Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch remotes getting sticky!
I just did my second one today. It's best to take it apart. This can be fiddly, but there are eight 'snaps' holding the thing together. I got a good thumbnail between the front and back parts, and managed to get one apart. I could then get a spudger in there and get the rest to pop. I think someone has put some pictures of the positions of these snaps somewhere on this forum. When you get it apart, rub the top part with a soft cloth soaked in Propan-2-ol (Isopropanol), and a lot of elbow grease. Don't use Acetone (nail varnish remover); that will remove the text and leave the surface looking horrible. Eventually it will all come off. Also, I scraped a lot of the stuff off first with a thumbnail. Finally, give it a wash with some dish soap, dry it, and give it a good polish. Good as new! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] FLAC converter
If you have already ripped CDs as .wav files, I would use Foobar 2000 to convert them to flac, using the same C:\flac\flac.exe as the encoder. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] FLAC converter
Hi Mike, The latest version of EAC is 1.3, from September 2016. I think that by default it already uses an instance of the flac encoder. You can also use an external flac encoder, as I do. Download the latest version of flac from: https://xiph.org/flac/download.html (Flac 1.3.2). I use the Windows 64 bit version, and extract both the 'flac.exe', and 'metaflac.exe' to a new folder at C:\Program Files\flac. You can then point EAC to this folder in Compression Options (F11): 28049 Then select 'Action_Copy Selected Tracks_Compressed' in EAC. It should compress each track after it has ripped it. In 'Additional command-line options' You can also specify the compression level and naming convention. +---+ |Filename: EAC.PNG | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=28049| +---+ Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110907 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch screen - text colours
I've changed the text colours in the Now Playing screen from the boring white (after all it is a colour screen). The song title is a nice yellow, while the album and artist are magenta and cyan (ish). As Erland said, you need to modify the /usr/share/jive/applets/WQVGAlargeSkin/WQVGAlargeSkinApplet.lua file (in WinSCP via SSH). Navigate to the NOW PLAYING part of this file, and look for lines that start fg = in 'nptitle', 'npartistgroup', and 'npalbumgroup' and change the values, i.e I use { 0xff, 0xff, 0x9F } for the yellow. I guess you could change other things as well. Do make a note of these changes, because they will be lost next time you update the firmware in the Touch. -- Percival Sweetwater Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94023 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch PSU Jack Plug
These so called DC Power plugs (which are actually line sockets) are a mess. There's no standardisation or anything. Look at this horrible lot: http://www.maplin.co.uk/dc-power-plugs-43084?c=froogleu=43084t=module. There are different inner and outer diameters, and different shank lengths. A friend of mine who has diabetes, had an electronic foot massager, to relieve his ailment. He lost the 5 volt DC wall wart down the back of the sofa, but found another power supply which had the same connector on the end. He couldn't get it to work, so I opened it. There was a hole blown in the PIC chip. God knows what voltage he put up its jacksy. -- Percival Sweetwater Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86001 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] TinySB incompatible with .jpg and .png ?
If the artwork files are excessively large it will take time for the Touch to resize them, anyway. I have made all my cover art 512 x 512 pixels, 72 pixels/inch. I believe this is the size that is displayed on the Touch screen. It is a bit of a pain resizing them all, but I don't have any problems even with 7.6 -- Percival Sweetwater Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85675 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Music really IS better sounding after changes
Don't see how the analogue cable between the DacMagic and the amp could make much difference, apart from placebo. The LC-1 cable boasts that it is of low capacitance (12.2pF/foot). The DacMagic has a specified output impedance of =50 Ohm. If a cheap cable of, say, 100pF/foot, 3 feet long were to connect the DacMagic to the amp, then the attenuation of the signal at 20kHz (upper frequency limit of good human hearing) would be around 0.016dB, due to capacitance. I doubt anyone could ever hear such a difference! Of course the cable has a finite inductance as well (which Blue Jeans omit to specify). Wouldn't have thought this would make a lot of difference either. Of course, it makes sense to use good quality cable with good shielding for noise immunity. I would guess that the DacMagic is very close to the amp and wouldn't need a cable more than 1 foot long. -- Percival Sweetwater Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85449 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering
My startup delay is set to 2 and it was still rebuffering. Today I also updated to 7.6.0 - r31795 and lo and behold no rebuffering at all! I tried to break it but it stood firm. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering
Hi, I am having the same rebuffering problem. I'm using the Touch (7.6) with a Sheevaplug (Squeezeplug) as the server with a 1TB WD essentials USB HD for storage. All my files are FLAC (-3 compression). I have altered the self.decodeThreshold variable in usr/share/jive/jive/audio/Playback.lua from 2048 to 16384, and this improves the situation greatly, although the initial time to buffer is increased (obviously, as the buffer is now 8 times larger). I have still noticed that when selecting a new album, often it will start playing the first song for a second or two, then it will stop and load the album art, and then the song will start up again from where it left off. I am thinking that if the album art (if present) would load first and complete before filling the music buffer, then this would not happen. I am not sure where the buffer for album art is, or how to acheive this. Does anyone know the size of album art that does not need resizing at all on the Touch? This would reduce the time taken to load the album art to a minimum. I also have a good ol' Squeezebox 1 which used to also have similar rebuffering problems using a Windows XP box for the Squeezebox server. -- Percival Sweetwater Percival Sweetwater's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84612 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
