Just to be on the safe side: Does that file actually exist on the
recipient's end? Your example looks like a mapped network drive - maybe
your colleagues have it mapped to a different drive letter, or not at all?

Thanks, yes, I actually am testing it by sending it to myself at the moment.

It seems that it is an issue with outlook, that you cannot send "anchored"
links via it.

I've tried to change the # to %23, but that then makes that the file is not
found.

But I'll tell the people to copy and paste the link into their browser bar,
or use the "search" function for them.

2008-11-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello,
I am using a modified version of Tiddlywiki with blog functions and I
needed this kind of comment stuff.
I am writting my own with juste some lines of php code and an easy
integration into tiddlers : basicly an iframe with php call and a
param for comment number related to this tiddler.
The php code and comment folder will be on the server, the Twiki page
also but no database is needed, just plain text.
It is almost working but I have some issue with characters formatting
that I hope to fix shortly.
Then It will work.
Told you

[tw] Any neat solution to preventing wiki-linking?

2008-11-25 Thread Marc J. Cawood

When TW sees the word "MyText" it automatically converts it to a link.
If you want to prevent this you have to prefix the symbol "~".

Often however, you don't know if TW is going to wiki-link a word
because you are creating dynamic things (like table column headers in
the SQLQueryPlugin. If you always add the "~" you sometimes end up
with things rendering with the "~" when they are not camel-case.

Is there any way (other than {}) to prevent wiki-linking?

When I tried to substitute %23 for # in a permalink URL, the

offers several options, including
* tagging a tiddler with 'excludeLinks' to block automatic WikiWord
linking in the tiddler
or
* Create a space-separated, bracketed list in a tiddler called
DisableWikiLinksList. The words in that list will no longer be
auto-linked anywhere in the document.
or
* Set an option checkbox to block all automatic wiki linking
throughout the document

You might be able to get your up-stream ISP to null-route that IP
address. You could do it yourself if it is on your home router, but
that will still clog everything leading up to your home router.

Thanks for mentioning this plugin. I have the case where I edit one
tiddlywiki from two different paths, one of which has the images
locally, and the other of which has the images only on my public server.
This will be a nice little tweak for me. :)

[tw] URGENT MESSAGE TO PERSON AT IP 123.204.119.64 (somwhere in Taiwan)

2008-11-25 Thread Eric Shulman

Someone appears to be running a PHP script called "test.php" that is
clogging the TiddlyTools server with hundreds of thousands of "404"
errors, while apparently trying to retrieve images files that don't
exist.

Here's the summary of 404 errors from just yesterday...

29581 /images/did_100059.gif
28913 /images/letter A.jpg
22899 /images/did_100065.gif
22793 /images/p_109.jpg
16528 /images/letter O.jpg
15214 /images/letter P.jpg
10964 /images/bid_65.jpg
8678/images/letter N.jpg
6861/images/bid_79.jpg
6539/images/did_100072.gif

This has been going on for at least a few days, if not a week or
more. I had hoped it was just some stuck runaway process that would
be stopped eventually by an admin, but it seems to be getting even
worse!

Today's bombardment started with this logfile entry:
--
123.204.119.64 - - [25/Nov/2008:02:47:18 -0800] "GET /images/
did_100088.gif HTTP/1.1" 404 583 "http://localhost/test.php"; "Mozilla/
5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML,
like Gecko) Chrome/0.3.154.9 Safari/525.19"
--
and has thus far seen more HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of errors being
generated extremely rapidly (as many as 10-12 every *second*).

Note that the referring URL appears to be obfuscated (i.e.,
"...localhost... "), and says it's coming from "test.php"... which
seems a bit odd, unless perhaps it is some sort of special PHP-
generated TiddlyWiki document.

Even so, I suspect that the cause isn't intentional. In fact, it
might be due to an errant installation of
 http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#ImagePathPlugin
which automatically attempts to look in 'fallback' locations for
missing images, which is very convenient when moving lots of image
directories around.

However, it is also *very* important to note that, when installing
this plugin YOU SHOULD NOT COPY THE PLUGIN CONFIGURATION TIDDLER
(called ImagePathList... and yes, I *do* mean to shout that!).
This configuration tiddler contains explict references to the "images"
directory on TiddlyTools.com. As a result, any missing images files
on your local system will automatically trigger attempts to find them
on MY server!

This goes for everyone who is using TiddlyTools' ImagePathPlugin:

Please IMMEDIATELY check your copy of ImagePathList and replace
all references to TiddlyTools.com in that tiddler with some other URLs
where *your* images might actually be located.

Sorry to have to make this a public airing, but I can see no other way
to try and get this unfortunate server assault to stop...

Much thanks,

This is great and, like all things I like: should be part of the core!
Or at least, Jeremy, that we could globally disable auto-wiki-linking
throughout the document OR have the ~ disappear when a word is not a
candidate for wiki-links. In my experience auto wiki-links are more
trouble than they're worth especially because we thereby cause people
to WriteLikeThis instead of [[Writing Like This]...

[tw] A suggestion for making TW more user-friendly

2008-11-25 Thread Eric Weir

I'm curious. Firefox and Thunderbird have a nifty system for installing
and managing add-ons. There's a standard interface that is used for
installing, customizing, deactivating, uninstalling all add-ons.

