Thanks for the troubleshooting suggestions, guys, and sorry I didn't revisit this thread sooner. The problem was the DAC in the NAD T754 receiver. It is supposed to handle 24/96, but for some reason it doesn't. I took the Touch to a friend's house and 24/96 worked fine sent to his DAC. I ended up keeping the Touch and at some point will upgrade the receiver. The Touch does sound a little cleaner than the SB3 it replaces, and my wife likes the display (clock). I'll stick to 24/48 files until I replace the NAD. The Touch plays 24/48 files without a problem, but when fed 24/96. with the SB3 (and I'm guessing the Roku2), since the SB3 can only handle 24/48, LMS was converting the 24/96 files to 24/48 on the fly. So the fact that the DAC worked with the SB3 doesn't mean that the DAC can actually handle 24/96. With the TOUCH, LMS is *not* converting the files to 24/48 and is feeding the 24/96 files to the DAC. I'm suspecting the DAC as well. To test, can you connect a laptop running something like foobar2000 to play the 24/96 files through your DAC? I believe the DAC is actually in a NAD receiver, I'm guessing its an AV receiver. I've got a T743 which I don't believe support 96 but newer of better NADs might. What model NAD is it? Yes it would be very unlikely that the digital would be broken in a way that only disabled 24/96 or 24/88.2 Have you tried both spdiff coax and toslink optical ? If the Touch is working fine by analogue but a digital connection to your DAC/Amp isn't working I'd think its more likely a problem with the DAC surely. Touch works just fine with 24/96 on digital outs, so something definitely not right with your player or something on your server. Touch plays FLAC natively. I'm assuming these are 24/96 FLAC? If ALAC or WAV, I'd double check my file handling settings in LMS Settings Advanced file types.I'm guessing that some automatic transcoding is going on with the SB3 (thus they are playing), but that's not happening with the FLAC (or whatever your 24/96 file is). Also, what is your LMS server running on? PC? Okay, I tried to play files via USB and SD. I used 3 FLACs, a 24/96, a 24/48, and a 16/44.1. Same deal - the 24/96 wouldn't play, the others would. Note that the Touch seems to think it is playing the songs...the display counts the seconds and the meters move as if music is playing. I just tried 24/96 through the headphone output and it works! The RCA analog outs work also with 24/96. So it seems the Touch can handle the files okay, but isn't sending a clean signal to the digital outs I suspect it's a firmware issue and hopefully not hardware failure. I'm running firmware Firmware: 7.7.3-r16662 and the unit asked to upgrade the firmware as soon as I hooked it up. I guess I'll try rolling back the firmware next, but will have to research it. The server is running on a dedicated PC with plenty of power and Debian for the OS. That shouldn't be an issue. The files shouldn't be an issue, as they play fine on other devices. Just a thought - how is the Touch connected - WiFi or Ethernet? I've noticed that if the WiFi signal strength is low the data can struggle to get through, especially for higher res files. If you are using WiFi it might well be that, with a less than optimal signal strength, it can handle 16/44 but not 24/96 (which is 3 times the bits/sec as 16/44). If that is the case home-plugs (or whatever they are called) might be the solution.
