Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] New Music folder Question
Furthermore, SBS determines what is "new music" by the datestamps on the files. So, for example, you could copy some old files into your music library, and SBS may not consider them new, even though they are new to your library. On the other hand, if your tagging program changes the datestamps when you edit tags (in good tagging programs this is an option that can be turned on or off), a file may suddenly be considered "new" just because you edited tags. Overall it's a sensible method, but if you don't know how it works it can produce some surprises. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86604 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] what's next after touch?
Judging by the ever increasing number of streaming devices, audio, video and both, coming on the market seemingly every day, I would be tempted to say that the Squeezebox line of devices days are numbered but looks can be deceiving. Many, if not most, of the newer streaming devices are UPnP (universal plug and play) and therefore need some type of music player/library software installed on a network computer in order to manage one's music library. I have a WD Live Plus device which I use for streaming video and in lieu of using music player/library software one can just navigate through folders and files to find an item to play but this requires that the folders be shared on one's network. Very few of these devices offer the ease of control and flexibility afforded by the Squeezebox devices running Squeezebox server. It is SBS and its vast array of plug-ins which truly separates the Squeezebox devices from most of the other streaming devices currently on the market. >From what I've gathered reading this forum and other publications as troublesome as SBS may sometimes be, these problems pale in comparison to those users encounter when using iTunes or Windows Media Player to control a UPnP streaming device. -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 (oops) -> Touch 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86588 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Too many updates ?
You don't have to install the updates. You can swipe the screen from left to right to refuse an update. If you don't install an update from the server, you shouldn't receive a notification more than once per day. If you're running 7.6 and you connect to mysqueezebox.com and get prompted to install a 7.5.x firmware, always refuse it. There are also options at Settings > Advanced > Software Updates to turn off the local server based updates and notifications (although it won't disable any notifications you get through mysb.com). Remember that you're running beta software on the server, so not keeping the Touch's firmware somewhat up to date could mean unexpected compatibility issues at some point. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86602 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Yes there is a cooperation between the official app and Triodes plugin , the exaxt nature of it ? I don't know have not shelled out for premium yet . So by having the plugin and the app installed you can use them together in some way . No Touch is to weak to run plugins tiny cpu and only 128m of ram , there is a reason why i have not even considered using it as server... Touch is a great player , server no imho. I think Triodes plug does some transcoding thats definitely out of the scope for the poor Touch. Yes the music business is ridicilus the devs are just as bevildered sometimes ? For instance you cant use last.fm in but a few countries with an sbs but you can be a full member in many more countries ? Take the big picture we Swedes have spotify or nothing in services , in the US they have much more to choose from but not spotify ? The situations is similar in other countries with some other service as market leader . The copyright system is not meant for the modern world , there is probably an complete mess if rigths hitter and dither for different markets and countries ,the record companies themself can't make heads or tails of it . In Ye olde days it was part of the business to sell rights to their own subsidiaries in some market or other companies these vendors can still have contracts with that are valid for years to come. Evan if some record company should try to rectify the situation they are probably logjammed in deals they did in the 80's not anticipating the internet. I have CD's where there is different song counts and some guest performers missing on US vs Eu version of the same CD ? Turns out that guest performer only had the right to do the guest appearance in one market ? Yes. What benefit do you think gigabit Ethernet would give it ? -- andynormancx Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ? According to specifications: yes But then again it does not need higher speed for what it does -- slate Main: Duet (Audiocom) -> Beresford Caiman -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704 Office: Duet -> Technics SU-V50 -> Stax SR84 Pro Server: Zotac IONITX-A, 4 GB, 1 TB WD EADS, Win7 w. 7.6 (SQLite w. If the TOUCH is still in warranty, I'd go ahead and exchange it for another one. It is possible that something is wrong with it. I doubt it, as I don't think this is the sort of symptom that relates to a bad touch. But who knows. And when we started this long process, you had everything connected so entirely wrong, that there was no way to diagnose the problem. So maybe at this point, replace the TOUCH. If it exhibits exactly the same problem, then we're back at being sure that something in your setup is interfering with the streaming of info to your Touch from the SbS. But wait a second. I don't recall you ever posted the SERVER LOGS I asked about a while ago. This might be very useful. Go to the SETTINGS page, then the INFORMATION tab, then scroll to the bottom, and click on the SQUEEZEBOX SERVER LOG FILE (maybe the "500" lines). Save this file, then maybe zip it and attach it to a post here. (Do this AFTER the touch exhibits the problem of losing the now playing info). -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85697 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] The Touch - Giga ethernet connection?
Is it tru that the Touch had only 10/100 mbps on the ethernet output? -- nicoleif nicoleif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14351 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86591 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I disagree with you concerning the importance of file size. My personal experience is that with TinySBS, and the same number of tracks, bigger files (flac) means much more problems than smaller files (mp3) This is not theory, this is experiment. And the size difference between a flac and a mp3 is huge. Two more things 1/ the total size of the library does matter a lot Up to a certain size, everything is more or less fine. After that you have a brutal a massive degradation of performance. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] touch + spotify = no computer needed ?
yes Touch can handle multiple players old or new but as it can not run plugins it can not handle spotify for older players . The final decryption must reside in the player for official support , that is The deal logitech and spotify have done . Triodes Plugin can wiggle past that and serve old players . Otherwise logitech would had an official server plugin for old players themselves . Even if is technically possible that the Touch onboard server could decrypt a spotify stream (wich it already does) and send it to older players . Logitech is probably legaly bound to not do that by contract with spotify ? Also Touch can not handle Slimp3 or SB1 but that is really old players, almost none uses them anymore -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] touch + spotify = no computer needed ?
The Touch's inbuilt server is capable of Syncing far more than two additional players. If Spotify has a player limit on Sync'd number of players I dunno. Spotify will only play on the Touch or the Radio, older SB players cannot play the official Spotify App. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86532 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Numptie Appeal for Help Please
Hi Guys, Shame on some of you - you obviously didn't keep everything crossed overnight, as requested. This morning the screen had defaulted to it's usual (for me) screen with no 'Now Playing' or cover art displaying. Another thing which might be relevant is that when setting it up yesterday I changed the background (wallpaper) but this morning the previous wallpaper was on screen. I started off the thread asking if I had got (another) faulty Touch and this incident does nothing to persuade me that I haven't. My first Touch behaved impeccably at all times EXCEPT that it had a loose power jack connection which meant that it lost power if ANYTHING near it was moved. It was changed without question by Logitech direct for this one but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm unlucky again. I have done another Factory Reset and am now listening to internet radio - so far it is behaving as it should - I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Dave. -- DaveKen DaveKen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34139 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85697 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
