[SlimDevices: Touch] Will this setup work?
I have had incredible issues with my Touch when my external hard drive is directly connected to the Touch. My Touch is hard-wired to my internet. Last night, I attached my hard drive to my laptop and ran the server through my laptop (wireless). Worked beautifully. Squeezeplay worked beautifully as well. But I don't want a hard drive connected to my laptop, so here's what I'd like to do: Connect my hard drive to my old desktop (bought in 2003). Run the Squeezebox Server off of my desktop. I'm confident that my Touch will work well. But here's the thing I want to be able to do. I want to be able to control the Touch remotely using my laptop (and Squeezeplay). Will that work? I'm wondering if Squeezeplay only works on a computer that is also running the Squeezebox server. Thank you. -- crimscrem crimscrem's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80544 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I've decided, for the time being, to just live with the incredible slowness of it all. Once it pulls up an album and starts playing, I don't have any problems. And I've decided to live with the fact that when I hit song B on album B, it'll play song c, thereby requiring me to pull up the playlist and select song A. I'm hoping that playlists work well. Otherwise, the thing is going to be pretty worthless for parties. Another thing is that I've been incredibly disappointed with logitech's customer support. The last 4 people I have spoken with have very, very limited knowledge about their own product. And Tier 2 support is nonexistent. -- crimscrem crimscrem's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78538 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I used mediamonkey to fix the tags of songs. You can do them album at a time. In other words, you can select all the songs on the album and then tag them with the album art all at the same time. Unfortunately for me, I have about 1100 albums to go. Don't give up on the touch yet, it's early days and as we know from the other squeezebox products the software is improving with each release. Are the issues with staying connected to an external hard drive by USB and issues many seem to be having with processing/scanning large amounts of music something that can be fixed with a software upgrade? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] A few questions before buying the Touch
There was talk earlier in this thread about large collections and how they perform on the Touch. What is considered to be a large collection? I have about 23,000 songs (600 GB) on an external HD connected via USB to the Touch. It'll take at least 40 seconds to get a song selected to play. Once it plays, there are no problems as it moves through the album. If I try to select a song from a different album, while a song is playing, then it either slows down and I get a message saying the Touch is trying to connect to the USB or it pulls up the album after about 40 seconds or so. I have no idea why this is happening. The scan was completed without any interruptions. -- crimscrem crimscrem's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78141 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Rescan SBS from Touch Interface
I think you can do this one of a few ways. 1. Factor reset through the Touch menu. First, properly eject the USB. Then, go Settings --- Advance --- Restore Factory Settings. Once it boots up again, then attached the drive. 2. Do the same as above, but after ejecting the USB, then hit the factory reset button above the power plug in. 3. And option, this is what I think you're going for: Settings --- Advance --- Squeezebox Server --- Stop Squeezebox Server. then go back through the same way and start the Squeezebox Server. It'll give you a Wipe and Rescan option. -- crimscrem crimscrem's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78177 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

(And yes, firmware is up to date.) I did try it with a 2 GB USB flash drive and it all worked very nicely. Since the Touch works extremely well for the purpose I bought it for, I'm pleased. However, I can't say I'm impressed with the Tiny SBS function, especially since this was the cause of the four month delay in product release. I have a 1.5 TB Western Digital Elements external hard drive. The scanning process is not bad. But I'm having a lot of trouble with the Touch staying connected to the hard drive by USB. [SlimDevices: Touch] So, I'm having problems with my Touch. User error?
