchange for concessions. Washington needs to convince
five of the six to obtain the nine vote majority necessary for the adoption of a
Security Council resolution. For his part, Dominique de Villepin will be
visiting Angola, Cameroon, and Guinea in the next few days to defend the French
position.
Guinea - More money and fewer human rights
Guinea, which presides over the Security Council
this month, is one of the 15 poorest countries on the planet. Ties with the
former French colonial power have become quite distant since independence in
1958. As far as aid is concerned, the United States comes in first, ahead even
of France, with 50 million dollars a year. The majority of the population is
Muslim, but the war with Iraq is not the principle preoccupation of public
opinion. Last month, Washington and London sent emissaries to Conakry. There,
they promised President Lansana Conte an aid increase, notably to treat the
problem of 300,000 Liberian and Sierra Leonese refugees. To get Guinea's vote,
Washington (or Paris) could promise to close their eyes to the human rights
situation.
 Angola - Oil Contract Blackmail
Up till now, Angola has held the line against
Washington, which is surprising given the extent this country depends
economically on the United States. It is emerging from a 27 year civil war.
Several million refugees live in precarious conditions. It is one of the most
corrupt countries in the world: nearly a billion dollars of aid money disappear
there every year. Angola is the sixth U.S. oil supplier (ahead of Kuwait) and
does not care to see that position jeopardized. American investments sustain the
economy. Exxon Mobil concluded a three billion dollar contract. Washington
accords 90 million dollars a year in aid to the country, which could be reduced
in the case of a "no'' or increased in the case of a "yes''. Moreover, Angola
hopes to access AGOA (Africa Growth and Opportunity Act) benefits, an American
commercial preference system for Africa, refused for Luanda up till now because
of the human rights situation.
 Mexico - Immigration Agreement Suspended
Legislative elections are coming up and the very
great majority of voters are against the war. But 80 % of Mexico's foreign trade
is with its big northern neighbor. Moreover, Mexico is waiting for the United
States to agree to sign a treaty that will clarify immigration issues and
regularize illegal Mexican immigrants. President Fox calls for Washington and
Paris to compromise: a delay of the war until month-end, along with an ultimatum
to Saddam.
 Chili - Free-Trade Agreement Hostage
President Lagos has made speeches in favor of peace.
But Chili has been very discrete about its voting intentions. European diplomats
fear that "if the Mexicans give in to Washington, the Chileans will follow''.
America's principal lever to induce Santiago's compliance is trade: the American
Congress has still not given the green light to an important free trade
agreement with the United States.
 Cameroon - Bartered Commercial Assistance
President Paul Biya is not interested in quarrelling
with Paris, which accords his country substantial aid, but he is afraid to turn
his back on the world's superpower. The American ambassador called on him to
prepare a "prestige visit'' to Washington. But the United States may also
threaten to reduce the commercial ties with this country. African countries have
no right to AGOA's commercial preference system unless they avoid participation
in activities harmful to the national security of the United States or its
foreign policy.
Pakistan - Kashmir in the Balance
Pakistan has received large amounts of American aid
as thanks for its support in the war against terrorism. President Pervez
Musharraf clearly has a strategy of tightening his bonds with the world's
superpower. But the Muslim Pakistani population is very hostile to a war against
Iraq, which will strengthen the hand of Islamic extremists. Politically
therefore, Musharraf has an interest in holding the line against Bush. But
Islamabad fears that if it doesn't support the U.S., the American scales will
tip towards its hereditary enemy, India, in the Kashmir crisis.

Let them hate us, so long as they fear us...--The Great Dictator~Bush

2003-03-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This truly speaks volumes about King Georges attitude
toward those Nations who will not Back the U.S. in a war. For those who remember
what the King said about it being a Dictatorship, as long as he was the
Dictator, He truly believes this about himself...Of course the U.S. media is its
usual silent self.

