nicolas75;554075 Wrote: I got the same problem sometimes. I found this is due to the fact that the background image is darker on the bottom side than on the upper side. Normally the selected item is often marked dark, and in the middle of the screen. If you look at it when you are seated, the bottom side of the screen is dark, the selected item is dark, and you have the feeling that the first upper line is the selected one. This is especially true when you use the menus with the remote. I guess a more uniform background image is better. (Don't know if this is clear ...) Perfectly clear. This was brought up so many times during the beta testing that eventually everyone gave up on commenting about the poor design. Someone created a wiki article describing how to change the highlight color by making new images. This was for the Controller, but it should be nearly identical for the Touch. I think you'd just need different sized images. http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Changing_the_Squeezebox_Controller_Highlight_Color http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75195 -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79057 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Brightness Logic
Hi guys Thanks for all your helpful information. I think I found the issue. As you already figured out there are two channels. Channel zero measures visible and infrared light whereas channel one only measures infrared and is meant to compensate for the infrared part in channel zero. The manufacturer of the ambient light sensor provides a formula to calculate a lux value from the two channels. It looks like the formula is incorrect when there is only infrared light reported on channel one (channel_zero = 0 and channel_one 0). Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Brightness Logic
After learning about the Factory Test - Ambient Light Sensor, I've taken a look there, but for me I've seen the values stay at 0 when it's dark in the room. No high numbers. However the problem seems to have also disappeared. Only once now (in fact the first time) did it happen so that I turned the room lights off, and the Touch display remained bright. So I went to see what the sensor values were, they were reading at 0, but then the Touch suddenly turned dim. This was no gradual change like it normally does, but rather a flip-of-a-switch kind of changing to very dim. I have not seen that behaviour since. But also, my Touch seems to be very obedient in relation to the ambient light level now. My own speculation is that maybe the sensors don't get initialized properly or the reading fails somehow, and going to the Factory Test / Ambient Light Sensor initializes them properly so that the Touch works correctly after that. Only this doesn't match what anyone else is observing, at least from what I read here. I should note that I tend to turn off the power from the device if I don't need it, so it goes through frequent hard resets. The reason why I do want it on at night time is to have the go-to-sleep and also the alarm functionality. I'll keep reporting my observations, if there's anything new. -- Wizzu Wizzu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36045 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79057 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Being a programmer I'm suspecting that the 65529 is the sensor going negative but being interpreted incorrectly somewhere and the most significant bit being treated as unsigned so its getting a very large number instead of a negaive number. This is just a guess and I'm sure that most forum readers will not know what I'm trying to say. I'm hoping that this information will be usefull to one of the developers, of course I can be completely wrong. Both channels are behaving this way. When the lights are on the value for the channels always stay positive. I think you may be right. (or at least something similar). It doesn't do it for me so I can't test it. Its probably the interface between the C code that implements the device driver and the lua code, that would be the most likely place for something like signed to unsigned to happen. Both C and lua should handle it properly on their own but there is always a chance for such things to happen at the interface. I'll try and remember to look at this issue this weekend. I've run across the code for this before so I know where to look. If it in lua code than it can be patched and someone who has the problem can try it. If its in the C code that takes a new firmware release. My guess is that there is an analog light sensor feeding am ADC which has a reference voltage so darkness on the sensor comes out as zero count. Manufacturing tolerances on either the sensor or ADC or voltage reference are causing the count to go negative. If this is the case then some people will have the problem and others will not. And it probably is temperature dependent. That might be an interesting test for those that have the problem, try it at hot or cold temperatures and see if the behavior changes. Hopefully the fix is just clamping to zero before converting to unsigned or clamping and leaving signed. Wizzu;550788 Wrote: I'm seeing this kind of issues too with my Squeezebox Touch. When I turn off the lights in the room, sometimes the display dims but then lights up again. Sometimes it just lights up immediately. The most interesting effect has been after turning of the lights and waiting a while, when the Touch would fluctuate between bright and dark. First it would light and then immediately dim, wait a few seconds, then repeat. Eventually it settled on the bright. I've seen this a couple of times. Manually I can adjust the brightness to very dim (actually I'd like it even dimmer than what seems to be the lowest setting), but then it's unusable when the room lights are turned on. There's no separate values for turned on and turned off brightness levels like there used to be. And there's no direct brightness adjustment button on the remote now. :( So manual brightness is not really a solution, I don't want to keep adjusting it every time when I turn the device on or off. I hadn't really noticed that when I originally posted but I do have the same problem sometimes where it goes dark/bright a few times and finally settles on bright when the lights are off in the room (the opposite that I would expect). Since this is in my bedroom it's very annoying. I think that I'm going to put my Classic back until this bug is fixed. Overall, at least for my uses, I'm preferring my old Classic anyway. I have 3 Booms and 3 classics here and so far I've been dissapointed in the Touch - at least for my use. I really have no use for the Touch stand-alone. Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm also having a very hard time telling which of the multiple items on the screen is actually the selected item so I keep choosing the wrong one. The only thing that I prefer on the Touch so far is the album art but I'll take better functionality over pretty color album art any day. I'm hoping that some day the software / firmware for the Touch is good anough that I prefer it over the classic. I also miss SuperDateTime and I don't have the time that I used to have searching these message boards so I guess I'll wait for a while and revisit this in the future. -- fred7 fred7's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6523 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79057 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Brightness Logic
There is a decrease in brightness about 15 seconds after you stop using the screen. Is this what you are refering to? This is supposed to increase the life of the screen backlight by not running it at full maximum all the time. If you are seeing other random changes in brightness try running manual brightness and see if that fixes the problem. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Brightness Logic
Its definitely not supposed to be doing that. On mine it does what its supposed to. When the room gets brighter, the screen gets brighter. Have you tried the manual control? Does that do what you expect? What type of lights and how are you changing the intensity? Are you turning lights on and off or are you using a dimmer? I could envision a situation where a dimmer controlling fluorescent lights could confuse the sensor. A common dimmer pulse width modulates the electricity to the light and the senseor is taking multiple readings per second. I can envision those two interacting with each other to cause strange effects. I'm just turning the light on and off. The manual control works but I want it to get darker when the room is dark automatically so I don't to use manual. I wanted to see if other people were having this problem before I try to fix it but it seems specific to me. I'll try to do a factory reset and also look for reflections or something like that which may be interfering.
