Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
GNOME is the desktop environment Trisquel uses. So, from a visual standpoint, it's everywhere. GNOME is a huge collection of programs that form a cohesive environment (including such programs as: Nautilus, File-roller, Evolution, gedit, GNOME Terminal, GNOME Calculator, and many others), not just one program. So basically, when I say it's a GNOME setting, that means it's quite generic.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
Where is GNOME?
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
What do you mean, that it doesn't have any settings? When I left click on it, then click Time & Date settings, I get access to the settings. However, when I update them, they do not take effect on it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
1. Sorry, it wasn't logging off, but locking, so that I had to re-enter my password. Fixed using someone else's comment. 2. I am using vanilla Abrowser, but flash video player is buggy; there's static in the right corner of the video, and the video scroll bar doesn't work at all, and there is no fullscreen button. I suppose I'll need to look into whatever IceCat with HTML5 is. 3. I did this. When viewing the time in the window in System Settings, it shows AM/PM; however, the time on the taskbar still shows military time, stuff like 16:00.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
(Thanks for bringing me up to speed. I personally opted for a lighter window manager, guess it would be wise to not comment on this I'm not 100% sure.) There seems to be a related bug with a suggested workaround, [#13379].
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
I've never heard of Trisquel mini, so I think Trisquel. (1) Lock screen. Fixed. (2) Thanks, I'll look into that. (3) If I do that with ctrl or shift, I get a popup button named "about", which doesn't lead anywhere useful. If I do it using alt, I get the ability to move it, or to remove it from the panel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
I tried that, and it's still not fixed. Right now, the clock says 08:58, with no AM.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
First time I hear about a GNU installation doing "automatic log off". Is that possible? Lock screen is another thing.. For searching, viewing and downloading youtube vids I can recommend SMTube. The version in your repo is outdated and it won't work. You download the source code of the latest version here -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/smtube/files/SMTube/15.8.0/smtube-15.8.0.tar.bz2/download Just open the terminal and cd in the smtube directory (the one you extracted from the bz2) and type "make" Make sure you have all the dependencies installed. Being that SMTube is in your repo, the easiest way to do that is: sudo apt-get build-dep smtube. Once you compiled the source you go to the folder and just run the executable. By default smtube uses javascript and cookies. You can disable both in the folder /home/.config/smtube/ by setting javascript=false in smtube.ini and by setting cookies.ini to read only. cheers

> First time I hear about a GNU installation doing "automatic log off". Is that possible? I guess you could do that with configuring the powernap package that watches for inactivity to trigger the gnome-session-quit command (from the gnome-session-bin package).
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
Lock screen control is under "Brightness & Lock" in the System Settings. I don't think anything actually logs you out automatically. lembas: the Indicator Applet which Trisquel 7 uses by default doesn't have any settings. I think what moxalt suggested is what you want to do. (It's specifically under "Date & Time", by the way.) On a side note, you actually don't hold Alt while right-clicking anymore unless you're moving or deleting things. For everything else, it's just a right-click.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
1. No idea. I didn't even know that Trisquel logged itself off automatically. I've never experienced this myself. Anyone? 2. You should either just use vanilla Abrowser, in which case you will experience YouTube as in normal Firefox. Alternatively, you could use IceCat with HTML5 Video enabled. 3. This should work- you can change the time in the system settings- toggle on AM/PM as opposed to the 24-hour clock. You will not see a change immediately- if it's the morning. Wait till the time gets past 12:00 and you'll see the time reset itself to 1:00. Hopefully.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
Are you on Trisquel or Trisquel mini? (1) Do you mean actually log off or just lock screen? (2) These might be of interest https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/play-videos-without-using-flash#toc3 Please be aware of the privacy risks associated with using youtube (=google). (3) Have you tried right clicking the clock applet while holding was it Ctrl (or alt or shift)?
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
That's the global time and date settings for GNOME, not specific to the applet. But if you've got 24-hour time on your clock, then yes, it should definitely respond to it; my clock, which is also the Indicator Applet, shows AM/PM. I'd suggest following moxalt's suggestion of waiting for some time so it switches from AM to PM or vice-versa, and/or rebooting.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
Just in case you couldn't find Youtube in HTML: https://youtube.com/html5 Click "Request the HTML5 Player" and you'll be able to watch YT videos. This works in Abrowser, Icecat, Firefox, and several other web-browsers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do I... (three things)
interesting lembas, thx for the tip!