Let Them Hate as Long as They
Fear Paul
Krugman New York Times | Opinion
 Friday 7 March 2003
Why does our president condone the swaggering and
contemptuous approach to our friends and allies this administration is
fostering, including among its most senior officials? Has 'oderint dum metuant'
really become our motto?" So reads the resignation letter of John Brady
Kiesling, a career diplomat who recently left the Foreign Service in protest
against Bush administration policy.
"Oderint dum metuant" translates, roughly, as "let
them hate as long as they fear." It was a favorite saying of the emperor
Caligula, and may seem over the top as a description of current U.S. policy. But
this week's crisis in U.S.-Mexican relations - a crisis that has been
almost ignored north of the border - suggests that it is a perfect
description of George Bush's attitude toward the world.
Mexico is an enormously important ally, not
just because of our common border, but also because of its special role as a
showcase for American ideals. For a century and a half Mexico has - often
with good reason - seen its powerful neighbor as an exploiter, if not an
outright enemy. Since the first Bush administration, however, the United States
has made great efforts to treat Mexico as a partner, and Mexico's recent track
record of economic stability and democracy is, and should be, a source of pride
on both sides of the border.
But Mexico's seat on the U.N. Security Council gives
it a vote on the question of Iraq and the threats the Bush
administration has made to get that vote are quickly destroying any semblance of
good will.
Last week The Economist quoted an American
diplomat who warned that if Mexico didn't vote for a U.S. resolution it could
"stir up feelings" against Mexicans in the United States. He compared the
situation to that of Japanese-Americans who were interned after 1941, and
wondered whether Mexico "wants to stir the fires of jingoism during a
war."

Incredible stuff, but easy to dismiss as long as the diplomat was
unidentified. Then came President Bush's Monday interview with Copley News
Service. He alluded to the possibility of reprisals if Mexico didn't vote
America's way, saying, "I don't expect there to be significant retribution from
the government" - emphasizing the word "government." He then went on to
suggest that there might, however, be a reaction from other quarters, citing "an
interesting phenomena taking place here in America about the French . . .. a
backlash against the French, not stirred up by anybody except the
people."
And Mr. Bush then said that if Mexico or other countries oppose
the United States, "there will be a certain sense of
discipline."
These remarks went virtually unreported by the ever-protective U.S. media,
but they created a political firestorm in Mexico. The White House has been
frantically backpedaling, claiming that when Mr. Bush talked of "discipline" he
wasn't making a threat. But in the context of the rest of the interview, it's
clear that  he was.
Moreover, Mr. Bush was disingenuous when he described
the backlash against the French as "not stirred up by anybody except the
people." On the same day that the report of his interview appeared, The
Financial Times carried the headline, "Hastert Orchestrates Tirade Against the
French." That's Dennis Hastert, the speaker of the House of Representatives. In
fact, anti-French feeling has been carefully fomented by Republican officials,
Rupert Murdoch's media empire and other administration allies. Can you blame
Mexicans for interpreting Mr. Bush's remarks as a threat to do the same to
them?
So oderint dum metuant it is. I could talk
about the foolishness of such blatant bullying - or about the incredible
risks, in a multiethnic, multiracial society, of even hinting that one might
encourage a backlash against Hispanics. And yes, I mean Hispanics, not Mexicans:
once feelings are running high, do you really think people will politely ask a
brown-skinned guy with an accent whether he is a citizen or, if not, which
country he comes from?
But my most intense reaction to this story isn't anger
over the administration's stupidity and irresponsibility, or even dismay over
the casual destruction of hard-won friendships. No, when I read an interview in
which the U.S. president sounds for all the world like a B-movie villain -
"You have relatives in Texas, yes?" - what I feel, above all, is
shame.

US refuses to comment on report of 'dirty tricks' to win UN vote on Iraq

US refuses to comment on report of 'dirty tricks' to win UN vote on
Iraq

  Photo: AFP
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States
steadfastly refused to comment on a report it is waging a secret "dirty tricks"
campaign against UN Security Council members to win votes for a resolution
opening the way for war against Iraq.
Neither the White House nor the State Department would be drawn into making
any statement on the report in London's Observer newspaper that said it had
obtained a document detailing US surveillance of the home and office telephones
and e-mails of UN delegates.
"The administration never comments on anything involving any people involved
in intelligence," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said. "The administration
does not answer questions of that nature."
At the State Department, spokesman Richard Boucher repeatedly declined to
respond to questions about the report and stayed mum even when asked if he could
deny it.
"It doesn't matter what the paper is or whether it's true or not, I wouldn't
have any comment on that kind of allegation," he told reporters.
"I would not have any comment whatsoever on that kind of question or
allegation because we never comment on intelligence matters, and I'm not going
to do it now," Boucher said.
The paper said the disclosures were made in a memorandum written by a top
official at the National Security Agency (NSA), the US body which intercepts
communications around the world, and circulated to senior agents in his
organization and to a friendly foreign intelligence agency.
The memo describes orders to staff at the agency to step up surveillance
"particularly directed at ... UN Security Council members" to provide
up-to-the-minute intelligence on the voting intentions of UN members regarding
the issue of Iraq, according to the Observer.
The leaked memorandum, dated January 31, makes clear that the target of the
heightened surveillance efforts are the delegations from Angola, Cameroon,
Chile, Mexico, Guinea and Pakistan at the UN headquarters in New York, it
said.
Along with Spain and the United States, Britain has sponsored a new UN
resolution declaring Iraq in non-compliance with earlier UN demands that it
disarm, which would in effect authorise the use of force against the Baghdad
regime.
The resolution needs nine votes to pass while avoiding a veto by any of the
five permanent members, and Britain and the US are lobbying feverishly for
support.
The votes of the so-called "middle six" delegations are being fought over by
the pro-war party, led by the US and Britain, and the party arguing for more
time for UN inspections in Iraq, led by France, China and Russia.
Chile's foreign minister Soledad Alvear ordered Chile's embassy in London to
look into The Observer's claims after meeting with Chile's UN Ambassador Juan
Gabriel Valdes and Chilean President Ricardo Lagos

