Long ago I wrote up some of my notes on how to find stream URLs (see the link below) and smoe others added/modified parts of it when it used to be a Wiki. However, nowadays it is much easier to use a browser and watch the network traffic when you play the stream from their web site. It is not foolpproof but often works. e.g. in Chrome - right click on the page that is playing the stream and choose "Inspect" then click on "Network" in the new section that appears on the right - and then start playing - then look at what it captured. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
Final update: The intermittent buzzing problem is finally now gone, re-installing the firmware did the trick, happy days! This does not make much sense as there were times when the Touch worked perfectly for 2-3 days at a time, while at other times it would start the dreaded buzzing after just a few minutes. A second fault that occurred at random was failure to switch on - resetting to factory defaults had no effect. I reinstalled the firmware as a last resort because nothing else I did worked. The reasoning was that if the firmware update had been corrupt from the beginning, nothing would have worked. But since the re-installation there have been no further problems with the Touch, so it might be worthwhile for those who do experience odd inexplicable problems with their Touch devices to simply update their firmware again even though you may already have the latest version of firmware. -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
A quick update on this buzzing interference: Once again yesterday morning the Touch began the dreaded "BUZZING" sound (internal speaker as well as to the AVR into which it was passing audio) and I switched the AC power off to the unit, this being the only thing to do to stop this interference. It did this three times within an hour and the last time when I restored the AC power to the power adaptor, the display remained dead while the Toslink LED was burning brightly. A few more on/off cycles got it going again and I figured I had tried everything I could think of, including verification of the wi-fi signal and resetting the unit back to factory default settings a number of times, all to no avail. I figured there was one thing I had not tried as I could not see it would be of any help but I had nothing more to lose. I re-installed the version7.7.3.r16676 Firmware, figuring this was a waste of time. Well... for the first time ever, the Touch has so far been running continuously for more than 30 hours without any hiccups of any kind, the dreaded Buzzing seems to be gone, the unit is working absolutely 100% as it was designed to do. So it appears that somehow there was a glitch in the original firmware update, not something that I had expected as there were times that everything was good. Touching wood that I do not have to update this post with more problems arising... :) -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
OK, sorted with opening the unit without any damage. Nothing really serviceable in there as I had suspected but wanted to follow the voltage trail from the power socket. While doing so, the unit woke up and is working once again. Unfortunately the intermittent buzzing sound is back, solved only by unplugging the Touch for a while. The noise is reminiscent of "White Noise" more than anything else and completely drowns the audio output. -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
The Touch still displayed the buzzing problem but not as frequently as before. I was hopinjg the problem would solve itself and just go away, but this did not happen. What did happen is that the Touch worked 100% last night but this morning the display is completely dead, the unit does not power on although the red optical light does burn so it is receiving power. The transformer unit is fine, it works perfectly on my SB Classic. I removed the stand (2 screws) as well as 2 tiny screws apparently holding the casing together. Before I actually prise the unit apart, is there anything I should be aware of such as ribbon cables or whatever that could become damaged by opening the casing? -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I had everything on hand except the correct size DC power socket. The audio is fed to the amp using plain RCA stereo leads. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
I have the feeling that the cause of the noise was something to do with the data from the wifi getting into the audio stream. No idea how, of course. So far, it has behaved perfectly since the factory reset. Regarding the speaker, after I reset the Touch to factory defaults, it played quite a pleasant little musical tune while booting up, something akin to the Windows start-up theme of a few years ago. When it made that terrible din, I switched the amplifier off quickly and the same buzzing sound (buzzing not quite the correct word here, more like a standing under a harsh waterfall as I previously alluded to) emanated from the unit's speaker itself. -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I have yet to find out why, as it happens so infrequently. I think my circa 70's amplifier has a ground issue somewhere, maybe it changes with heat, who knows. The SB power supplies are all switching, so they are electromagnetically noisy as well. fingers crossed that your mystery resolved itself :), but if it does reappear, and you can recreate it, swap things out, even the outlet it's plugged into, items nearby that might be radiating EMI, the touch power supply, the amplifier you are using, try the analog instead of digital out, stream internet, local media, etc. Just keep swapping until you can eliminate some of the possible causes. I took it to the office this morning and all was fine for about 2 hours before the dreaded rushing noise again, from both the amplifier connected to the Touch as well as the Touch's built-in speaker. Again the only way to kill this was to unplug the unit from the power source. I then tried to "refresh the wifi network" (or whatever it was called) and this resulted in no wifi connection at all. Drastic measures were called for: I first tried a factory restore using the advanced settings menu, this solved nothing. I finally tried a hard factory restore (holding the button at the back of the unit above the DC connector in while restoring power) and happy days - the wifi now worked after re-entering my password. I have two systems, LMS on PcP, multiple players, but I setup a touch for a "non technical" friend with tinyLMS and a USB stick with music (mentioned earlier in this thread). When ever anything goes goofy with my system (or my friend's which I support via the phone :)), even if it's just re-buffering, loss of stream connection, etc. I switch internet stations, switch services, switch to my library, switch to mysb.com, just to try to localize the issue. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
