Ok, I understand now what you wanted to achieve, the locator is really
inappropriate.

Thank you for the advice, I will somehow clarify the documentation.

I don't know exactly where, but I seen you earlier, maybe somewhere in the

This should be relatively easy to implement. ... The mechanism is similar
to the "HotZone" plugin from tiddlymap. ... But the implementation is
"simpler", since it only uses existing TW core functions.

I'm not sure about this one. ... It doesn't change any mechanisms. At the
moment, it only uses mechanisms that already exist in TW, which are "kind
of hidden" at the moment.

But the idea is, .. in the future .., to have a simple mechanism to deal
with several story-rivers. There has been a proposal at github
some time ago, which
goes into the same direction.

Given the number of wikis I have, I would personally resist losing the ability

And is tiddler philosophy the secret and necessary ingredient for this dynamism?

Perhaps it is, I wonder if its because the atomic element in tiddlywiki, the
tiddler, is front and centre, a human scale object we all learn about. The
tiddler, effectively a unique key record is not hidden in rows within a
database table, nor losing its uniqueness inside some other category. Tiddlers
live and must be unique within a tiddlywiki, all of which is a clearly defined
human scope.

"Focus tiddler" button could be a good name because I think once we have the
ability to have a focused tiddler people will innovate around that. For example
they may make a sidebar tab that lists the focused tiddlers fields or

Very appealing with such high level views. Makes me wonder why we have this
particular division of "things" that control out data. We have clearly not
aimed for the ruling paradigm that distinguishes between "physical
structure" (HTML), "style" (CSS) and "actions" (JS) - or maybe this
comparison is irrelevant. The "wikitext shortcuts" do seem to be about
styling, but macros can be anything(?) more like a container. Widgets...
are placed out as if they were html/structure elements but they are really
small creatures; things that do stuff. And filters... I agree with Joe that
these are really something special. We treat the filter operators almost
like physical manifestations... the cutter, the end-applier, the inspector,
etc. I dabbled with SQL long ago and while filters are of course central to
any DB, they felt like more of an activity than a thing. Maybe it is the
tiddler aspect of things that make them feel physical?

Does any other "text tool" exist where you can manipulate textual content
in any comparable way? And is tiddler philosophy the secret and necessary
ingredient for this dynamism?

not sure what you mean...
you can copy how it is used:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/core/modules/startup/startup.js#L81

put your tids that you want to swtich into individual plugins and give then
a plugintype - 'mythemes' or something else. then create a startup module
and copy the code from startup.js and change the type to 'mythemes' (or
whatever you want to call it).

Hi Jeroen

This is a very peculiar problem, and I’d very much like to see it tracked down.
The possibility of a weakness in our encryption mechanism will always be
wrorying.

Mark’s comments make it sound like the issue some kind of caching performed by
the browser. It would be interesting if you were able to try another browser on
the Moto for comparison. If the browser provides a means to empty its caches
you may be able to use that to track things down too.

Best wishes

[tw5] Re: Can a <$button> be used to create a data tiddler?

2019-06-17 Thread Watt
Try this on an empty test wiki. Don't use it on your thousand plus geneaology
wiki without having made backups.

It's not a complete solution but it might give some help. You'll need to extend
it with more indexes/fields according to your needs. The wizards here on the
forum might have better solutions to offer.

Paste this into a new tiddler;

\define data_title()
$:/?data/{{$:/temp/person!!name.family}}/{{$:/temp/person!!name.middle}}/{{$:/temp/person!!name.given}}
\end

\define addProfile()

<$wikify name="person_data_title" text=<> >

<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.middle
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.middle}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.family
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.family}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.given

[tw5] Re: Can a <$button> be used to create a data tiddler?

2019-06-17 Thread Watt
Here is an attempt that may or may not help you Chris. Try it out on an empty
test wiki first, I am not a wizard so please don't use it on your thousand plus
genealogy wiki, make backups of everything.

This should produce a data tiddler with matching fields for each input
individual. (data tiddler and fields=Future proof!)
The data tiddlers produced will be named $:/?data/family/middle/given and
tagged with family name.
You will have to extend it to include all the indexes/fields you need.
It's not a complete solution but might help you get there. Perhaps one of the
forum wizards will suggest better options.

Paste this into a tiddler, the name doesn't matter;

\define data_title()
$:/?data/{{$:/temp/person!!name.family}}/{{$:/temp/person!!name.middle}}/{{$:/temp/person!!name.given}}
\end

\define addProfile()

<$wikify name="person_data_title" text=<> >

<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.middle
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.middle}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.family
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.family}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $index=name.given
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.given}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<>/>

<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $field=name.middle
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.middle}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $field=name.family
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.family}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $field=name.given
$value={{$:/temp/person!!name.given}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $field=tags

<$action-setfield $tiddler='$:/temp/person' name.family="" name.middle=""
name.given=""/>

<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-auto-save-wiki"/>
\end

Family name: <$edit-text class='tc-edit-texteditor' tiddler='$:/temp/person'

I'm not 100% sure if the "focused-tiddler" plugin is able to handle the
full 2 way communication, or if we need a button in the ViewTemplate. ...
Something like "Show in TOC".

