Re: [U2] Detecting idle time in INPUT statement.
Don, On Universe you can run the LIST.READU command to see what records are locks and by who. The other thing to do is place a AUTOLOGOUT for all users, logs the user out of UniVerse after a period of inactivity. -Original Message- From: u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of Don Robinson Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 6:27 AM To: U2 listserver Subject: [U2] Detecting idle time in INPUT statement. Hello all, We are running Universe 10.1 on AIX with about 500 users. We have a problem with users opening up a record which puts a lock on it and just letting it sit at the INPUT statement for a long time. Most of the locking within the application does not use the LOCKED clause so when a second person needs the locked record, their session waits. What is the best way to detect the user hasn't typed anything for a period of time, say 2 minutes? This needs to be simple as we have no desire to rewrite the application! IIRC, some other MV systems have a timeout on the INPUT but I can't find anything about this in the UV manual. Re: [U2] UniVerse on Windows unclassified
David, Have you client look at one of the users that is working. You will find that they are an admin on the UniVerse box. If they want the user to be prompted for the account. If they want the user to log into a specific account then they need to change the user policy on the telnet services to be ANY UV.ACCOUNT and then place the user in the UV.LOGIN and then they will go to that account. Note I have found problem with this working on some versions of UniVerse and Windows with a DNS other than the UniVerse Server. This new user, when they get the Telnet log on and put in their user name/password is NOT being asked for the path to account they want to go into. They are being 'dumped' into the UV account. And then they cannot 'log to' anywhere else. The customer swears this new user is built just like all others -- a Domain User with 'User Rights' on the UV Server. Rocket tech support has said the is fix is that users HAVE to have Admin rights in order to be prompted for the 'UniVerse account' Something seems wrong with that answer. I mean, I am guessing it will fix the issue, but I hate passing out Admin rights when the real answer is probably something else. So -- What else might be the cause here?? Re: [U2] UniVerse/NT default login account
I do not believe that I have been clear on this issue. Have a current server windows 2003/ UniVerse 10.0.21 where everything works. All user are directed to the live account when then login. There are no entries in the UV.LOGINS. There is a register entry in UvAccount which contains the account name that is in UV.ACCOUNT. On a New server windows 2008 R2 / UniVerse 10.3.10 set it up the same way and it does not work. So then I added the users to the UV.LOGIN and have they go to the live account but it does not work no matter what user policy is picked ( Home, Any, UV). I have stopped and restated the service after each change. -Original Message- From: u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of David Jordan Sent: Friday, December 09, 2011 11:39 AM To: U2 Users List Subject: Re: [U2] UniVerse/NT default login account Hi Kathleen Try any directory. Hi George, As a general rule in programming, comparison of floating point values for equality should be avoided. This is because, just as we cannot write the number one third accurately in decimal notation, so the IEEE floating point format used by computer systems cannot store numbers accurately. The example that I use when teaching training courses is 14.2 which actually ends up as something close to 14.197. UniVerse gets around this with a wonderful concept called wide zero that says, when testing for equality of floating point numbers, they must be within some specified value of being equal rather than strictly equal. The default wide zero error tolerance, set in IEEE format with the WIDEZERO configuration parameter, is 2.91 * 10^-11 (2^ 035) which is good for most business applications but occasionally needs adjusting. Unidata has a command, SET.WIDEZERO, to serve the same purpose but defaults to 0.0 for backward comaptibility. RE: [U2] Friday query logic
If this is not working, create a dictionary item that does the evaluation you want and have it return a 1 if it meet the condition and a 0 if it does not. Dictionary would look like IF FIELD[1,2] # SF OR FIELD[1,2] # SH THEN 0 ELSE IF CONVERT(SH,,CONVERT(SF,,OCONV(FIELD,MCA))) # THEN 0 ELSE 1 Then you would be a select based on this dictionary be equal to a 1. -Original Message- From: Eric Armstrong [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:17 PM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: RE: [U2] Friday query logic Bill, Sorry for not responding sooner, but I agree with the comment below. RE: [U2] UOJ and value-mark and field-mark

F1 is a single value field, F2 is a multi-value field and the value is one value-mark-separated list, F3 is a single value field. It has the following sample record in the file: Field Name Value @ID t101 F1 F1V1 F2 F2V1:@VM:F2V2 F3 F3V1 I use the following UniObject for Java code segment to retrieve the record t101 from the file: //uSession is a UniSession Oject uSession.connect(); //Open a file variable to TESTS file. UniFile testFile = uSession.open(TESTS); //Read the record out String key = t101; UniStirng uString = personFile.read(key); System.out.println(bthe full record:b+uString); System.out.println(bthe number of fields in the file:b+uString.dcount()); When I print out the contents of the record, it looks like UOJ converts all the value marks at the field F2 into the field mark. When I use dcount() function to count the number of fields in the output, it returns 5, instead of 4. I think the correct result should be 4 since only 4 fields (@ID field, F1, F2 and F3) in the file. It seems that read() function converts all the value-marks into the field-marks. So the values at the field-F2: F2V1:@VM:F2V2 becomes F2:@FM:F2V2. That is why I got 5 instead of 4 when we use dcount() to count the number of fields in the output. We are running Unidata 7.1 in Red hat Linux server. I already set the environment variable LANG to bCb. I even tried to set LANG to ben_USb. Both times, the UOJ program returned the same result. Does anyone know how this happens? I want to keep the original value-marks and field-marks after using read() function. When I tried to install the PE version of UniVerse on her PC it failed to Register the universe.dll and terminated the install. I then tried it on my own PC with the same effect. Both these PCs are newly built with an Intel dual core CPU. This seemed to be a possible common denominator as we tried the same zip file on a slightly older single core CPU and had no problem. All these PCs are running XP with SP2. Does anyone know if the PE version is not available for dual core or is this likely to be something else we have done. Any suggestions welcomed.