So a new problem appeared last night when I was quietly listening to WSFM at a low-level volume. After about half-an-hour, the Touch went ballistic, producing a very harsh and high-level mix of a very loud buzzing sound with what almost sounded like carrier noise, very, very loud, scaring the hell out of me at the time. The only way I could stop this was by physically unplugging the AC power supply. The Touch would not respond to any of the remote control commands such as reducing the volume or even trying to switch the unit off. When I plugged the power back in after a few seconds, all was good and I could select stations again - for about 10-15 minutes then a repeat performance of this incredibly loud sound, much akin to a heavy thunderstorm with hail on a bare corrugated iron roof. This happened five times and then I gave up and went to bed. I have not tried it today because we had an electrical storm this afternoon and I did not want to risk frying my VDSL modem or anything else. What I did do was to check the Walmart type power supply and it seems fine, DC voltage is 4.94v and there is no sign of any AC ripple on the DC output. Has anybody ever experienced this? This throws quite a damper on the brand-new (albeit some 8 years old) SB Touch unit. -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

WSFM seems to be part of the iHeart Radio group of station which may affect Tune-in listings - iHeart prefers users to go through their App. As an example how a local LMS can help a bit. 1. Station can be found using the iHeart plugin 2. WSFM has HLS as well as http/AAC streams. Same quality (about 48kpbs AAC) but HLS has metadata for tracks/artists but need PlayHLSv2 plugin to get those. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
I only had TuneIn installed but have now installed Radio Tunes and RadioFeeds UK & Ireland. I played a bit more with TuneIn radio and am slowly finding my choice of music - mainly 60s to 80s. I find it odd however that the same radio station has different names on different hardware, all of which utilise the TuneIn app. Gold London on my Yamaha Network radio is exactly the same radio station known as Capital Gold 1548 on the Touch. It's no wonder I cannot fond my favourite IR stations! I am still looking for WSFM 101.7 from Oz but pretty sure I will find it if I stopped selecting every second radio station with an interesting sounding name :) Also need to find All Hit Radio, presumably they broadcast from London. All in all, I am very happy with the Touch, should have bought this years ago! -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
Received the Touch yesterday, sorted the WiFi out and the Touch immediately started to update its firmware. I then opened an account on the Server, installed the TuneIn App and it works like a charm! Only concern is for some reason the TuneIn App does not show nearly the amount of IR stations that any other device does, but it's early times still, will play with it some more. This SB Touch was brand new: its packaging had never been opened before, I cut the taped seals on the packaging and interesting to find that the plastic cling film really did cling to the unit and also remote after being packed away for some 7 years, was a bit finicky to remove. The Duracell batteries did not survive, they had turned to a white powder which even attacked the plastic wrapper containing them but luckily no damage elsewhere. All in all, I think I am going to enjoy this product. -Eric ews2k's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69845 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
ews2k wrote: > ..If I understand you correctly, the Touch cannot log in > directly to the TuneIn website, it has to work through the LMS? > Eric Correct. All SB players are basically dumb clients requiring a server to function. Either MySB.com server online or LMS server on a computer (or as suggested the built in, but quite limited Tiny server on the Touch). Accessing TuneIn directly would otherwise require a browser, which no SB player has. Also as suggested you can connect the SB player to the full LMS running on a small low power computer. This will circumvent the https limitation on MySB.com. However I believe even using LMS would be of little use in regards to internet radio streaming if/when MySB.com finally shuts down. Your player connects to LMS and LMS connects to (uses and is dependant on) MySB.com. If you have an old laptop laying around, Win or iOS, just use that as your dedicated LMS server (if even needed). Or just buy a cheap used laptop, even an old Win7 or WinXP for $50 on eBay or Craigslist or OfferUp. For such simplistic LMS only usage the older "unsupported" operating systems are just fine. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
The SB Touch *does* have it's own inbuilt server (Tiny SB), you don't need to have Logitech Media Server (LMS) running on a PC, nor do you need to connect to mysqueezebox.com. But please note that this will not have any advantage over using mysb if you don't plan to use local music files. And it does not help with mysb's limitations mentioned by bpa. If you want to use LMS to enable https streaming, then you'll need something better than TinySB. -- Michael ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Food for thought... I have a spare raspberry Pi that I can set up for the job. PiCore apparently an application that runs with the Linux OS of the Pi. What version OS would you recommend for the Pi? (I am absolutely useless with Linux, I have to admit). piCorePlayer (or short pCP) is all the OS you need. -- Michael ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
Because it is depending on mysqueezebox.com and playing stations & podcasts direct from the source - there is a growing issues of https URLs. There is a growing number of stations /sources which are moving over to https ONLY URLs and SB Touch & Radio cannot play https directly - a local LMS will then be needed to proxy these URLs. The local LMS can be a very small system (typically Raspberry Pi, Odroid etc) with no files stored. With PiCoreplayer these small system are very easy to setup and require virtually no maintenance. Such a small LMS can also help play a wider number of station which have moved over to HLS or a plugin is required for best support. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
Thank you for this info, Toby. I have a couple of Denon Network receivers that used to work with vTune, the latter simply cancelled their service unless one pays an annual subscription. I did this, and the Denon works flawlessly since doing so. I have no objection should Logitech decide to do the same. (The newer Denons use TuneIn, no problems there). If I understand you correctly, the Touch cannot log in directly to the TuneIn website, it has to work through the LMS? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch and Internet Radio
Yes, this is primarily how I use all my SB devices including the SB Touch. No computer, no local server, streaming internet radio. Works great. However. this requires you connect to Logitech's www.MySqueezeBox.com server online and Logitech will some day shut this server down. When is unknown. Might be years from now or it might happen next week. As a long since discontinued product line we are all lucky Logitech has kept their online server going this long! :) Still works fine today and TuneIn is available (in fact TuneIn is the background service used by MySB.com for basic internet radio menus). toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111647 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