For big and nested TOCs it may be a problem, if it has to do the
"open/close" logic in a fast pace, on story scroll. At the moment the
focused-tiddler logic waits 100ms, to be sure the user stopped scrolling.
Then it updates the focused-tiddler history field. The rest is done by TW
and it's "on-change" redraw magic.

have fun!

No, has to do with the having best possible ( in relation to personal

that how is currently set up : tiddlers for personal data ( and sources )
and additional ones for marriages, parents, children, events, etc.

Its genealogy there are *always* lots of records. I decided to roll it back
a bit last year and focus and direct lineage families . . . still looking
about 1k+ individuals; before that it more like 2k+. You always keep info
you come across ( even if it doesn't directly apply ) as someone else might

2019-06-17 Thread Chris
True, but I think data tiddlers might work better in this case due to
volume; at least enough to go down that rabbit hole. It is not only the
information on person info ( birth, death, burial ) but other things too.
For instance I have my maternal grandfather's discharge papers; there is
wealth of data there. Then there is birth certificates, marriage, and
death; that is a lot of potential data.

2019-06-17 Thread talha131
What I was looking for

See these images

I was searching for the word diff and json. These are common words in the
programming world and more than one topics have tiddlers on it. I needed a
simple way to tell these tiddlers apart with a glance.

I didn’t need to narrow down my search via tag or open other tiddlers from
the tag pill. Just wanted to have a little bit context in the search result
that a tiddlers is from which topic.
Feedback on Locator

It’s a powerful plugin.

   1. Its documentation can certainly be improved. It wasn’t clear that you
need to add some tiddlers to get it working.
   2. Usage is not clear either. If you add a gif or YouTube video it will
   certainly be helpful

My take away is that it’s useful for users who have thousands of tiddlers
with hundreds of tags in the TW. So far I have only 663 tiddlers and 77
tags, so TW default search is good enough. For now.

Ciao Mark

IF, the wiki has not been saved to the downloads folder or a user deletes
all the saved versions (probable at of housekeeping from time to time) you
get a HUGE error message ... like this ...

wiki1
Get-Item : Cannot bind argument to parameter 'Path' because it is an empty
string.
At C:\bag\z_pa\PortableApps\tw_nine-lives\tw_nine-lives_v01.ps1:37 char:26

ParameterBindingVal
   idationException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId :
ParameterArgumentValidationErrorEmptyStringNotAl
   lowed,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetItemCommand

My wonder is could the error message be something less verbose and
intimidating? Like ...

wiki1
There are no downloads of this Wiki!

Similarly for the wiki itself, if its incorrectly named, or you moved or
deleted it, you get ...

