Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
Just did some more experimenting (with 7.7.3). When I select digital out using coax or USB out, I can get 192khz. When I select digital+analog I can only get 96khz on coax (i.e. the same as a non-EDO SBT). For the moment, I am leaving EDO installed as it increases my options, although it doesn't solve the lost music problem entirely. Having said that, when I played one of my two native 192khz FLAC albums I hit the limits of my WiFi. Lots of dropouts. This does not bode well for DoP until I can figure out a practical way to connect the SBT via Ethernet. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
This has probably been answered in this thread but my search didn't find it. In the testing I did earlier today, it appeared that selecting that as a source activated the coaxial, optical and analog connections simultaneously, but not the USB connection. Query as to (1) whether it can transmit frequencies higher than 96 kHz through either digital connection and (2) if I can use either of those connections for DoP? john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Just FYI - after installing the EDO, I did try the kernel updater, changing the buffer size, and the different cable connections. They did not solve the problem. And one tweak caused the machine to shut down, requiring me to unplug and replug it. I took that as a sign. I also sent an e-mail to Teac support. Maybe the fix will be in some forthcoming firmware upgrade for the DAC. For the moment, I'm simply going to live with this nit. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I understand it is the DAC, but short of sending that back, my only option is to find settings on the SBT that play nicely. And after trying a number of settings and connections, I have reluctantly concluded that the EDO is not a complete solution for me. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

The install worked, and using the USB connection reduced, but did not eliminate, the problem. Instead of losing a second or two of music, I was losing a fraction of a second - say, the attack on the first note - and only when I went from redbook to hi rez, not the other way around. But it still irritated me. After some reflection, I uninstalled EDO, as for the near term, my best workaround is to keep both analog and digital outputs active. (Note - is that now possible with EDO? The original post said no, but, it appeared to be an option.) That way, for focused listening to a hi rez recording, I can switch and simply restart the first track. For playlists (which for me means background listening) I'll continue to use the Touch's analog outputs. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I saw this article, which led me to believe that 7.8 was at least preferable, if not necessary. http://www.easysqueezebox.com/index.php/articles/dsd-files-on-squeezebox-an-introduction/ I do have the ability to use JRiver to create DoP files. But in any event, before I head down this path, I'm hoping for some insight on the compatibility of EDO with my DACs. I note several rather confusing (to me) posts relating to kernel 12, some of them apparently arising after the user moved to 7.8. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Announce: Enhanced Digital Output app - USB Dac and 192k Digital Ouput
I did a little research, but with a 197 page thread, I may have missed something. :) I recently purchased a Teac UD-301 DAC t use with one of my SBTs. (I also recently purchased a UD-501 for my other SBT.) I quickly discovered that when I connect the two with either an optical or coaxial cable, the DAC takes a second or two to adjust to a change in frequency (-e.g.- when I play a 96/24 file after a 44.1/16 file), and a I lose a bit of the music. (This does not happen with the UD-501.) One way around this might be to install the EDO and use a USB connection. However, a search of this thread reveals there have been some problems in the past getting the EDO to work with the Teac UD-501. Have the problems with the 501 been resolved? Has anyone tried it with the 301? By the way, my Squeezeboxes are currently running 7.7.3. Because the Teac DACs can handle DoP, I may be moving to 7.8 or above soon. john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Duplicate entries on memory card
I have a SanDisk 16 GB memory card, which holds a number of albums loaded from iTunes (256 kbps). When I insert it in either of my Squeezebox Touches, and look at the tracks for a given album, each track is listed twice. I double checked the contents on my computer which confirms that each track only appears once on the disk. FYG - I also have a flashdrive, which does not show the same behavior. Any idea what might cause this? john greenwood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95746 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

The A2s benefit significantly from placing them on sloping stands (pointing upwards) at least for nearfield listening.
