You have to use the web-UI in squeezeboxserver. Wich is not such a
problem you just have to rmeber to do it while fiddling with your
 files.

I read in a review, last night, that you can set an automatic, clear
and rescan under the advanced tab in the SB server software. When you
open the tab there is a pulldown menu on the left. I set it up for 3 AM
in the morning.

 1. When you manually add artwork to one of your music folders, the
only way the Touch will see new artwork is to do a complete SBS clear

 up artwork changes.

 2. When you rip a new disk, I believe the VBA software forces the SBS
to do a complete clear and rescan. That's why your new music AND
artwork show up when you rip a new disk without having to do the manual
 clear and rescan.

 3. As far as I know, FLAC is FLAC no matter which software you use to
produce it. There are different compression levels (I believe the VBA
is set to use the default, normal 5 but otherwise, everything else
being equal, ripping to FLAC on the VBA is exactly the same as ripping
to FLAC using DBpoweramp or EAC.

FLAC is indeed FLAC (in most cases) but all ripping programs are NOT
the same!
DBP and EAC produce the best quality rips possible. I don't know about

Agree. The issue is generally whether the rip is bit perfect. Thus the
usefulness of accuraterip, repeating the rip automatically and
comparing the the two results, etc. This said, even a ripper that is
not particularly secure (e.g., Itunes) will do just fine on the vast
majority of rips. The problem is that one would like to know more about
the quality of the rip AT THE TIME THE RIP IS DONE. And do keep in mind
that just because a disk is brand new, never played, with no visible
scratches, it might still not rip without errors. For all these
reasons, rippers are not created equal, even though they create the
same type files (e.g., FLAC). EAC and dbap are two rippers that provide
feedback and detail on the quality of a rip, have the ability to use
different secure methods, and (for me) the most useful function is the
ability to compare to a large database of other users' rips
(accuraterip).

www.MySqueezeBox.com

To connect to MySB.com just stop your Touch server then navigate to

[SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch: less configurable from Web UI?

2011-01-03 Thread mbg

Hi,

I have been using Squeezebox for a number of years, but only with SB3
Classics and a Boom.

I just added a Touch to my collection and have noticed that it seems to
be a lot less configurable from the Web UI -- a lot more seems to take
place on the device itself.

Am I missing something, or is this just the way it is?

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Any difference in sound ethernet vs wireless?

2011-01-03 Thread mbg

Agree with others -- you are sending a fixed stream over a data
connection. As long as you aren't getting rebuffering where the stream
stops and has to catch up, it should be the same quality. Also, it's
not using UDP so dropping packets to keep things moving isn't an
option.

When I first setup my Squeezeboxes, I was having problems with Wi-Fi
but would also have periodic problems with my notebook, too. Upgrading
to a better router fixed this. I can't remember having a Wi-Fi problem
since I got a better router (D-Link DIR-825 rev A, FYI). It also had
better range.

When I had problems, these weren't quality problems. The stream would
just stop because the wireless connection would get reset or the router
would reboot itself. When it was playing, it was fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch: less configurable from Web UI?

2011-01-03 Thread aubuti

That's the way it is. The Touch, Radio, and Controller are all a big
shift away from the earlier slim clients (aka slim devices) such as the
SB3/Classic, Boom, Receiver, and even Transporter. The newer products
have more memory, more capable processors, and a more capable OS. Thus
more of the settings can be set and stored on the devices themselves,
instead of on the server.

I believe there are open enhancement requests for making the settings
available on SBS as well, but I think Logitech has decided that isn't
going to happen, so things are likely to continue as they are now.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Library browser and tag viewer

2011-01-03 Thread realmassy

Hi all,
first of all sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum :-)

I'm a Sonos user and I'm thinking of buying a squeezebox touch to enjoy
hi-res music.
I listen only to classical music, and my library is tagged with a lot
of information about composer, opus number, work, movement etc etc.
On my NAS music is stored using this structure:
composer/op. number-work/artist - year/movement
ie: Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus/K. 219 - Violin Concerto No. 5 in A
major/Andrew Manze - 2006/2. Adagio

I obviously store information about the Album, so I'm able to browse
the filesystem, looking for a specific work, or listen to a whole
album.
Most of the information I have tagged (performer, publisher, orchestra,
conductor...) can not be viewed on the Sonos controller (I have built a
small web app to do so).

Now, my question is: will I be able to do something similar with a
Squeezebox Touch? Is there any plugin to browse the library by tag, in
order to recreate the same structure? Alternatively, will I be able to
browse the library by folder? Will I be able to see the cover art?
Also, any chance to display additional tag information on my iphone
using ipeng?

Thanks in advance,
Massi

As for the WiKi, that chart was created during the Beta and was mainly
from the Beta testers connecting anything with a USB plug up to the

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch often goes silent when sync'd

2011-01-03 Thread JPEG

I have the same problem.

I have a Touch with an external SBS running on Linux.

For me, the Touch will finish a track and then jump back to about the
one-third played location on that track. Visually, the track keeps
playing. Volume is at 90, but there is no sound produced out the analog
output.

If I hit the double arrow next button, the next track might start
playing and the silence might be broken. If power the Touch off, and
start it again then the sound might return. If hard-power-cycle the
Touch, the sound does return, but it will go silent again after a few
tracks.

Very frustrating. I have had this Touch and my SBS running great for
almost a year. I have 97% MP3s and 3% FLACs. The silence happens on
both MP3s and FLACs. I have not tweaked anything on my setup for a long
time so I have to assume some ~December 2010 firmware update has hosed
my Touch.

Anyone else?
