Has anybody had success running wIntegrate or Dynamic Connect in a wine

Dynamic Connect. It runs successfully for about 2 minutes and then
appears to go into loop where the cursor flashes all over the screen

Re: Integrate xterm or Linux emulation

2004-02-24 Thread Donald Kibbey
A windows based terminal emulator in a wine box on linux? Sounds very painful...

Why not simply run one of the many linux based terminal packages or simply use telnet
or xterm. If this is due to some sort of emulation issue, I'll bet that somewhere
in your application in a universe far far away, some twit programmer used a bunch
of hard coded emulation strings instead of calling out to the correct terminfo
functions. The correct way to move forward is to find those spots in the application
and fix them.

This could be happening because a record that esearch is reading exceeds

[UV] blocking certain files from activating for transaction logging

2004-02-24 Thread Stevenson, Charles
I am looking for a trick to prevent someone (ok, mostly me) from
accidentally activating a file that really should not be activated for
logging.

I have a handful of files, that would bring the system to it's knees and
fill all logs before I could react.
For example, one file contains the current status of a bunch of
phantoms. Nothing that really needs logging, but there is a
tremendously high volume of writes as status flags, counters change.
Then there's an ugly file that is nice except for one 650KB(!!) record
that is changed all day long. (Yes, I know, change the ap...).

Maybe this should be an enhancement request.

RE: UV 10.1 on RedHat AS 2.1

2004-02-24 Thread Anthony Dzikiewicz
I got my answer from support on the PORT.STATUS problem. What needed to be
done to allow non root users to view a complete PORT.STATUS was to

chmod u=rws /usr/bin/ipcs
chmod u=rws /usr/ibm/uv/bin/list_readu

This does a 'suid' to those files.

MASTER OFF ALL is still a bug as far as I know

However, there are some differences
in the PORT.STATUS command. If you issue this as non 'su', then the display
is limited to your user only. On DG/UX you would be able to see everything
for all users. I tried to set the 'sticky bit' on the program to make it
work and I cant seem to make it work the same as it does on DG.

Did you install as root or uvadm? If you did it as uvadm, make sure that
uvadm owns list_readu in /.uvhome/bin. I vaguely recollect that when I did
the uv install as an upgrade some things didn't seem to get chown'ed
correctly...

[OT] Making Linux bootable CD

2004-02-24 Thread Martin Phillips
OK, I give up. Someone out there must have done this and have the
answer

I need to set up a new Linux system. I have downloaded the five RedHat 8.0
.iso CD image files. I now need to make a set of bootable CDs. Everything
on the RedHat web site starts from the assumption that your CD writer is on
a running Linux system. Mine isn't. It's on a Windows 2000 system. I have
Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 which has an option to write bootable CDs.

RedHat suggest using cdrecord. This in turn requires CygWin. I downloaded
this but the instructions don't work because the commands they use aren't
there. I want to do the job with my existing Easy CD software.

I have spent the entire day trying to do this. I will be forever grateful
to anyone who can email me the steps to make these CDs. Unless you think it
is worth publishing to the whole group, please email it to

This might not be helpful, Martin, but in case it is, here are the details
of how I would do it:

1) Find a college student who is running linux and has a cd writer
2) Have them make the CD's
3) Buy them a pizza

I'm sure there are other methods that would work as well, but this is my
preferred approach to such problems. Cheers! --dawn

UniCommand via UniObjects (Java)

2004-02-24 Thread Donald Kibbey
I'm attempting to send a compound command with the UniCommand object and have hit what
looks like a documented limitation. Before I go off and rethink how I'm doing this, I
thought I'd ask to make sure this really won't work.

What I'm attempting is to run something like this under UniObjects.

QSELECT CLIENT.XREF 12345 :@FM: SSELECT AR.TR BY MATTER WITH INVOICE = 12345

On this system, doing this results in a very quick selection of a couple hundred
records out of the AR.TR file. But, the docs for UniObjects say only one command at a
time. Does this mean that sticking a couple commands together like this is just not
possible? I've tried it and it looks like the QSELECT is being attempted with all
parts of the command string.

If it won't work, I suppose I'll be reduced to writing up a stub of a program to do
the same thing and just call it from the UniObjects side of things. But, if there's a
better way, I'm all ears.

Thanks,

Sorry, I haven't tried this with Uniobjects, perhaps it's stripping the @FM
somehow??

You could always put the commands into a paragraph and run that - or write a
program that executes all of the commands that it is sent...

 QSELECT CLIENT.XREF 12345 :@FM: SSELECT AR.TR BY MATTER

Is there some problem with executing two UniCommands in succession? I
try to minimize the RPC calls, but if it's just two I probably wouldn't
move it up to the database server.

[not tested]
uCommand = uSession.command (QSELECT CLIENT.XREF 12345);
uCommand.exec();
uCommand = uSession.command (SSELECT AR.TR BY MATTER WITH INVOICE =
12345);
uCommand.exec();

(I'm not sure if UniCommands are mutable, you might be able to do
uCommand.setCommand() for the second one.) Since you're in the same
session, it should keep the active select list.