wiki1
Get-Item : Cannot find path 'C:\scrap\wiki1\wiki1.html' because it does not
exist.
At C:\bag\z_pa\PortableApps\tw_nine-lives\tw_nine-lives_v01.ps1:36 char:22
+ $destination = Get-Item "$dir\$stem.html"
+ ~~~

(C:\scrap\wiki1\wiki1.html:Strin
   g) [Get-Item], ItemNotFoundException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId :
PathNotFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetIt
   emCommand

etc...

This would be just as informative ...

wiki1
The Wiki 'C:\scrap\wiki1\wiki1.html' does not exist!

In neither case is the error fatal.

In fact as soon as you create the needed file things carry on as normal.

Best wishes
Josiah

Mat

Actualy I do not find html and css limited too much in tiddlywiki except as I
believe we both acknowledge, they are limited in such a way the tiddlywiki
platform needs to deliver its promises. A Quine, its ui, its tiddlers, tag and
fields.

As I learn more I can see how even if we need to build a plugin we can use any
JavaScript html and css feature and technology we want. It just must conform to
the platforms requirements and then it can thrive in the tiddlywiki ecosystem.

The compliance cost is much less than the advantages gained by participating in
the tiddlywiki environment because tiddlywiki delivers in many different ways.
File server ui data models interface software development file and server
hosting and other plugins and macros.

This is a win win exponential.

I have identified a way to make the sentenial batch very efficient and
potentially configureless. no need to worry about timing or performance impact.
The same should work for bash scripts, but I could not write the bash one,
except slowly. Perhaps I can even simplify it from a user and filename
perspective including providing multi folder handling eg empty lives in
documents/empty folder and prerelease in documents/prerelease.

However I must review marks script in detail first.

This is leading us down an interesting path which seems to be getting smoother

Very useful plugin, thanks!

With a hidden option, we can even display data tiddlers:

- Go to https://gt6796c.github.io/
- Create a new tiddler, name it "Coords" and set type to JSON data
(application/json)
- Set the content to "[[3,2],[4,1],[2,5]]"
- Create another tiddler with the content

<$graph>
$tw.wiki.getTiddlerData("Coords")
1/x
Math.sin(x)

The first line causing the magic: it gets the (black) points from "Coords"
data tiddler (the other lines are not needed, I just want to show that the
`$tw.wiki...` is a same Javascript line as the others).

[tw5] Re: Can a <$button> be used to create a data tiddler?

2019-06-17 Thread Watt
Hi Chris
Do I understand what you want correctly?

Do you already have a lot of these genealogical records that you want to
convert from fields to data tiddlers?

Do you want to keep the existing fields and extract their content into a data
tiddler in the same tiddler's text area, for display convenience?

or are you just starting to create these records and want to use a form for
data input into a data tiddler structure?

Is your goal a unique data tiddler for each individual containing names, birth,
baptism, burial?

How many individuals are you thinking of?

I'm only just exploring data tiddlers myself but here are some observations
from a fellow beginner;

Data tiddlers are sometimes easier for input and readability but the data
values can be more difficult to filter and manipulate for output.

Fields are sometimes difficult for readability but are much easier for
manipulating and filtering output.

Data tiddlers can greatly reduce the number of tiddlers needed, they are
readable and are easy to export but those benefits depend on how many records
you need to create and how you structure them.

If you make a data tiddler for each individual then you'll still create the
same number of tiddlers as the fields method and might hit problems if there
are identical names.

There are some useful tips on data tiddlers here;

https://kookma.github.io/TW-Scripts/#datatiddler

Data tiddlers may not exist forever in their current form, see the discussion

[tw5] Re: Can a <$button> be used to create a data tiddler?

2019-06-17 Thread TonyM
Mark

I favor fields as well however if we iterate datatidder keys/indexes they can
be used like any title list.

For fun I just built a view template for data tiddlers that lets you edit all
values in that data tiddler. It does not loose focus and you can have multiline
text in multiple records in one tiddler, and in the view template you can lay
them out as a form. These automatically become json format.

Tony

Once the workings get clear and tested this should be possible. In my own
case I'm playing with a fairly crude approach to launch the PS script from
a simple batch file that does other things, like list directories. The only
reason I that is because I have a tool to compiles a batch files into an
executable in windows and I don't have skill to do more.

Right now Mark S.' base PS script, I think, needs using a bit by a few
people to highlight aspects of it that might be expanded/improved. He's not
a PowerShell guru so there may be things to notice before its ready for
other aspects. And other people my understand how to address those issues.

Best wishes
Josiah

I am really looking forward to a focused tiddler. will be able to somehow add
the ability click on a tiddler in the story view to cause it to be focused or
only from such a toc.

great addition

[tw5] Re: Navigation Issue: Small tiddlers all on the screen

2019-06-17 Thread PMario
Hi Mohammad,

I did add a "fix toc" pull request [1], last week. This PR also contains a
very little (but extremely powerful) new feature, that will let us
highlight a so called "focused-tiddler". ..

This focused tiddler can be different to the current-tiddler element of the
$:/HistoryList. It will allow us to eg: style the focused tiddler border.
In the future, it will be easy to make focus changes visible. ...

With the PR the focused tiddler status is used to highlight the "current"
element in the sidebar TOC. .. With a plugin, this behaviour can be
extended. So if an open tiddler reaches the eg: upper 1/3 of the screen,
the focused-tiddler field will be updated, in the TOC. So you can see,
which tiddler is "active" at the moment.

I did release a video about the TOC refactoring some time ago. .. The
behaviour described above can be seen
from about: 3:20 - 4:40.

The plugin _is not_ part of the PR. It will be published at wikilabs, once
the PR is merged. I hope, it will be merged and published with 5.1.20. ...

The PR still contains a glitch, that I have to fix, this week, since I've
been on holidays last week :)

The full video [2] also demonstrates some functions, that I did remove from
the PR, to increase the chance to get the PR merged.

have fun!
mario

[tw5] Re: Collaborative use of TW—possibility to merge?

2019-06-17 Thread LinOnetwo
I think a simple way to prevent conflict is letting people working on
several different tiddlers, and transclude them together.

To prevent people editing same file, maybe you can use webrtc or libp2p to
indicate a tiddler is currently being editing, thus prevent people from
change it. Just like how Quip lock a line.

[tw5] Re: [meta] WikiText - what type of language is it?

2019-06-17 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Mat

I think part of the issue is that there large variation about the scope of
what "markup" means.

The term "markup" was originally derived from printer's (blue or red pen)
annotations that were instructions for the layout of physical type on a
printing press. This later evolved into formalised typesetting systems.
LaTex and troff emerged, in turn from those (and as Jed mentions, PDF
partly carries the heritage of that and is still used by publishers as a
way to submit a documents to printers). Then there is HTML, SGML, XML etc.
Long history, several directions. (See here for a reasonable overview:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markup_language#History_of_markup_languages)
A major issue that emerged over the years is to what extent they are
"presentational", "procedural", "descriptive" or "semantic".

MarkDown and cousins is a "lightweight markup language" (LML) ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_markup_language

Coming to your question with regards to WikiText in TW ... I think Jed is
likely close with "macro language". It "does things" you would not normally
think of as just a LML system.

Its worth underling that its possible in TW to seamlessly add new markup
parsers, or modify existing ones. In other words, its "markup potential" is
not inherently any specific LML, rather its, in a way, a macro language
that can define them.

Best wishes
Josiah
