RE: [U2] UV 10 para Suse 9.2
Hi, I have tried a commercial edition of universe on suse 8.x - 9.2 I know that IBM certifies UniVerse to a certain product aka RedHat, but what they do state in the availability matrix is the demands on the version numbers for some of the libraries, and as long as you have recent versions og glibc you will be fine. If UniVerse runs on a redhat on kernel 2.4-18, then it will run under all other distros using that kernel, but it will also run perfectly under kernel 2.6, I have a full loaded system with 75 users running under debian sarge, and we havent had an unexpected stop yet. If you don't like to buy redhat you can opt for centos which is a true redhat enterprise system but without the logo of a hat!! One of the differences between redhat and the rest of the distros, is the directory layout and a few tools, so the installation script needs to be modified to work correctly, and you will also have to look manually at how to start UniVerse automagically at boot time. best regards from Denmark Claus Derlien > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Marc Hilbert > Sent: Saturday, March 19, 2005 11:10 PM > To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org > Subject: [U2] UV 10 para Suse 9.2 > > > Good afternoon to all. Re: [U2] UV 10 para Suse 9.2
I've used a 2 user licensed (NOT pe) UniVerse 10.1 on Gentoo, Redhat and SuSE 8.2 during my testing. As others have said, I've found it works just fine with just about any linux distro out there. I'm also betting that IBM would support it on most any of the mainstream distros as most of them are the same under the hood. You may have to tweak a couple of the startup scripts and make an adjustment or two to the install procedures, but after that it's all good. Currently, I'm running that very same 2 users license on a SuSE 8.2 system as a development tool. Granted, it's not servicing many users, but it has worked without incident for the past year. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
[U2] UniObjects Login Problem
For years now I have been using UniObjects (Java, vb and .Net) versions on an HP-UX server running UniVerse 10.0.6. In the past couple of weeks I have noticed that my login no longer works. I can still connect to the very same machine via telnet with the same login info. UniObjects however won't let me connect unless I use a different login. This all started after I changed my password. Does UniObjects cache login credentials somewhere on the system? I've tried restarting the system and have looked over the pam files for any changes (none found). Anyone have any thoughts or hints on this? Thanks, --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

RE: [U2] UV 10 para Suse 9.2
If an individual or internal IT department wants to take a risk of running UniVerse on unsupported platforms that is one thing. If a consultant implements a solution on unsupported platforms then they have a legal liability for anything that goes wrong. I have worked in the shipping industry and coal mine industry and if the payroll was late then unions would stop work at a cost of millions a day. That is a big liability to wear, so I would never recommend anyone to run on unsupported platforms. RE: [U2] Unix Print Commands...
slp -c132 -i0 -n <&1 cat - I need help understanding what the "<&1" does and how it all works with "cat -". OK... I'm not an HP-UX guy, but is that really all that's in the script? "<$1" tells the slp command to take the first argument of the command line as it's input. But this seems strange to me. UniVerse passes the UNIX user id in $1: $1 UNIX user ID of the user who spooled the job $2 Job ID of the print job $3 Size of the print job in bytes $4 Job description $5 Form assigned to the print job $6 UniVerse printer name $7 SETPTR (UNIX) line length $8 SETPTR (UNIX) page length $9 SETPTR (UNIX) eject flag (1 = EJECT, 0 = NOEJECT) Shift the argument stack down to reference the following two arguments: $1 SETPTR (UNIX) banner flag (1 = print banner, 0 = suppress banner) $2 SETPTR (UNIX) USEROPTS options On our system we create a unix and UniVerse printer. Our common driver is: - while [ ! -z "`lpstat -r | grep not `" ] do /etc/init.d/lp start sleep 30 done cat - | lp -o nobanner -d${Prnter} # End of Script This checks to see if lp is running, if not it starts it. It then shoots the input (-) to lp, suppressing the Unix banner, setting the destination to be the same as the UniVerse printer ID. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
RE: [U2] Unix Print Commands...
A quick search on google gave me the following site (which does a reasonable job of explaining redirection (which is what is happening here)... http://www.unix.org.ua/orelly/unix/upt/ch13_01.htm What I do is have the most basic filter to pass the data to the lp spooler, for example (hp/ux): lp -d acctg Which takes stdout from the calling program & passes it to stdin for the lp command... i.e. the flow would be: usd|lp -d acctg So the output from usd would pipe through to lp. When we come to setting up the printer as a network device I always use the native unix spooler to manage the requests; in that way we don't need any fancy scripting in the UniVerse driver file to pass the request onto a remote spooler. The flow would then be UniVerse Spooler ==> Unix Spooler ==> Remote Spooler Of course, the UniVerse spooler now only serves to take the spool request & pass it on (we lose a little visibility from the UniVerse side) but the Unix spooler has all the scripting required to handle the pass off to the remote spooler & handle errors. Re: [U2] [AD]UniObjects and LDAP user authentication.
Gordon, I was thinking about your problem further over the weekend. You can use our routines to authenticate from BASIC but I think that being unable to directly authenticate with UniObjects is going to make you jump through some hoops. You will need to have at least one local unix user on the UniVerse box so that UniObjects can login at all. This will give all your uniobjects users the same effective Unix Username and permissions (not sure how important that is at your site). Once logged in you can then call our LDAP routines to authenticate a user/password for access to the system. Our routines support simple and SASL MD5-HASH authentication, optionally over SSL (if you can make the U2 SSL sockets work at your site). I think this is a better solution than using LDAP on the webserver, because it is UV that decides if a user should have access but it is still an inferior solution to direct UOJ authentication because you have to write and maintain code to decide if a user is authenticated separate to UOJ. Problems with this setup are: - Will solaris allow the single UOJ user to be authenticated locally? (I would think this must be possible). - Can solaris configure the UOJ user so that it can only be used for UOJ (telnet, ssh, ftp etc disabled, setting a null shell would go part way but it would be nice to limit their login further). - You will need to store the UOJ username and password on the machine where the UOJ client runs (or distribute the username and password to all your users and have them authenticate twice). Both of these feel bad you decide which is less so. - If you use unix level security to segregate access to data you will need to play with the AUTHORIZE statement to change the effective user id of process. I just don't know if this will work from UOJ. Craig --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
RE: [U2] UniObjects and LDAP user authentication.
Guys, I might be wrong here, but is this not a U2 problem. Should IBM not fix the software so that all access to UV consistently uses the same security function calls so that the method of authentication is consistent across interfaces, and if you like transparent to U2. RE: [U2] [UV] Anyone using NETapp disk array for UNiverse on HPUX 11?
We run IBM FasTT600 Turbo FC controllers (now DS4300) on our servers. It is quicker than the old SCSI we used to have but I think most of the difference we've noticed is down to the 2gb cache rather than the speed differential of the connection. For our new server we've followed IBM's recommendation and gone for 80 physical disks (10 per cpu which is the minimum they recommend) this should really cut down on head contention which has been a major problem for us up to now. Also don't forget to use RAID 10 rather than RAID 5. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 21 March 2005 21:16 To: u2-Users Subject: [U2] [UV] Anyone using NETapp disk array for UNiverse on HPUX 11?