A Pastoral Letter
to the President
May 8, 2002
By Rev. Rich Lang

Dear President Bush,
When you were running for office you
stated that Jesus Christ was your favorite philosopher. You have made a point of
proclaiming your Christian faith. You have put time and energy in an attempt to
link Church mission with state social security. You have, particularly since
9/11, continually preached God Bless America on almost every public
occasion. As a Pastor and fellow United Methodist I need to ask you: "Do you
know what the values and vision of Jesus are?"
I ask the question because I am baffled
and confused by your behavior. You claim Christ but act like Caesar. There is
blood all over your hands with the promise of even more blood to come. You sit
atop the nations like the Biblical Whore of Babylon openly fornicating with the
military men of might, their corporate sponsors, their nuclear madness, and
their insatiable hunger for global armament. Is this how you learned Christ?

You claim the benevolence of your
Administration toward the rest of the world. But the treaties you make continue
to be laced with a tightened rope around the neck of the poor. Is this how you
learned to "forgive our debtors"? Is it really Christ-like to insist on cuts in
life-supporting infrastructure while increasing military budgets and allowing
the plunder of nations to accrue to a very small financial elite? Have you not
been taught that Jesus was crucified by these same Principalities and Powers?

You practice a patriotic righteousness
that visualizes never ending war against enemies of great evil. You bombed
Afghanistan with both guns and butter to show the difference. But do you really
think the few crumbs of bread airlifted to Afghanistan shield the reality that
you have no intention of assisting in building a sustainable society there? Is
this how Christ taught you to avenge the wrongs done unto you?
I am troubled by your spirit George. You
claim you are of the Sustainer of Life but you practice the terror of Death. You
are spreading the war. Afghanistan is only the beginning. Military presence
crops up worldwide. You bait us with Iraq and shield what you are doing in
Columbia. You lay the groundwork for disrupting Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina.
You allow the dogs of capitalism to sink their teeth into the battered body of a
raped Central America. The buck stops on your desk George: is this what Jesus
would do?
The Spirit of Death rises and nations
tremble. We the people of the United States tremble. We discover how truly
powerless we have become. Our military budget grows to obscene levels
bankrupting the social infrastructure from which our security and freedom rise.
We see basic medical care costs increase even as more and more Americans find
themselves without health care. We see environmental treaties subverted, ignored
and disappeared even as Mother Earth signals increasing distress. Labor rights
are made secondary to the rights of Corporations resulting in wage reductions
and growing financial insecurity. Homelessness exposes itself through tented
cities. Education becomes the victim of budget knife cuts. A few benefit but the
groan of the masses is growing. Whose side are you on George?
Perhaps you think that God has chosen you
for this hour. Perhaps God has. So again I ask you, "is this how you learned
Christ?" If God has chosen you for this hour then, in Christ's name, serve the
values and vision of Jesus: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, release the
prisoners, cancel the debt, forgive your enemies, practice Jubilee. Then,
through you, this nation and all nations will be blessed.
But beware George: the road of the sword
will bring division and much blood. Those who take it up will be devoured by it.
Many people, in the name of God, have taken up the sword. And many have come to
ruin. Thinking themselves capable of naming evil they have become the very evil
they name.
Seek Christ first,

Were Neo-Conservatives’ 1998 Memos a Blueprint for Iraq War?
March 10 — Years before George W. Bush entered the White House, and years before the Sept. 11 attacks set the direction of his presidency, a group of influential neo-conservatives hatched a plan to get Saddam Hussein out of power.

