Re: [U2] [UV] is there an equivalent to the UD ALL UniQuery keyword?
Or move LIST to VOCLIB, setup LIST as an R type in the VOC pointing to VOCLIB and use F4 in the R VOC entry to invoke a remote subroutine that can then modify the sentence. Regards Ian Stuart Ken Wallis wrote: Larry Hiscock wrote: How about just adding a phrase to each DICT called ALL that lists all of the D-type items? Or shall I put a trigger on the dictionary of every file that updates the ALL phrase whenever a D item is added or deleted? Thanks Larry, but I think I preferred the BASIC front end to LIST idea better. Cheers, Ken Ken Wallis wrote: A site I know is moving from UniData on VMS to UniVerse on UNIX. Don't ask why, they just decided that was the path they wanted to go down. Anyhow, they've got used to the ability in UniData to LIST filename ALL and see everything. They're a bit surprised that this doesn't work in UniVerse. Any ideas? Of course we could write them a BASIC program called LIST that scans the command for the keyword ALL and if it finds it, works out what ALL means in the context of that file before invoking the real UniVerse LIST with a modified command, but I'd like to exhaust other options first. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ ___ DISCLAIMER ___ This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. [U2] File to Table Mapping Uni Objects .NET
Hi I am new to Uni data and Uni Objects(.NET). I am not able to understand how the mapping between files and tables is performed in unidata. For example when I access the UniData database through ODBC I can access the table Zee, but when I access the database through Uni Objects it requires that the developer should know the name of the file in which the table resides. I think that there may be a file exists in which the information about this mapping is present. Does somebody tell me how to get the above mapping information. RE: [U2] [UV] is there an equivalent to the UD ALL UniQuery keyword?
Unfortunately, LIST-ITEM is just a raw record dump and does not display field names (just numbers) and does not apply the appropriate conversions for numbers, dates, times, etc. I like letting REVISE build the @REVISE item- why not call it from a trigger whenever the dict is updated? Or you could probably make an I-type VOC item called ALL or @ALL that parsed the dict and displayed all the fields in a pretty way- but that's still a lot of work to re-create something that UD already does for you. /Scott Ballinger Pareto Corporation Edmonds WA USA 206 713 6006 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mats Carlid Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 12:43 AM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: Re: [U2] [UV] is there an equivalent to the UD ALL UniQuery keyword? Re: [U2] File to Table Mapping Uni Objects .NET
Zishan, On our system the files are the tables. I would do something like this to get some records. LIST ORDER WITH CUST.NUM=00012345 ORD.NUM WRITTEN.BY BY ORD.NUM to achieve similar results to select ord.num, written.by from order where cust.num='00012345' order by ord.num I hope this is helpful. I think that there may be a file exists in which the information about this mapping is present. Does somebody tell me how to get the above mapping information. RE: [U2] OT: Hard drive failure
What I did was removed the hard drive, placed it into an external enclosure (USB). Then on another PC, ran ACRONIS Disk Imager. It can create a duplicate image on another drive of the hard drive. What is nice about it (oppsed to Norton ghost) is it will ignore drive errors (bad tracks and such). After my drive crashed, I only lost a few files. www.acronis.com (they have both a linux and Windows file format version) PS. How my hard drive crashed was an interesting story... I stopped using my laptop as mobile, and sat it above my monitor on one of those stands, problem was it was tilted about 30 degrees. After about 9 months or so, I moved the laptop to a 0 degree surface. The hard drive was so used to spinning at the old angle it wouldn't work and crashed. When I was recovering the driver, I had to actually hold the bad drive at a 30 degree angle for anything to be able to be read. so...if you use your laptop as a desk PC for any extended period of time (mine was apx 9 months), make sure it's a flat 0 degree surface. PPS. Ever since then, I backup my laptop weekly now :) using the imager -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Larry Hiscock Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 12:25 PM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: [U2] OT: Hard drive failure I have a client whose hard drive in his laptop has failed. Has anyone seen or attempted to create a UD terminal emulator with vb6 and UniObjects? What control would you use as the emulator? TextBox? PictureBox? WebBrowser control? How do you handle the terminal definition? Do you actually scrape the screen, then display the results (perhaps in a picturebox), then capture keystrokes and display them? [U2] UD Terminal Emulator using UniObjects
The following company sells an activex control and a .net component for terminal emulation. http://www.dart.com/default.asp I have used both and am now polishing up my telnet client using vs 2005 and their .net component. I need to work with IBM to get device licensing incorporated into this client. Communicate with legacy applications using VT-52, VT-100, VT-220 and VT-320 terminal emulation. The Vt control is a powerful terminal emulator that enables you to build custom terminal emulation applications for .NET. Integrated Telnet capability, using the best-selling PowerTCP Telnet for .NET component, enables the Vt control to start a session with as little as one line of code. Also includes a custom font with VT multinational and graphic characters, a FontDialog control that manages fixed-width raster and True-Type fonts, comprehensive style information for every cell, and powerful printing capabilities. VT control emulates VT-52, VT-100, VT-220 and VT-320 terminals. Interprets text and escape sequences to display a screen that can be used interactively (like a regular terminal) or invisibly (to capture screen text). Screen scraping returns all the text in the scroll-back buffer as well as the display. Integrated Telnet component provides a default real-time data source, but any 7 or 8-bit source can be used. Numerous display options are available to customize your screen. Printing of the display is fully supported, as is the printing of postscript files and auto-print (prints each line as it is received). Screens can be scraped to HTML, transforming style information into HTML tags. Graphic characters for box drawing are fully supported for all fonts. Key remapping is easily coded. Dynamic scroll-back buffer can save hundreds (or thousands) of lines. Includes all the capability available in PowerTCP Telnet for .NET (Telnet, rexec, rsh, rlogin). Single development license with royalty-free distribution. Integrated Help 2.0 documentation includes over a dozen tutorials and a comprehensive reference guide with full support for dynamic help. Supports VS.NET, Delphi 8, C# Builder, and other .NET compliant development environments. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

