This is the reply from Nuforce support: Dear Customer, Yes, the DAC-9 supports USB audio class 2. Anything greater than 96kHz is class 2, and our devices conform to it. If you need any further assistance, please contact us. Thank you, I don't think they understood my question :( shkorc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=57025 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
Now that Logitech is no longer developing or selling the Squeezebox line, including Touch --- does this mean this code development is done too? Did you have plans for any further enhancements, that are now altered because of these market events? What are your thoughts on logitech pulling the plug on SBT, if you don't mind saying so. This whole thing has depressed me -- the Squeezebox products have been fantastic...and this EDO plugin is phenomenal. Now, all these things..lost in time ...like :( Now I am thinking to get a spare Touch before they are goneI don't know what I'd do if my SBT becomes inoperative, and was not fixable via logitech. jt25741's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8645 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Thanks! It does not look like anything is detected by linux - does the dac work with linux on a PC? It looks from their web site that the DAC requires a driver for Mac OSX - if it does then its likely it does not use standard usb audio protocols. I would recommend you ask the manufacturer if they support the UAC2 standard. I can confirm EDO is working with an Audio-Gd 15.1 (TE8802L chip) DAC/headphone amp using Kernel#11, thank you Triode for that! I then reset the Touch to factory defaults and applied the original kernel to try with my second DAC the Nuforce DAC-9. I repeated the setup steps like with the 15.1, except I didn't apply any of the other kernels. For some reason the DAC is not detected during a reboot. Coax works. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How long has your touch lasted?
I've had mine for 2 years (since the SB Touch was released). I've used it regularly, but turn off the power to the entire rig when not in use. I know this is a controversial topic. Some people say the turn on/off cycles are hard on electronics, but I am not sure if it is the case with the Touuch. Also, I have all screensavers set to blank to save the screen (in case I forgot to power down my entire system). I am worried that the display will die early if left on all the time. One of my SB Classics's screen has a lot of dead pixels (although it uses a different display technology). gmudunuri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34477 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96476 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Is the touch firmware in open source so one can mess with it? So there is no way to hook up to the power down command so one can tell the digital output to shut off? I thought your Screen Turn off plug-in is intercepting the off command as well? I'm hoping if you can find some way around this. BTW, found a bug in your Screen off plug-in. Normally, the backlight LEDs are off. If I pause the music and then resume, the screen will only turn black, but backlight LEDs are still on. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] HD direct or stream wifi
I ripped all my CDs usin WAV lossles and the hard drives on my SBT and Sony blu-ray are both back up copies of my original hard drive so the music files are exactly the same on all the drives. My pc i built for gaming Intel Core i7-2600K , Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67,Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) Sapphire 6990 + 6970,Samsung P2450H 24" Enermax 1000 watt,Lian Li v2000 case and its not exactly silent even though the cpu and amd 6990 are water cooled it has plenty of fans going just the quad radiator has 4 hehe so for serious listening i prefer the pc turned off and better still pc off lights out and a record on the Gyrodec. Ok then I get you . Then the volume controll is out of the picture and so are the RCA outs What kind of files btw WAV or FLAC , the replay gain setting can make subtle volume differences anyway this can be interpreted as "better" or "different". Do try this in some kind of blind test setup ? " normally " digital sources does not sound different if everything is ok . To a modern DAC of recent and technically competent design ( not NOS voodoo or some such ) a source has to be pretty horrible to make a difference . I,ve had DAC's that have been suspectible to source induced differences ( or maybe I thought soo at the time ,no real testing done , I was too audiophile back then ) but none of my modern >2000 equipment have behaved in that way ? Why blind , all humans are affected by cognitive bias ,such small differences drown in this in the typical audiophile sigthed testing when you know what you are listening to . But enjoy your squeezebox nevertheless . Yes a running computer is a nuisance if it is loud a audible from the listening position , my own server is quite small and not very loud and keept away from listening room in another room of my apartment . (I do not run LMs on my desktop I have a small Linux server for that ). I understand your problem ,sometimes the computer is close to where other people sleeps ? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] HD direct or stream wifi
Good idea with a powered hub, the Touch may have under performed if the HD used a lot of power from Touch's internal 5v . I don't know the exact design here and what it can tolerate however many external drives takes more amps than they should if they followed the USB specs :-/ I moderate my claim here * normally * they should sound the same , but I have no,idea how the analog out performs with a very high load on the USB 5v ? Btw did you make sure thatbthe volume where the same when trying the options ? And also did you use replay gain tags and squeezebox smart gain function ? To compare I would turn the squeezebox volume to 100% and don't use smart gain when comparing . Other hints: volume is digital this ok as it is in 24bits but use it in it's upper range for good sq Do try it with your XDAC :) all outputs are active at the same time spdiff ToS and analog , and volume applies to all outputs so 100% volume would be good if you want to compare to other digital sources . If the XDAC is good ,this migth be the best option :) if it has spare inputs . Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] HD direct or stream wifi
Thanks for the replies guys I do run the SBT through my Cyrus dacX but the reason i asked about hd direct is i have been using both methods but found streaming from pc via router sounded better than hd direct but my 1 tb hd is usb powered and yesterday i had a thought and dug out my old usb hub thats powered to try and the sound instantly improved and became very close now to the streamed sound. Seems the hd direct sound can be improved by adding the powered hub but its still not as good to my ears and was wondering what else could effect its performance and if you guys had any ideas for further tweaks to try. I do listen 12 hours aday using the pc but do like to listen later at night without the pc turned on so value the best sound i can get via hd direct. I haven't got the Touch or the Receiver to compare, but from the published pictures and measurements it seems the Touch is actually smaller in volume, but the placement of the connectors might make it a bit harder to fit in close quarters. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85717 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
Hi Triode, I just got this battery powered Legato II. The USB side is running StreamLength USB code by Gordon Rankin. It works great with EDO, but in order for it to go into charging mode when not playing music, SBT must tell it that music is not streaming. Or if USB power is cut, that would kick in the charge mode too. So is there a way for EDO to tell the USB device that you're not streaming just before SBT is turned off? If that is not possible, can EDO powers down the USB bus before SBT is turned off? Maybe this can be an optional parameters. Thanks for the great plug-in.