The group, the Project for the New American Century, or PNAC, was founded in 1997. Among its supporters were three Republican former officials who were sitting out the Democratic presidency of Bill Clinton: Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz.
In open letters to Clinton and GOP congressional leaders the next year, the group called for "the removal of Saddam Hussein's regime from power" and a shift toward a more assertive U.S. policy in the Middle East, including the use of force if necessary to unseat Saddam.
And in a report just before the 2000 election that would bring Bush to power, the group predicted that the shift would come about slowly, unless there were "some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor."
That event came on Sept. 11, 2001. By that time, Cheney was vice president, Rumsfeld was secretary of defense, and Wolfowitz his deputy at the Pentagon.
The next morning — before it was even clear who was behind the attacks — Rumsfeld insisted at a Cabinet meeting that Saddam's Iraq should be "a principal target of the first round of terrorism," according to Bob Woodward's book Bush At War.
What started as a theory in 1997 was now on its way to becoming official U.S. foreign policy.

Links to Bush Administration
Some critics of the Bush administration's foreign policy, especially in Europe, have portrayed PNAC as, in the words of Scotland's Sunday Herald, "a secret blueprint for U.S. global domination."
The group was never secret about its aims. In its 1998 open letter to Clinton, the group openly advocated unilateral U.S. action against Iraq because "we can no longer depend on our partners in the Gulf War coalition" to enforce the inspections regime.
"The only acceptable strategy is one that eliminates the possibility that Iraq will be able to use or threaten to use weapons of mass destruction. In the near term, this means a willingness to undertake military action as diplomacy is clearly failing. In the long term, it means removing Saddam Hussein and his regime from power," they wrote, foreshadowing the debate currently under way in the United Nations.
Of the 18 people who signed the letter, 10 are now in the Bush administration. As well as Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, they include Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage; John Bolton, who is undersecretary of state for disarmament; and Zalmay Khalilzad, the White House liaison to the Iraqi opposition. Other signatories include William Kristol, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard magazine, and Richard Perle, chairman of the advisory Defense Science Board.
According to Kristol, the group's thinking stemmed from the principles of Ronald Reagan: "A strong America. A morally grounded foreign policy ... that defended American security and American interests. And understanding that American leadership was key to not only world stability, but any hope for spreading democracy and freedom around the world."

Pushing for a More Assertive Foreign Policy
After the 1991 Gulf War ended with Saddam still in position as a potential threat, Kristol told Nightline, he and the others had a sense that "lots of terrible things were really being loosed upon the world because America was being too timid, and too weak, and too unassertive in the post-Cold War era." In reports, speeches, papers and books, they pushed for an aggressive foreign policy to defend U.S. interests around the globe.
Clinton did order airstrikes against Iraq in 1998, but through the rest of his presidency and the beginning of Bush's, America's "containment" policy for Saddam lay dormant — until September 2001.
"Before 9/11, this group ... could not win over the president to this extravagant image of what foreign policy required," said Ian Lustick, a Middle East expert at the University of Pennsylvania. "After 9/11, it was able to benefit from the gigantic eruption of political capital, combined with the supply of military preponderance in the hands of the president. And this small group, therefore, was able to gain direct contact and even control, now, of the White House."
Like other critics, Lustick paints PNAC in conspiratorial tones: "This group, what I call the tom-tom beaters, have set an

THE WAR AGAINST OURSELVES An Interview with Major Doug Rokke.

