Cymbalta LyricaI agree that doc's know almost nothing about TM.They realize the nerve problem, but that is it. I would say that about 80% of the time we asked questions about TM, the answer would be we really don't know much about this disease and everybody gets hit with it differently. So frustrating! Jeanne I asked my doctor about a generic for Cymbalta because AARP sent me a letter suggesting I try a generic to help cut my copay costs. Hi Regina - I tried Baclofen about a year or so ago with bad results, I would wake up in the middle of the night like couldn't move, plus I think I was more stiff. My neuro said it takes some time to get into your system (?) I take Tizanidine, but it makes me sleepy so I can't take much during the day. My diagnosis went from TM to MS last February and stiffness is a REAL problem - if my neuro wants me to try Baclofen again, I will. Kevin, I couldn't take Cymbalta either due to headaches. I got a severe headach that lasted for 3 days honestly. Drs. since have wanted to give it another try but I say no thanks. I do hope this new neurologist helps you. Some are so narrow minded. We finally got a new one here in our city. I still get my meds., even my patches from him. Can't find a decent pain dr. and after 15 yrs. or more of having one I'm not for sure I find one. My lst one was the pain ever - his wife wanted to live in Florida. So he up and moved there. [TMIC] Cymbalta questions - Thank you
Thank you to everyone who replied regarding my Cymbalta questions. I tried Lyrica, had bad side effects. Tolerating the Cymbalta so far. It makes me sleepy, but I take it at bedtime, so maybe it will help me get a good nights sleep which I haven't had in years. Just taking it a week so far, too early to see positive effects, but I'm hoping. Thanks again, Kevin
Re: [TMIC] Cymbalta questions - Thank you
Hi Kevin, I take my 60 mgs every morning at 9 A.M. along with seroquel for anxiety, and of course all of my Devic's meds. I get pretty zonked out from my cocktail too. I just plan ahead to laze around on the couch for awhile. i used to be up and at 'em by 6 A.M, but now I just relax and take it easy for an extra hour or two. It took awhile to get used to the routine. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works for you. [TMIC] Cymbalta questions.
Dear Friends, I started taking Cymbalta this week. Can anyone who takes it tell me how long it took to see positive effects? Any side effects? Doctor started me with one-30mg tab per day. Thanks, Kevin
RE: [TMIC] Cymbalta questions.
Kevin, Some people start seeing results pretty quickly (within a few days or a week or so) but most don't even notice anything until they look back to the last month or two and see that they have survived at least some better, with out the depression and even pain or discomfort. I take 60mg in the morning and 60 in the evening. Mostly for pain management. I still hurt, but I guess it helps me deal with the pain better. The biggest problem with this type of medication is most people won't take it long enough to get the results and most are looking for a magic pill. I've discovered there isn't one. Well, there are several but I can't take them. Larry in Oklahoma where it is going to be a beautiful day! Re: [TMIC] Cymbalta questions.
Natalie, I couldn't take Cymbalta either for the terrible headaches it gave me. It took like 3 or 4 days for the med. to get out of my system before the headache even stopped. I've never heard of the other drug. I'll ask my dr. about it, esp. if it helps on pain spasms. I'm on 900 mg of Neurotin and 75 Lyrica 3 times a day now and often have to take Vicodin 2 to 3 times a day to keep it under control until I have a huge blow-up and nothing will touch that but going to the ER it seems. And I'm so sick of the hospital. So, I'll ask my dr. about this one. Glad you shared the info. Natalie M. Natalie Boyles [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I got severe gastritis from the first 50mg cap of CymbaltaI took and so had to stop it. But, I did return to taking an old standby Sinequan. It is a tricyclic and not an sri like cymbalta. Sinequan is also extremely cheap. On the Sinequan I had immediate relief of my pain, spasms and numbness. Almost forgot, it also helped with my bladder. When I first asked for the Sinequan my doctors nurse said that they did not like that med and did not use it. But, it is used for pain and in past a neurologist had prescribed it for me for pain. I did a search on the net and found it is still used and recommended for neuro type pain. I tolerate Sinequan extremely well and I only need to take a 25mg PM dose. I still cannot walk real far and if I try to do much I will get pain. But, I can do more and I am no longer in constant pain and my terrible spasms are gone. RE: [TMIC] cymbalta question
Hi Margie. My advice: don't refuse a drug because it may have added benefits. =) I say this because I also take a drug for my bladder spasms (unbearable!) it's Imipramine and it also is used for depression. With this and the Ditropan my bladder/bowel conditions are manageable. I'm sure that if someone was taking the Imipramine for depression they would be taking a much larger dose than I.Anyway, I also take the bladder drugs at night, so maybe the Imipramine helps me relax enough for sleep, too.I take 900 mgs. Neurontin, 10 mgs Baclofen, 10 mgs Imipramine, 15 mgs Ditropan for my nighttime cocktail. If I wake during the night, I take 2 tylenol pm and they help me get back to sleep. I usually get 4 hrs. uninterupted and then a couple more after the tylenol.I've not had a full night's sleep since this all started that was not drug induces. Besides walking and baths, deep sleep is among the things I miss the most...Deb C. in Mi.--- On Wed 10/18, Butcher, Bernie [SFS] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:From: Butcher, Bernie [SFS] [mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], tmic-list@eskimo.comDate: Wed, 18 Oct 2006 07:44:19 -0400Subject: RE: [TMIC] cymbalta questionHi Margie - I take Tizanidine for leg twitching (like jimmy legs) andcramps ask your neuro about itBERNARD BUTCHER-Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:35 PMTo: tmic-list@eskimo.comSubject: [TMIC] cymbalta questionGreettings,I had my nuero appt last week and and my goal was see if I can getanything for my pain/burning/tingling feet and to get something to helpme sleep. My doctor also, told me to stop neurontin and start lyrica. The headaches where so bad for five days, I didn't think I could stand it.Glad tobe on the lyrica, but wish I had wean off the neurontin. I had a difficult time trying to switch from Neurontin to Lyrica because of the intense pain and debilitating headaches, but once I recovered from the initial side effects I realized that the banding sensation which tormented me from day one, was much, much better than before and my consumption of pain medication was way down too. (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZZ) One thing I strongly recommend is that while a person is weaning off of Neurontin and onto Lyrica, is that they have someone help them with their daily medication routine. I found myself not being able to recall whether or not I had taken my meds and I was terribly confused when it came to changing pain patches. It is a wonder that I did not end up as a suicide when I was in that state of mind. Did anyone else have the confusion I did? RE: [TMIC] cymbalta question
I am not sure about cymbalta, but I do know that small amounts of antidepressants work very well for pain management. No, it is not all in our heads. One thing that I have found helpful for the pain/burning/tingling in my feet, (which I am glad others understand) is magnesium - whether in the form of Epsom salts baths, or magnesium citrate - it just helps a little, to take the edge off. I still sometimes resort to percodan.
