I don’t know if it would be that much work to track in real time who gets what
clue. You’d just need a paper copy of the printed grid to write down who
answered what clue correctly, and I kind of assume they already have someone
taking detailed notes about what clues have been played and who got them
right/wrong in case there’s a technical glitch or a discrepancy in the scoring.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Re: British Jimmy Leaving 'LLS'

2022-10-18 Thread PGage
Was the apology public? I thought the piece said that Corden apologized to
the owner and the owner made it public. But I did not read the original
article so I may have missed something.

I eat out fairly often and try to always be forgiving of any problems.
Serving and cooking is a tough job. Plus I am not comfortable pissing off
people who handle food I am about to put in my mouth. My wife in the other
hand, while not a total Dick, takes the position that we are paying a
pretty high price for food and service, and if it is not as expected we
should make it known. The main result of all that is I tip a bit over
average.

I can’t remember a time, in a nice restaurant, where, if I politely brought
a problem to my servers attention it was not resolved quickly and
effectively, often with part or all of the order being put on the House.
The only time I can remember demanding to be given food for free is when we
were made to wait like an hour for the food which we then had no time to
fully eat as we had to get to the theater. The manager saw me getting upset
and rushed over to tear up the check. Afterwards I did feel a bit like a
jerk for overreacting, and went back the next day and apologized and
offered to pay. He refused but thanked me.

I was wondering about just this issue when watching Chris on that category.
Ken did give him the “You ran that category” acknowledgement, and aside
from anything else it seemed like eventually it would be a hell of a lot of
work for somebody to keep track throughout an entire board to see if one
player happened to get all the clues right when wildly out of order.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Inside Jeopardy podcast

2022-10-18 Thread Tom Wolper
I haven’t given up on the podcast just yet. I plan to listen through the
tournament of champions and then decide.

Two things from this week’s episode: when a contestant runs a category it
will only get recognized if the clues are responded to in sequence, in any
order. Last week Chris was bouncing around the board and managed to get
correct responses to all of the clues in a category in a fragmented way.
The producers decided that would no longer be recognized as a run.

In the Q someone asked about the minute warning. The producers are trying
to be as flexible as possible with the time for each board and gain nothing
by leaving clues unchosen. They can edit down the interviews for time but
they have a time limit to finish a round. The one minute warning is a
producer’s call and not set to a specific time.

What McNally did was obnoxious and unethical. He owns a private business
and if he wants to ban a customer for objectionable behavior, I have no
problem with that. But to shame the customer in public is over the line.

Corden’s public apology puzzles me. If he felt like he did something wrong,
his publicist could say it’s a private matter and he could make a private
apology to the restaurant owner and/or the staff. If he felt like he was in
the right, he could call out the restaurant for having substandard food and
service. A public apology just looks like he’s begging to be let back in.
