months. For me it was a total waste of time.

Thanks, Rob. I know Cymbalta also helps with the pain but I feel
'dull' when I take it, meaning I feel like I'm dragging and no energy.
They now have a generic which helps with the cost but haven't heard
anything about how it works compared to the name brand. I use the Lyrica
and Tramadol together and that seems to really help with the pain but
that 'band' pain sometimes takes over and even those two can't help it.
Since I've gone to the chiro, I have had tremendous relief with the
banding pain. ??? Jeanne in Dayton, WA (5 years May 20)

I mentioned last week that I went to a new Neuro in New Jersey and he
recommended that I stop Cymbalta (cold turkey) wait a couple of weeks
and start on Neurontin. His reason was that I am already on Lyrica and
Cymbalta does the same thing so I was just supposedly doubling up.
Anyway it has been a week since I stopped the Cymbalta and I have
started getting terrible banding in both legs and especially around my
trunk area. Doing my own test I took a Cynbalta and within a few minutes
I started feeling better again. It now appears obvious to me that
somehow or other the combination of Lyrica and Cymbalta was working for
me and I plan on going back on it. I would appreciate feedback by
members who take both of these drugs and how they have helped them. In
addition on top of these 2 drugs should I consider the Neurontin to
further reduce the banding?

Cymbalta LyricaI agree that doc's know almost nothing about TM.They
realize the nerve problem, but that is it. I would say that about 80% of
the time we asked questions
about TM, the answer would be we really don't know much about this disease
and everybody gets hit with it differently. So frustrating!

I have officially returned to Cymbalta after stopping it cold turkey (Neuro
said no problem) and after 5 days having the banding and pins and needles go
off the chart.I returned to the Cymbalta and I now feel myself again (not
good.but at least the same as before). Therefore when a Dr. tells you that
Cymbalta Lyrica do the same thing and therefore there is no need to take
both..I say..NUTS...the combo does work...maybe it is time for many if not all
neuro's to admit how little they know about TM.

I asked my doctor about a generic for Cymbalta because AARP sent me a letter
suggesting I try a generic to help cut my copay costs. I don't have the name
they suggested in front of me, but my doctor said it was the generic for
Effexor and it wouldn't give me any relief with the neuro pain.
Do you have a generic name for the med?

I don't think that they sell duloxetine here in the US.  I found this Canadian

I can't remember if we can or can not buy prescription drugs from Canada -

Also, look at this website - http://www.answers.com/topic/duloxetine   It
explains why duloxetine isn't sold here in the US - thanks BIG PHARMA FDA -
they do (not) work for the people - only the few!

The doughnut hole is that point in Medicare Part D where drugs are NOT paid
for, in part, by insurance.  I also thnk that it is being raised from the $2500
to $3200 threshold for 2010.

I have heard that some drug company will help once you hit the donut hole.  The

thanks to BIG PHARMA!  If you go this website notice the prices on the generic
duloxetine  and Cymbalta.  Cymbalta for one month is $9 more than I have to pay
on Medicare Part D!

Has anyone used the generic Duloxetine? Canada lists this as a generic and at
half the price.  Wondering if I should try this during the doughnut hole
problems - almost $1100 for all meds during this period.

Hi Regina - I tried Baclofen about a year or so ago with bad results, I
would wake up in the middle of the night like couldn't move, plus I
think I was more stiff. My neuro said it takes some time to get into
your system (?) I take Tizanidine, but it makes me sleepy so I can't
take much during the day. My diagnosis went from TM to MS last February
and stiffness is a REAL problem - if my neuro wants me to try Baclofen
again, I will.

Saw my neurologist today. I told her about the problem with my right
eye (can't focus), about the intense fatigue, the constant pins/needles
sensation that have traveled to my lips and the tip of my tongue.

I have a prescription for a head MRI and some blood tests that may show
or not what's going on.

She's mentioned Cymbalta everytime I've seen her. The last time, in
May, she gave me a prescription for 60mg. I took it once, it knocked me
out, I didn't like it at all. This time she brought it up again. She
wants me to try 30mg.