2003-03-11 Thread William
http://www.futurenet.org/25environmentandhealth/rokke.htm
THE WAR AGAINST OURSELVES An Interview with Major Doug Rokke.
Doug Rokke has a PhD in health physics and was originally trained as a forensic scientist. When the Gulf War started, he was assigned to prepare soldiers to respond to nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare, and sent to the Gulf. What he experienced has made him a passionate voice for peace, traveling the country to speak out. The following interview was conducted by the director of the Traprock Peace Center, Sunny Miller, supplemented with questions from YES! editors.
QUESTION : Any viewer who saw the war on television had the impression this was an easy war, fought from a distance and soldiers coming back relatively unharmed. Is this an accurate picture?
ROKKE : At the completion of the Gulf War, when we came back to the United States in the fall of 1991, we had a total casualty count of 760: 294 dead, a little over 400 wounded or ill. But the casualty rate now for Gulf War veterans is approximately 30 percent. Of those stationed in the theater, including after the conflict, 221,000 have been awarded disability, according to a Veterans Affairs (VA) report issued September 10, 2002. Many of the US casualties died as a direct result of uranium munitions friendly fire. US forces killed and wounded US forces. We recommended care for anybody downwind of any uranium dust, anybody working in and around uranium contamination, and anyone within a vehicle, structure, or building that's struck with uranium munitions. That's thousands upon thousands of individuals, but not only US troops. You should provide medical care not only for the enemy soldiers but for the Iraqi women and children affected, and clean up all of the cont!
amination in Iraq. And it's not just children in Iraq. It's children born to soldiers after they came back home. The military admitted that they were finding uranium excreted in the semen of the soldiers. If you've got uranium in the semen, the genetics are messed up. So when the children were conceived -- the alpha particles cause such tremendous cell damage and genetics damage that everything goes bad. Studies have found that male soldiers who served in the Gulf War were almost twice as likely to have a child with a birth defect and female soldiers almost three times as likely.
Q: You have been a military man for over 35 years. You served in Vietnam as a bombardier and you are still in the US Army Reserves. Now you're going around the country speaking about the dangers of depleted uranium (DU). What made you decide you had to speak publicly about DU?
ROKKE: Everybody on my team was getting sick. My best friend John Sitton was dying. The military refused him medical care, and he died. John set up the medical evacuation communication system for the entire theater. Then he got contaminated doing the work. John and Rolla Dolph and I were best friends in the civilian world, the military world, forever. Rolla got sick. I personally got the order that sent him to war. We were both activated together. I was given the assignment to teach nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare and make sure soldiers came back alive and safe. I take it seriously. I was sent to the Gulf with this instruction: Bring 'em back alive. Clear as could be. But when I got all the training together, all the environmental cleanup procedures together, all the medical directives, nothing happened. More than 100 American soldiers were exposed to DU in friendly fire accidents, plus untold numbers of soldiers who climbed on and entered tanks that had been hi!
t with DU, taking photos and gathering souvenirs to take home. They didn't know about the hazards. DU is an extremely effective weapon. Each tank round is 10 pounds of solid uranium-238 contaminated with plutonium, neptunium, americium. It is pyrophoric, generating intense heat on impact, penetrating a tank because of the heavy weight of its metal. When uranium munitions hit, it's like a firestorm inside any vehicle or structure, and so we saw tremendous burns, tremendous injuries. It was devastating. The US military decided to blow up Saddam's chemical, biological, and radiological stockpiles in place, which released the contamination back on the US troops and on everybody in the whole region. The chemical agent detectors and radiological monitors were going off all over the place. We had all of the various nerve agents. We think there were biological agents, and there were destroyed nuclear reactor facilities. It was a toxic wasteland. And we had DU added to this whole mes!
s. When we first got assigned to clean up the DU, and arrived in northern Saudi Arabia, we started getting sick within 72 hours. Respiratory problems, rashes, bleeding, open sores started almost immediately. When you have a mass dose of radioactive particulates and you start breathing that in, the deposit sits in the back of the pharynx, where the cancer started initially on the

