How has your suprapubic been as far as infections? Does it offer the

Hey Hildred,

I too have been interested in the suprapubic catheter, but just had a
conversation with my doctor who kind of scared me away from having it done due
to
over-runs and dripping. What have you experienced, if anything, along those
lines and where did you have it done, as he says that there is no one in the
Great Lakes region doing the surgery.

Please include me in your answer.

Love you, as always...

I have had a suprapubic catheter since 5/05 when I got too weak to walk
again.

My home health nurse changes it once a month. When I go out I can change
from the big collection bag to a leg bag which hids under my dress easier.
They tell my husband could be taught to change it. He should learn since he
cut
the line to the balloon one night while changing the bandages and we had to
get the evening home health nurse to come change it.

Before I had this 14 French catheter, I had something that had a tiny metal
wire in my bladder but it got stopped up or plugged often and made me bleed a
lot since I am on Coumadin.

I do have to go to see my urologist next month so he can look inside to make
sure nothing bad is happening. I remember one of the risks is that you can
get cancer. I don't know if my bladder will work once I start walking again
and take this out.

Good luck

Hi again Hildred,

I found a very popular model that is used in the UK that has an optional
valve feature which allows one to go without the bag for periods of time.
Some indwelling models have that capability, but I don't know if they have
been FDA approved here in the States. My two buddies are hoping to be
offered that feature. That's good news about no infections!!

At the risk of sounding ignorant, is this a male or female problem, as I
have never heard of it and do wear an indwelling catheter.

[TMIC] Superpubic

2007-08-15 Thread C Child
I have had a indwelling catheter since my injury 10 years ago.
I am now having problems with the wear and tear on my urethra. Has anyone on
the list had a superpubic after having a indwelling cath for a long period of
time? Does the fact that my bladder is the size of a walnut make any
difference. My urologist does not know the answer to this question, this
doesn't surprise me, since he doesn't deal with many quads.