The problem is that I'm looking up this drug online and it scares the
daylights out of me. The side effects sound awful... I won't be able
to take an occasional drink with it, she didn't tell me that, I read it
online. I wonder if I should take 30mg every other day to start, maybe
for a week, then go to 30mg every evening and see what happens... Much
was mentioned in the group about Baclofen, but I don't remember what the
comments were.

Please help.

Kevin,
I couldn't take Cymbalta either due to headaches. I got a severe headach
that lasted for 3 days honestly. Drs. since have wanted to give it another try
but I say no thanks.
I do hope this new neurologist helps you. Some are so narrow minded. We
finally got a new one here in our city. I still get my meds., even my patches
from him. Can't find a decent pain dr. and after 15 yrs. or more of having one
I'm not for sure I find one. My lst one was the pain ever - his wife wanted to

Hi Kevin,

I take my 60 mgs every morning at 9 A.M. along with seroquel for
anxiety, and of course all of my Devic's meds. I get pretty zonked
out from my cocktail too. I just plan ahead to laze around on the
couch for awhile. i used to be up and at 'em by 6 A.M, but now I
just relax and take it easy for an extra hour or two. It took awhile
to get used to the routine. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it
works for you.

Kevin,

Some people start seeing results pretty quickly (within a few days or a week or so) but most don't even notice anything until they look back to the last month or two and see that they have survived at least some better, with out the depression and even pain or discomfort. I take 60mg in the morning and 60 in the evening. Mostly for pain management. I still hurt, but I guess it helps me deal with the pain better. The biggest problem with this type of medication is most people won't take it long enough to get the results and most are looking for a magic pill. I've discovered there isn't one. Well, there are several but I can't take them.

Natalie,
I couldn't take Cymbalta either for the terrible headaches it gave me. It
took like 3 or 4 days for the med. to get out of my system before the headache
even stopped. I've never heard of the other drug. I'll ask my dr. about it,
esp. if it helps on pain spasms. I'm on 900 mg of Neurotin and 75 Lyrica 3
times a day now and often have to take Vicodin 2 to 3 times a day to keep it
under control until I have a huge blow-up and nothing will touch that but going
to the ER it seems. And I'm so sick of the hospital. So, I'll ask my dr.
about this one. Glad you shared the info. Natalie M.

Sinequan is also extremely cheap. On the Sinequan I had immediate relief of my
pain, spasms and numbness. Almost forgot, it also helped with my bladder.

When I first asked for the Sinequan my doctors nurse said that they did not
like that med and did not use it. But, it is used for pain and in past a
neurologist had prescribed it for me for pain. I did a search on the net and
found it is still used and recommended for neuro type pain.

I tolerate Sinequan extremely well and I only need to take a 25mg PM dose. I
still cannot walk real far and if I try to do much I will get pain. But, I can
do more and I am no longer in constant pain and my terrible spasms are gone.

Hi Margie. My advice: don't refuse a drug because it may have added benefits. =) I say this because I also take a drug for my bladder spasms (unbearable!) it's Imipramine and it also is used for depression. With this and the Ditropan my bladder/bowel conditions are manageable. I'm sure that if someone was taking the Imipramine for depression they would be taking a much larger dose than I.Anyway, I also take the bladder drugs at night, so maybe the Imipramine helps me relax enough for sleep, too.I take 900 mgs. Neurontin, 10 mgs Baclofen, 10 mgs Imipramine, 15 mgs Ditropan for my nighttime cocktail. If I wake during the night, I take 2
tylenol pm and they help me get back to sleep. I usually get 4 hrs. uninterupted and then a couple more after the tylenol.I've not had a full night's sleep since this all started that was not drug induces. I am not sure about cymbalta, but I do know that small amounts of
antidepressants work very well for pain management.

No, it is not all in our heads.

One thing that I have found helpful for the pain/burning/tingling in my
feet, (which I am glad others understand) is magnesium - whether in the form
of Epsom salts baths, or magnesium citrate - it just helps a little, to take
the edge off. I still sometimes resort to percodan.
