Jonathan,

Thank you for the question. The desire to use circles for frame control
widgets is not from OSX. The symbolism comes from the Ubuntu logo. As
the Impression theme design is based on Ubuntu, IMO it makes sense.

As the widgets are small it is difficult to craft icons which display
detail. However, if you hover your mouse over the widget a description
is display which should novice users.

This is the name for the network icon, the one that appears in
"Places>Network".
I don't know if in the icon naming specification there's a different name
for "Network" and "Network Workgroup". I didn't find it at

Hi

Your icon look very good. But ... if you used 2 icons that are
graphically very close (almost same), they must be some analogy between
these icons. With current design:
preferences-system-network - fully agree, good design and analogy
network-workgroup - good design, but this icon will better suit for
network icon

I mean ... network-workgroup - you may use same icon but add to it some
kind of groups, at example minimally 2 groups ... differently colored
nodes and paths.

Nice work on the spheres/network. Maybe you could make the nodes look

Here's my idea for something better than the circles, but which follows the
sort of outline-color-changing that I really like in your example. They even

@ Saleel

Well I'm not real gui designer either but I'm trying my best at creating
usable themes. Regarding the progressbar it is usually so rapidly moving
that you don't see anything. In the cases you see it I want to "attract" the
attention of the user to the part that is moving forward by making it more
orange.

Well the arrows are not a big problem because without them the interface
looks much more consistent and because we all use the scroll wheel or drag
the sliders instead of clicking on arrows. I have made a special version of
arrow states that will fit the new scrollbars and everybody will be able to
turn them on/off by simly modifying 2 lines of the gtkrc file. I wish there
was some small graphical python utility to do that but I have no experience
at this.

Difficult to say, unless seen in action. But from the static preview, my
gut reation is to exclaim "Too Orange, draws too much attention."
however the current horizontal progressbar, I note, takes up too little

Thanks for the quick response.

Well the horizontal progressbar is only experimental right now (yes it's
new) but it seems to integrate well for now. What do you think about it?
Thorsten Wilms did not liked it but I think it is just fine. On the other

You can call me impulsive, but I believe that this is *pretty darn close* to
the kind of "human" feel that we have been searching for. In addition to
that, It takes advantage of an already popular theme for this release. The 2
things that appear to complete the feel are the icons and the wallpaper. I'm
not too keen on the image and text in the corner. Since it detracts from the
consistency of the wallpaper. However, I do find the texture of the
wallpaper to fit quite well. I'm highly interested in where you got the
icons though.

It's important to say, that I find this desktop attractive because of its
"rustic" quality, which others might translate into raw, unkempt, or just
cute. Are we looking for something more professional looking? Perhaps we can
use the wallpaper and icons as a starting point and straighten out the edges
and textures a bit to make it feel a bit more clean and pro.

I'd like to say sorry about posting this with not appropriate title
thus associating it with the new member J. Hubbard.

If allowed I will make some sketch-ideas for possible Metacities-Buttons
this evening or tomorrow ;)

For no misunderstand, I like the first (only round) very much. Only I
don't get warm with it, because it's too similar to the Mac-Design. :)

You can discuss issues with out team on this mailing list, per irc on
irc.freenode.net, channel #ubuntu-artwork or by filing a bug. Naturally we also
have the wiki (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork) as well.

This info is available also at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/FAQ (as well as
other places on the wiki).

What don't you understand?

It came from Mat Tomaszewsi and myself

While we do try to discuss things with the community the decisions are always
made by Canonical. Due to a combination of forming a new team and deadlines
there was no time to discuss this design on the list. Because of this, we
tried to include it in the release as soon as possible so that it could be
thoroughly tested, etc.

Yes and if there are no problems it will be the final

See above ;)

Hi

It will be good to find way (wiki, blog, etc ...) how to periodically
talk with these ubuntu art "professionals". People are creating artworks
(personally ... there are some artworks on higher level than official
ubuntu artworks) and later are surprised how ubuntu looks and from where
that design come.

Hi,

Nothing on this list is official, when it comes to what will be used in Ubuntu,
it's all up to Canonical. They've got their own "professional" art team as well
as this list.