I have a little over 600 GB of music stored on a WD Elements 1.5 TB hard drive. I have that directly connected to my Touch. My entire reason for getting the Touch was so I would not have to use my laptop. My Touch is directly connected to my router (i.e., not using wireless). I'm having two problems. One is with album art. The second is with speed. First problem: That 600 GB of music contains album art. The music that I ripped named all the album art folder.jpg. These have always show up on my Touch without any problems. The music I received from a friend has all the album art named as coverart.jpg. I understand that coverart.jpg is a name that the Touch will not recognize. So I changed all of them to folder.jpg. I did a wipe and rescan on the Touch. Still no art. Any suggestions on what I need to do now? Second problem: My Touch is operating really, really slowly. It is taking upwards of 40 second to a minute before a song plays. (These are songs stored on the connected HD.) Any suggestions on why? Plan of action: I plan to do a factory reset to see if that will work. I'm hoping it will because as is, the Touch is not usable for me. I'd really like to hear your suggestions/advice. FWIW, in the last couple months I've had intermittent trouble with a WD Caviar Green drive in my DVR / SBS server. When the problem occurs, 'top' shows high iowait percentages. Apparently the fix might be as simple as 'partitioning the drive carefully' (http://forums.opensuse.org/get-help-here/install-boot-login/437111-iowait-slows-system-down-2.html#post2154647). One annoying factor for me is that the drive caused no trouble for the first couple months I had it in service. If I had very specific instructions, I would be comfortable. When I use my laptop to see what devices are connected to my network, I see the following: logs media-sda1 media-sdb1 media-sdc1 media-sdd1 printers All must stuff is in the sda1 folder. Do you know if there's a way for me to do a global change of all files in a folder? For example, I'd love it if there was a way for me to run a command where every file named coverart.jpg in my music folder is changed to folder.jpg? Moved the old Receiver down stairs and dropped a Toslink cable down through the wall. And he put a pair of powered speakers in the dining room ceiling off of the RCA outs while he was fishing cables in the wall. Coax to new HT Receiver of course. Three zones for the price of one Squeezebox. Of course the Zones all have to play the same song since it is really one big zone, but it does what he wants it to. The Master Bedroom is offset right above the Kitchen so he is putting a Touch in the wall of the Master Bedroom, dropping the RCAs down the wall to the MS whole house Intercom System AUX In (3m RCA pair reaches with room to spare) and bringing the Coax Out to a small Receiver with built-in DAC in the bedroom. I hope Logitech releases the wall mount soon and its the same size as the beta ones as he used my Touch Wall Mount to make his cutout already. His Touch should be here this week, just waiting to hear about the wall mount. He has an iPhone with iPeng to control it all with. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
garym;535857 Wrote: OK. let's take it one step at a time. First, any squeezebox product needs to talk with a squeezeboxserver (SbS). There are basically two ways to do this. One is to run a local version of SbS. A second approach is to connect to the network version of Sbs, which is now called mysqueezebox.com (mysb.com). If you are using the network, mysqueezebox.com approach, you can only do things like listen to internet radio, pandora, etc. You can't listen to your own music files if strictly connected to mysb.com. So I assume you want to listen to your own music. But even if using your local SbS, you'll still need to sign up for a mysb.com account. Within your local computer SbS, you'll need to add those credentials (SbS Settings mysqueezebox.com tab). The Touch does add a twist. The local SbS can now either be on a computer within your home network or the TOUCH itself runs a limited version of the SbS server. I don't have a TOUCH yet, but you should just have to plug your USB drive into the TOUCH and give it some time to scan the drive adding the tracks to the internal SbS system. You can switch back and forth to (1) mysb.com (2) SbS on your local network computer or (3) SbS on the Touch. No need for (1) because as long as you are running SbS locally (own computer or the touch) you get all the same mysb.com stuff. It sounds like you are trying to use the internal SbS software on the touch AND you've installed SbS on a local computer. Make a decision about which approach you prefer. Using the internal touch SbS means you don't need your computer on 24/7. But accessing the Touch via the web is slightly more complicated. With this background, let us know a little more about what you're trying to do, what errors, if any you're getting, etc. and folks here can help. p.s. welcome to the forums. You'll find it useful. Thank you for the welcome and your prompt advice. I am able to connect to mysqueezebox now. Went through settings to switch to mysqueezebox. So I'm able to get internet radio through mysqueezebox remote on my laptop. And as you said, I could not get to any of my music on the external hard drive. What I'd like to be able to do is have the option of playing/controlling my music stored on the external hard drive with my laptop. How do I do that?
