Re: [ubuntu-art] Ubuntu Forums design assistance
I'd like to help, I like using CSS! Let me at it, if possible! Included them all in my new mockup, but perhaps it should be a single menu, or the actual actions right on the bar, depending on their max. number. I realize that such heavy modification can be problematic, but I wanted to see where I end up, applying more of the ubuntu.com style: http://www.foopics.com/showfull/24cab922804efd5587f7d8d6109d168a Login and Search button shown in disabled state, as they should be, if the entries are empty. Though, on ubuntu.com, the pictograms are kept in orange. But what you have here are illustrations, not statusicons that indicate the presence or lack of unread posts, plus whether there is a single forum page or set of forums (called a category). (At least I guess the read/unread thing applies to Category icons, too.) In any case, I see a problem of weighting: the icons look like they would be the most important thing in the body area, by far. That's why I used rather small stars on http://www.foopics.com/showfull/24cab922804efd5587f7d8d6109d168a These rather simple and symmetric don't call for attention so much. The Category titles/links are marked by the lack of stars! BTW, I noticed the light gray for the forum is #f7f6f5. It should be #f7f7f7, like used on ubuntu.com. -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/ -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[ubuntu-art] Idea for compiz/unity logo-icon
hey all, Let me introduce myself first, My name is coz ,, I do most of the graphics for compiz, ie, ccsm icons,,,splash,,etc. I am also on the cairo-dock team again mainly graphics as in themes. Being one of the official support team for compiz , and knowing to switch from mutter to compiz on the next unity release, I was playing around with the idea a logo for the release. This is not final , for sure, but an idea , http://dl.dropbox.com/u/132551/compiz-unity.tar.gz These are in svg format, using canonical / ubuntu colors Let me know what you think coz -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Re: [ubuntu-art] Flickr is the best interim Image Repository
We could also use spreadubuntu.org engine, I think the only thing it lacks is explicit linking to images on which a work is based, but that doesn't seem that hard to add. I don't think openclipart.org-like remix button approach is a good idea. An image can be based on several works, all of them must be credited as sources, and openclipart.org doesn't allow that. Moreover, a remix button would be useful if it would open an image editor, and then it would upload the result to the website; now it just uploads an already finished remix - it should be called upload your remix and it's absolutely useless, IMO. And one more thing to consider: we'll have to deal with external sources of images a lot. Yes, remixing content from our website is good, but externaly stored images (photos from Flickr, SVGs from OCAL, all kinds of stuff from DeviantArt etc.) will be heavily used as well, and we should provide an easy way to mark an image stored *anywhere* as a base for one's work. I guess the best way to link images is just a couple of URL input field to pages containing the images used in one's work. URLs leading to our website should be recognized and (maybe) handled like in AIKI/OCAL. I wanted the compiz/unity logo / icon to be somewhat simplified ... [ubuntu-art] Contributing In Meaningful Ways
Hello Everyone, It is my firm belief a fundamental driver to the success of the Artwork Team will be the ability to contribute in meaningful ways. To affirm that commitment to you I would like to list current and planned activities. *Current Activity* *Ubuntu** Forums* The item which has the mailing list abuzz is the response to Mike Basinger‘s request for design assistance with the new Ubuntu Forums. This is a community site which receives high visibility and the success of this task will benefit the community as a whole and is worthy of your time. Post your suggestions and feedback to the mailing list. *Artwork Team Logo* This may appear trivial but I cannot think of a more important task than branding who we are. The outcome is high visibility and the benefit may serve us for years to come. Post your questions, suggestions, and thoughts to the list; your submissions to Flickr. *Planned Activity* *Default Artwork* I anticipate requests to contribute default artwork from the community and greater community. These requests will be high visibility and add value. *Specific Requests* I anticipate requests to contribute specific artwork such as logos, icons, and banners. All of these requests will be important and add value. *Infrastructure Improvements* A stated desire at UDS was to create a site which supports our processes, adds value to the community, and stores data in a secure reliable manner. This task will require many hands ( designers, artists, coders, engineers ) and folks who are willing to support the desired result. Now is the time to be actively involved as the tasks will multiply. If your desire is to contribute to Ubuntu and the greater community in a meaningful way there is no better place than here. [ubuntu-art] LibreOffice project: request for contributors and mentoring
Hi, :-) I'm a member of the LibreOffice community. LibreOffice (LibO) is the office suite project of The Document Foundation (TDF), the community-driven organization that recently forked from the Oracle-managed OpenOffice.org project. TDF/LibO is currently working on its branding and on its artwork for the LibreOffice distribution. We are currently very short of GRAPHIC ARTISTS. Notably, right now, we urgently need creative talent to help us design artwork for our websites. We need to develop a logo, and - hopefully - a MASCOT along the lines of Linux's Tux, to act as a living ambassador that achieves lasting recognition of our brand and products in people's minds. But we also need talent to work on icon sets and other artwork on an ongoing basis. A number of Linux distributions have announced their intention to ship LibreOffice with their future releases. We know that they frequently do re-branding work to integrate their chosen office suite in lines with their project's thinking. So we are keen to involve you in our project branding and development, so that we ship releases that better fit your needs. LibreOffice and The Document Foundation could also benefit from MENTORING and from close and ongoing involvement from established Linux projects, especially in these early days when we are developing our infrastructure and organization. Like you, we passionately value and believe in Free Open Source software (FOSS). We very much ask you to get involved in our project and influence our development. We seek your comments and advice and contributions.