Well ... That's the rub!! The syntax uses the XML file (ImpCoInfo.xml) and the extract mapping file (IMPCOINFO.EXT) to extract the data 'as if' it were from the data file referenced then the extract file was built... SO, there is NO 'real' UniData file in use to run this command, but makes the mapped XML data behave as if it WERE an UniData file. RE: [U2] UD Terminal Emulator using UniObjects
From my recollection, wIntegrate can run as an ActiveX control and has been used as a screen scraper emulation behind GUI (WWW) applications in the past (videotex even). It may even still be In the field to do this. If you want any specifics drop me a line off the list and I'll see what I can add. Don't know whether this helps or not? I have to ask the question though - what is it you are trying to achieve with this approach? Dynamic Connect ships at no additional cost with the databasem, but it looks as if you want a hybrid application part GUI application and part TELNET. wIntegrate gives you most of the functions you would need with its API (or possibly using a wrapper on the bare control if you need to). In addition to the Dart controls already recommended, see http://catalyst.com/ for SocketTools. Over the years I've used many of their components, including the telnet protocol library and terminal emulation library - this last one is the one you'd be interested in. Very happy with them. You can also use the internals of AccuTerm to accomplish tasks - I've use the telnet connectivity component with no UI, but never tried to use the UI with a custom pipe like UO. This is still subject to licensing but you can discuss specifics with Pete Schellenbach. May I ask exactly what you're doing with this sort of interface? I find many times that people ask how to technically implement X because they want to do function Y, and it turns out the real technical solution may be to use Z. Here we go again with the notion of banging screws with hammers... :) If you do need something special written up and don't have the resources to do it internally, I'll be happy to consider such a project. RE: [U2] [UV] - word Document
Bjorn Behr wrote: We generate a 'text/word' document from Universe. What I would like to know is does anybody know what characters I need to place in the document so that when it is opened up in Word, it is in landscape format? In order to get Word to do things you need to provide more than plain text, you need to provide specific instructions. Of course instructions need to be formatted, and there are different ways to format instructions for Word, including XML and HTML, using macros from existing Word docs/templates, or you can use Word add-ins to pump data to/from Word and U2. See an example of a product that was written (not currently offered anymore, subject to change based on encouragement from the market) to do this: http:// removethisNeebula-RnD .com/products/doc.htm For your purposes right now, you can use HTML as a base rather than plain text. Below this note is full HTML source which can be used as the base for a landscape document. Save this HTML page with a .DOC extension. Word will opens it, but to be considered a real Word Doc the user must SaveAs DOC. There is no getting around this: again, if you want Word to do special things you must somehow integrate with it. Rather than plain text, if you do use some method of using Word as a server and pumping data into it, then you can execute a macro like this to change the orientation: Sub SetLandscape() ActiveDocument.PageSetup.Orientation = wdOrientLandscape End Sub Combining the HTML provided below with macros, you could save your HTML as .DOC, then open Word and using command-line switches cause it to execute your macros, SaveAs DOC, then mail this final document to users. Lots of ways to skin this cat. Rather than using Universe as your base, it might make more sense to ask Universe to fire up a Windows process which will then read your text into a formatted Word document (template), perform the orientation change, then save the document where it can be used, e-mailed, etc. You can even tie this to standard Word mailmerge functions. You can still use your BASIC business rules, and data and everything else, it's just being initiated from somewhere else. For this, you can use tools like UO, UO.NET, mv.NET, or PDP.NET as the data conduit and for executing your BASIC code and returning data. My preference would be to use the more advanced features of the Visual Studio Tools for Office in conjunction with .NET, and then use mv.NET as the link to U2. I'll be happy to work on a project like this if requested. Before jumping into development, people might want to consider firing off an instance of Word every time they want to generate a document. Not only is this a very bad use of resources but it's subject to many issues. Opening an instance of Word (or other MS Office apps) in a Windows Service is a straight-forward process for someone who knows how, but there are MANY issues that need to be addressed, and Microsoft strongly discourages using these user-oriented products in a server context. Having a lot of experience in this area, I also discourage that sort of usage, and that's one of the reasons I no longer offer NebulaDoc as it was originally designed. With a multiprocessor box (dual core Opteron's, Yes!) you can set SQL Server to use only a set number of the processors for itself. The OS and UniVerse would then share the remaining. Aside from that and tossing lots of memory and disk into the box you should be OK. One side note is that you may find your self dealing with two systems going down at the same time when a need for a reboot comes up. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

Just a thought since I haven't tried it myself. You may have to setup a server for each windows account that you would want to use U2Editor from since the server setup seems to be windows account specific.
