Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Why do flacs sound so nasty on touch?

2011-01-09 Thread praganj

Do not decompress all your flacs to wav, because in this way you will
loose all tags informations. In the flac there is a place for the
information about artis, album etc, transferring flac to wav is
deleting this info.

You can change the setting on your sb server so, that the server will
decode flac in wav on the fly and Touch will receive wav instead of
flac (btw this incease the sound qauality) and all tags will be still
present.

For details look here, chapter 1.1.1 :

I have qnap ts-119II and i have this kind of problems only with hires
files.
119II has 1.2GHz cpu and 512MB RAM, it is just enough for sbs.
Try to turn off all services on Qnap which you don't need or use, leave
only sbs. A faster hd with 64MB cache can also help.

I experience the same issue with a USB connected harddrive.
So, this is not a nas issue but a squeezebox issue.

This problem has been reported as a bug since 6/2010 :

When will logitech resolve this issue?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering

2011-01-09 Thread BTHOEM

Thank you for sharing your issues - seems like this is a problem
Logitech should investigate.

I am not a programmer, nor very technical, but to mee it seems like the
Touch needs a firmware update related to lossless formats, where it
starts buffering before playing lossless file formats, instead of
starting to play while buffering.

Buffering while playing might work on lower resolution files, like
MP3s, but on lossless formats, with their related file sizes, this is
obviously too ambitious.

I doubt that there are any problems on the serverside, as the files/
file images plays just fine for the rest of the album, as soon as the
buffer is filled.

Is there a formal way of raising this issue as a defect to Logitech?

No its not a problem. I actually left a remark about it on the blog,
because I knew this question would be coming.

It's a kernel related problem. Logitech just need to apply a kernel
patch for solving it.

BTW. I just changed from Beta to Normal status.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering

2011-01-09 Thread toby10

Basic diagnostics to test this issue:
- Try wiring all devices to eliminate WiFi issues (player, server,
library source).
- As suggested, turn off ALL other processes on the NAS.
- Try playing same files on a full wired computer running SBS (just
move a lossless album to computer).

I can play play full WAV's synced to four SB players (three are WiFi
including a Touch) without even a hiccup.

The only sensible way to manage album art is to put into each and every
file. Keep in mind - if you transfer a group of single files (favorite
picks) to i.e. you iPhone for playback - the only way to get the album
art included so that it will show up on the iPhone screen when you play
it, is if it's embedded in the file itself.

At least - that makes sense for me.

Every time I backup the VBA the VBAPlayer turns on and becomes another

learning every time I encounter a problem.

This is why I turn off the vb player service within my VBA. So I don't
see it as a device. Also, do you realize that you make a device
active by tapping on it in ipeng then the background turns blue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] port 9000

2011-01-09 Thread Pascal Hibon

If I understand correctly then the issue that you have is that your
Touch does not connect to your local SBS server, correct?

First check that the SBS version that you installed is at least version
7.5.0. Older versions of SBS do not support the Touch.
The next thing to check is that your Touch is properly configured. It
should be setup to connect to SBS. From the home menu go to My Music
Switch Library. There you need to select the computer name of your
laptop.
If it still doesn’t work the check if SBS is running on your laptop. I
don’t have a windows install but if I recall correctly it is able to
run as a service. So in Services it should be running.
If it still doesn’t run then I would try to created entries in the
Windows firewall for the port 3483.

Make sure you have SSH enabled on the Touch, itself. That was exactly

know that the Touch can work with 2GB USB hard drives.
