Sorry Baker, I have no experience with this. I 've just heard a sales person
from Sun raising it to the skys.

Thanks Bjorn,

Do you have any experience with this, with a MV DB server?

Dmne: [U2] Single Signon for U2 - Identity Management ?

You know how when you go to bed sometimes and your brain keeps thinking
about some problem...

I've been thinking this isn't possible in U2 environment, but sometime
during the night I resolved to ask the question.

Does anyone know of an Identity Management Suite that is U2 aware? This
data security issue represents the next frontier for programmers, for
solution providers, for network analysts. Who is the frontiersman in
the U2/MV space?

What we need - single signon and immediate access to those systems,
servers, storage that your identity allows. Whatever you don't have
rights to, you can't see (an old Novell concept that Microslop still
doesn't get).

Does anyone know about an IDM solution that interoperates with the major
*nix OS's that U2 is ported to?

Thanks for any guidance.

Not sure what you mean by u2 aware. Do you mean the credentials are stored
in u2 and the validation routine has to be able to talk to u2 to validate,
or do you mean u2 has to be able to call out to the check credentials given
various parameters and get identity and access information?

openldap. Industrial strength and you also get replication and fail-over
out of the box. If you need your central sign-on credentials to be on a
windows AD then ldap can pass userid/password pairs off to AD for
verification and can also support multiple AD domains etc.

Not sure how to best call out from u2 to ldap - callc or uv equivalent
possibly? Sadly AFAIK u2 _still_ doesn't have the much discussed callJava
functionality.

CROSS at www.cross.net.au sell a native LDAP client for U2 which will
allow you to authenticate credentials against AD or OpenLDAP.

Feel free to mail me off-list if you would like to find out more about it.

[U2] Printer problem

2007-04-20 Thread Pamela J Robbins
Hopefully this hasn't been discussed before. I don't have access to my local
mailboxes to check (webmail'ing for now - yuck). We're having a problem
getting a networked HP LaserJet 3600n (color) printer to respond. It's our
first color printer. The manual says it works with PCL. We have it set up as
a raw printer just like all of our other printers. Linux can print a test page
to it and the user can print to it from their computer. We just can't get there
from UniVerse.  Any ideas?

Pamela, the HP LaserJet 3600n (color) is a host-based printer and UniVerse
cannot to date print to host-based printers. I have seen this many times at
installations where host-based printers (many times a lower cost printer)
reside. And never have I been able to get the printer to respond past the OS
test print.

I do know the next model up the HP Color LaserJet 3700n will work at it is
not a host-based printer.

RE: [U2] Printer problem

Isn't there a way to put a share name on the host computer for the
printer then on the server that is hosting the U2 system, create a
printer name? You should be able to then access the printer from that
name. You would not be able to access the advanced features, directly,
but you should be able to then include the necessary pcl codes. Just
some wild thoughts...

Assuming you have other non-color HP Jetdirect connected printers that
do work from UV, I'd suspect a setting on the printer. You might want
to check that the language setting is set to "AUTO" or "PCL". You can
also change the language setting prior to a job via a PJL command:

PRINT CHAR(27):'%-12345X':CHAR(10):
PRINT '@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE = PCL':CHAR(10):
PRINT CHAR(27):'%-12345X':CHAR(10):

If you're just not sure how to direct the jobs from the UV spooler to
the OS spooler, the following script is what we use:

#!/bin/sh
cat - | sed -e 's/$/\r/' | lp -d is_laser -o raw

The "sed" command is just replacing LF with CR at the end of the line to
eliminate stairstepping. Just enter the path to the script file in the
UV driver field.

This is pretty much what memresize does. Creates a temp file called rszt...
at whatever size you specify, copies the records and then moves the rszt
file over the top of the old. You tell memresize to create whatever sized
file you like but if too small, it will overflow as normal when the records
are written in.