Bush The Articulate -
Hearing Voices
By Jay Weidner
3-9-3

Many people are wondering how our President George W. Bush went from a stumbling, error-prone, inarticulate speaker to a fairly coherent presenter, especially in the last 9 months.   It has been known in most inside circles that our beloved President has dyslexia. This fact further muddies the waters, as it is highly unlikely that a serious reading disorder like dyslexia can be overcome, even with expert tutoring and plenty of practice.   While watching a recent speech by our beloved President it became clear to me what was really happening.   I noticed that his eyes never looked at the TelePrompTer. This is a device that carries the written words of the speech on a TV monitor. The monitor sits right above the camera with the words of the speech rolling by. The person on the screen reads the words and it appears as if they are staring right at the camera. When it is done right it has a very folksy effect because it appears as if the person on the TV is talking directly to you. President Ronald Reagan was particularly good at TelePrompTer reading. He did it so well that I believe this ability was one of the major reasons for Reagan's many successes. He could stare right at the camera while reading the TelePrompTer. It was like Uncle Ronnie was talking straight to you. Reagan knew how to work the TelePrompTer like no one else.   As I watched Bush give his recent speech I realized that his eyes wandered from right to left and from left to right. It was obvious that he was not reading from a TelePrompTer. Also I noticed that there were long pauses between his sentences. On queue he would look left and then right before beginning his next sentence. It soon became apparent to me what was going on and why President Bush had suddenly become erudite.   As a Film Director I recognized immediately what was happening. After making many documentaries, in all sorts of conditions, it is sometimes impossible to use a TelePrompTer to assist the narrator. For instance, sometimes the glare of the sun will blank out the words on the TelePrompTer screen, or there may be a number of other technical glitches that get in the way of using it properly. On these rare occasions when the TelePrompTer cannot be used, I, and others, have used, instead, another device to help the narrator remember his dialogue.   Using a small earpiece a FM signal is broadcast into the ear of the narrator. Another voice reads the dialogue and the signal is sent to the earpiece. The narrator hears the words in his ear and uses this as his prompt.   There are several problems with this technique, which is why it is used only rarely in films and documentaries: First, it should be said that the earpiece prompt is usually a last ditch effort to prompt the narrator, or actor, while shooting a film. Technical glitches aside, when a Director resorts to an earpiece prompt it usually means that the narrator, or actor, has trouble reading or remembering their lines. Secondly, long pauses have to be built into the prompt and the script. These pauses take place in between sentences so that the prompt does not get too far ahead of the person speaking. Thirdly the script must be rewritten for the earpiece prompt. The sentences must stay short and concise so that the narrator, or actor, does not get confused.   Is this what Bush is doing? My answer is a definite 'yes'. During this same speech I watched as he immediately corrected a word that he had just mis-spoken. I have encountered this before during film shoots using the earpiece prompt. This is done because the speaker has gone slightly ahead of the earpiece prompt. He makes the mistake and then hears the correct word in his ear. He then corrects himself and goes on like nothing happened.   Watch the next speech. Notice how he pauses between sentences. His eyes veer robotically left and right. He then begins his next sentence. It is clear to me that these pauses are placed into the speeches on purpose so that the earpiece voice prompter does not get too far ahead of the President. Our beloved President has become an articulate spokesman for the ruinous destruction of our country. Isn't showbiz grand?

In a letter delivered yesterday to President Bush, U.S. war veterans questioned the wisdom of invading Iraq now and sought a meeting with the White House to discuss their concerns. Initiated by the Washington-based veterans’ group Veterans for Common Sense, the letter was e-mailed to veterans this weekend and quickly gathered nearly 1,000 signatories, including high-ranking officers and Kris Kristofferson.
The letter (see below) “strongly question[s] the need for war at this time,” noting signatories are “not convinced that coercive containment has failed, or that war has become necessary.” It argues that unlike 1991’s desert campaign to liberate Kuwait, invading Iraq now would likely entail “protracted siege warfare, chaotic street-to-street fighting in Baghdad, and Iraqi civil conflict,” raising fears of “casualties not witnessed since Vietnam.”
Citing UN predictions of massive Iraqi casualties, including 1.26 million children under age five at particular risk, it states “excessive civilian casualties like those predicted by the UN pose a grave risk to our national security, making the U.S. more of a target of retaliatory attacks by terrorists.” Its signatories describe themselves as “patriotic citizens and veterans who respect the office of the President,” requesting a meeting at his “earliest possible convenience.”
The following signatories are available now for media interviews:
* Specialist Erik K. Gustafson, Gulf War Army veteran, co-founder, Veterans for Common Sense, an organization started by Gulf War veterans questioning the wisdom of invading Iraq.* Captain Kris Kristofferson, former 82 Airborne helicopter pilot, celebrated actor, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter.* Colonel David H. AUBATTLECRY,
You are probably right about WW III, but it will probably go
nuclear this summer.

To all,
Everybody should believe in JESUS repent, recieve baptism and
the HOLY SPIRIT  in order to be saved, then prepare for the end of this
world system because YESHUA "JESUS" is coming back real soon. Read the bible,
when he comes back the scriptures say it is "the day of vengeance", "the day of
wrath". The scriptures also say that the sons of men will cry out for the rocks
to fall on their heads to hide them from the wrath of the lamb. This day will
not be a happy day for most of the inhabitants of the world. It breaks my heart
to think of all of the people who will be condemned on that "day of great
distress".
I continue to pray, but I know that judgement has been
pronounced on America and indeed has already begun. Look around at all the
diseases and corruption. Darkness has filled our land and it's not just
because of the sinner, the "christians also has defiled the land. I think that
the most that can be accomplished here is perhaps we might be granted a little
more time... repent.
May all come to know YAWEH as I have known him, through
YESHUAH.
ken

ps some of us long deeply for his return, for we seek an end
to this carnal world. HE is my king and I eagerly await his return that I may
see HIM face to face...
