Thanks for the info on the flac processing, interesting. I too thought the night and day type exclamations people have been making about the leap in sound quality must be due to better DAC processing within the Touch over earlier iterations. In theory there may be some difference, but DiffMaker will prove it. Not true. Lots of experienced listeners can identify low levels of jitter. I've personally been tested in a blind test and successfully identified levels of jitter between 15-30ns. I know of others who can identify differences even around 10ns. Differences of 100ns, which some people consider low, was easily identifiable, both by me and others. 2 Caveats: a)you need to know what to listen for, and be an experienced critical listener. Just like with many types of perception based comparisons, experience (I'd call it training your brain to properly interpret what you are hearing/seeing)makes a difference. b)a highly resolving system is also needed. I think that's about it. If you want to see something interesting, do a Google search on Logitech's part number for the Touch: 930-74 You'll find a some links to online retailers, but except for Amazon they either say 'coming soon', 'no longer available', 'discontinued', or else the product page has been completely removed from the web site. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Where can i get a touch in the u.s.?
The Touch a had a torturous birth. It sat on the warehouse shelves for ages whilst TinySC was being honed and the bugs ironed out and even then it was released before it did what it said on the can (TinySBS is woefully inadequate and does not match up to the marketing spiel: does not handle large libraries, scanner stuffs up play, no way to set path to library, etc). The product concept is flawed - a touch screen on a device tethered by wire to your systems amplifier? Surely a smaller touch screen on a mobile remote (like iPeng on an iPhone for instance) would make more sense or a big display screen (not necessarily touch) for display near near the hifi? It falls between all the stools. And now the Touch is not being supplied to resellers and is sold via Amazon and Logitech. This must make it simpler to administer returns, and you've got to assume it's enough outlet to shift existing stock. Do you think there are any more being made?. Current Touch development/bug fixes are supported by a single developer, very, very part time. What are the other Logitech developers doing?. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Power plug position
There is definitely a right way to do this, and in many systems the improvement is huge when all plugs in the system are correctly oriented. Many years ago I used a small pen-like device measuring the electric field from the components. The smaller indication from the pen was the correct way to orient the plug. However, the pen was quite insensitive, so with many components it was difficult to tell which orientation was the correct one. Then I came across this method in Stereophile where one simply uses a voltmeter set to AC and measure between the chassis and ground when all connections to other devices are removed. In case you do not have a ground close at hand, then pinch the other probe tightly with your fingers. Even if the actual voltages will not be the same, you will still be able to see which plug orientation renders the lowest voltage reading, and that is your correct position. Here is the original article: http://www.stereophile.com/finetunes/195/index.html In my system the plug orientation is really essential. The difference when I get just one plug wrong is easily audible. But when I have done this trick in some of my friends' systems the results have been varying. In some cases the difference is great, in other systems barely audible. For some reasons many of my components (especially the Krell pre- and power-amps) show very big voltage differences when turning the plugs, but some of my friends' cheaper system components barely show any voltage difference at all when turning the plug. But just to try to turn around the plugs and try to listen which is best must be very time consuming since the number of combinations will be quite many in case you have a number of components in your system. (Personally I have 10.) Remember just one plug the wrong way can ruin the sound, and then it may not be possible to realize how any of the other plugs should be oriented. The voltmeter method makes it easy to get everything correct without having to listen until all components are correctly connected. And hopefully you will be pleased with the improved sound quality. -- Erik L Erik L's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37356 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78959 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Play album from context menu
It should be fairly easy to make a simple plugin that offers a Play Album alternative in the context menu when launched from a track. What it really needs is a fix to allow a context menu to be brought up from an item within a context menu. Maybe this is possible to do in a plugin? I've raised a bug (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16290). I think you can probably also do it through a Browse by selected menu offered by Custom Browse but that would mean that you need to navigate an extra step. That's a good idea - I can probably use that as a work-around. I personally feel that the current SqueezePlay interface isn't optimized for exploring your library. I agree, but with users library sizes getting ever bigger, this is hugely important. Classic players were versatile in this respect.