If there were something corresponding that for TW plugins, I'll be a lot
of people who're otherwise put-off by the complexities of exploiting
TW's amazing versatility.

Just a thought -- but then I have absolutely no idea, beyond what I've

OK, I figured it out myself.

In fact my TW *is* using a custom ViewTemplate. After determining that,
it took some more figuring for this novice to decipher the instructions

This sort of thing has been discussed many times - and to some extent,
achievements have and are being made.
However, it's a very complex problem, in part because the TiddlyWiki
universe is in many ways very different from most extensible
applications/systems (for example, a centralized distribution system is
not as easy to implement, and possibly even not as desirable, as it is
in Mozilla's landscape).
Nevertheless, there will certainly be further advancements - though of
course the amount of developers available to work on a given project is
frequently the bottleneck.

FWIW, the existing plugin manager (backstage > plugins) already provides
some functionality for handling plugins.

I found it *extremely* easy to install plugins. When you're in the wiki
business, then reading is a skill you should use. And after a bit of
reading (almost any plugin gives you the exact procedure) it's very easy,
and most plugins are installed the same way...

Copy the text into a new tiddler (that you give the right name), and add
systemConfig as a tag. Press save, and F5.

As far as other wikis and other web content management systems go, this is
as easy as it gets.

True - compared to installing extensions for, say, MediaWiki, TiddlyWiki
plugins are a breeze to install.

Actually, it can be even easier by using TiddlyWiki's import mechanism:

(TiddlyWiki.org is currently down, but should be back tomorrow.)

The advantage of importing plugins is that you can use TiddlyWiki's
built-in synchronization mechanism (backstage > sync) to update them.*

* however, this currently only works if you haven't modified the
respective plugin tiddler, e.g. by assigning different tags

[tw] Re: I need help making a password vault

2008-11-25 Thread Matt L.

Thanks Nicolas. After some experimenting, I think you have put me on
the correct path. I was worried about being forced to use the Encrypt
() tag because I was afraid I would forget it when adding new ones,
but I found out how to make a button and specify the default tags so
that should suit my purpose just fine. The "Decrypt All" button you
mentioned will work well with this approach.

Thanks again!

Don't go making it more complex! :-)

Well, it's not always so easy. Often there have to be modifications to
stylesheets, viewtemplates, etc. May be as "easy as it gets" for someone
like yourself -- obviously, being in a position to compare TW versus
"other wikis and other web content management systems, you're not
exactly a novice at this -- but when someone who knows nothing about
CSS, e.g., is given vague instructions to put a snippet of code
somewhere in a tiddler filled with obscure code it doesn't appear easy
at all. Initial attempts to follow them are often unsuccessful. When
they are it's often a complete mystery why. Big chunks of days have
disappeared out of my life trying resolve such mysteries. At the end of
the day it's never a good feeling -- whether you've succeded or not.

I don't mean to be ungrateful or unappreciative. This is clearly one of
the most creative, caring, and generous communities around. By a long
shot. That said, there could be a bit more imagination about what it's
like for the ordinary user.

I hope no one takes offense at this. I do not mean to give it. Only to
say how it appears to me.

Sincerely,

Eric Weir

[tw] Unable to save backups...

2008-11-25 Thread carol

Hi, I would really appreciate an answer as to how to save a back up
file...For some reason, this feature stopped working and I am unsure
as to why. Back up file box is still checked in preferences. Would I
be able to download the Tiddlywiki program again, over the one I have
on my laptop, to possibly correct this problem and restore the ability
to create back up files? Thanks

There's an update for TiddlySnip. I installed it and all is good
again.

Here's the thread where it's discussed:

[tw] Mobiles Rejoice! A Mobile Browser that works with Tiddlywiki!

2008-11-25 Thread leeand00

I found a mobile browser that works with Tiddlywiki! (well
tiddlyspot.com anyway)

It's called SkyFire for Windows Mobile. And it works great, I can
even update my tiddlyspot account from there!

http://www.skyfire.com/

No word yet on if I can update a tiddlywiki file though yet...as I
haven't tried it yet.

2008-11-25 Thread Reenen Laurie

Point taken... But the fact remains, that you ARE busy with a wiki and a web
management system. (And not a 70mb MS Word / Frontpage application)

In most of these when you ask:"How can I in ", they'll tell you... You can't...

Here they say:"Oh, just have a look at ", or "We haven't tried
that! Sounds like a challenge!".

So at this stage you're asking:
"How can I make it easy (yet customizable) for people with no web skills, to
do really advanced stuff that most content management systems can't do"

And I'm answering "You can't, but it's actually already halfway there"...
but guess what... some of these other guys are saying "We have tried that,
and it remains a challenge!" (They've not given up!)

This *easy* extensibility is exactly why I've asked in a previous thread for
a "fully fledged" tiddly wiki (with page revisions, and a true multi-user
environment). It's simply better and easier than any other stuff out there
(including Joomla).

-Reenen

[tw] Re: Unable to save backups...

2008-11-25 Thread Nicolas Syssoieff
Hi Carol,

As it sounds, if you download something from the internet *over* your
existing version, you'll likely lose the content of your actual TiddlyWiki
so I'm not sure this sounds like the best option.
Which flavor of TiddlyWiki are you using (standard, MPTW, etc) ?
Also, do you have plugins installed (as some of them can have an impact on
backups, such as LessBackupsPlugin for example) ?
