The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2.

Codenamed "Oneiric Ocelot", 11.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition of
integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a
high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.  The team has been hard at
work through this cycle fixing bugs and introducing a couple of new
features as we polish up for the release.


Ubuntu Changes since Beta 1
---

Some of the new features now available are:

A new set of community supported ARM architecture images will be
available between now and the release.   The armel+ac100 for the Toshiba
ac100 netbook is available for download now, and armel+mx5 targeted at
the Freescale i.MX53 Quick Start development board will be available in
one of the upcoming dailies.

GNOME got updated to current unstable version (3.1.92) on its way to
GNOME 3.2

OneConf has now been integrated into the Ubuntu Software Center to help
keep your installed applications in sync between computers.

And we continue to improve the underlying infrastructure:

Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 improves support for installing 32-bit library and
application packages on 64-bit systems

Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 has a new kernel based on v3.0.4.


Ubuntu Server
-

Beta 2 includes Orchestra which is a collection of the best free
software services for provisioning, deploying, hosting, managing, and
orchestrating enterprise data center infrastructure services, by, with,
and for the Ubuntu Server.

Juju (formerly codenamed Ensemble) is now available as a part of Ubuntu
Server to handle service deployment and orchestration for both cloud and
bare metal.  Juju has many Charms available, including OpenStack
deployment.

Xen hypervisor has been re-introduced to Ubuntu Server.


Kubuntu
---

Kubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 has the latest KDE software including KDE 4.7.1
Plasma Workspaces and Applications.

Along with KDE 4.7.1, the new KDE Personal Information Management
(KDEPIM) suite 4.7 is included, which includes the new Kmail 2.

The Muon Suite 1.2 which includes Muon Software Center and Muon
Package manager is now available.

Dear All,

Lately, I was trying to gather my thoughts and ended up with realizing one
thing (perhaps I went kinda philosophic,too). When our euphoric fantasies
drop on the hard surface of reality, regardless of our age and maturity
standard, we start acting childish.

Another important thing I would like to remind to all of us, if we cannot
use the freedom of speech wisely, we don't deserve it at all. We should
really mind that when we exercise of that.

Hello everyone,

I have not been very vocal lately. Time has come to break the silence and speak 
up.

Following Mouyoukh and Masnun bhai's mail a thought trickled my mind. I was 
wondering what might be the reasons behind the ranting (Yes I am not saying 
that one party attacks blindly when the other party just sits idle. Clap needs 
two hands to make a sound). Beside Masnun bhai's well constructed reasons, I 
find some more reasons which **might** have something to do with these constant 
flaming that's happening lately.


The issues being :

1. Dubious language. Really, no-one here is reluctant enough not to understand 
the shortcomings and cons of Linux that needs blatant praise by outlandish 
language. The blind outlandish language that often gets used is annoying enough 
let alone the tone. Often unreasoned allegory being brought up too (Someone 
brought up caretaker govt issue in this very topic).


2.Lack of tolerance is one of the main reasons this is happening. When we start 
something groundbreaking (namely, getting involved with FOSS here) we should be 
rational.


3.Lack of ubiquity. Back in early 2009 when Bangladeshi Linux groups counts 
only handful of few and knowledge was nurtured and youngsters were brought up, 
everyone had a surreal sense of ubiquity. That is truly and surely, gone. 


4.No moderation at all. I know there had been mishap. But the way moderators 
let go off any rules and regulation is saddening, truth be told. If someone is 
busy, there could be a stop gap solution.


5.Putting up unnecessary data is very **disgusting** . We really do not want to 
know whose language skill is in which level or who is the member of where. That 
looks more like hefty self endorsement than a nifty signature. Churns gets 
included on a cosy mail every now and then in this list that those need not 
mentioning. We all should learn how to deliver concise, sharp speech.


6.Last but not the least, there is acute lack of unified goal. One starts an 
organization , one starts criticizing, one dubbed one as "procrastinator" 
 List goes on.. Where is it ultimately heading? Nowhere. Quite 
simply, in vain. The realization needs to be there that this is not the way our 
oldfather wanted us to be.

Vamoosing , ranting, swearing , cursing gets nobody to nowhere. The unity, 
peace and sense of reliability is crucial for a movement of this magnitude to 
be successful.

Let's discuss honestly what do we want, how can we achieve it and let's be 
unified. Godspeed.

First of all, I appreciate the events organized by FOSSBD. Something is

better than nothing.

But the events organized by FOSSBD are actually much better than just

"something". They're doing pretty good. The only point they are lacking is

public relations.



I am not against FOSSBD, no one else is. If we were not Linux enthusiasts,

we would not stay subscribed to this mailing list so long. We all are on the

same boat. When an email comes to the group inviting to an event or

summarizing the achievements of an event, questions may come. In fact those

emails are sent to the group to interact with the members of the group. We

shouldn't always expect praise and appreciation. We should accept

**constructive** criticism as well. If you want to promote an event through

a public mailing list, you should have the courtesy as well.



I am probably the person who has written most emails with questions and

criticism. I have been vocal against the price issues, news mismatch,

slogans etc. I have never flamed blindly, I have tried to provide some

alternatives as well. But looks like the criticisms are not being accepted

well. My queries are being replied with offense, being taken as aggressive

gestures. Personal attacks follow. The worst thing I notice is the attitude

-- "I am doing it all, so you can't criticize me or my work". I have

appreciated the installation booth, I have called the revised pricing scheme

fair but people are still not convinced.



Constant flaming has become a regular phenomenon in the mailing list. I have

identified a few reasons :-



-- Personal disliking and disputes



-- Lack of openness (people don't want to admit that they are wrong, I will

never say I made a mistake)



-- Thinking others stupid and less knowledgeable or effective (I have been

told to **study** several times as if I didn't know anything, I have been

blamed inactive once)



-- No explicit guidelines and moderation from Ubuntu BD team. We know Shabab

vai once started an initiative of small signatures, still we see some people

don't give a damn to those.

First of all its nice to see that foss movement is marching on full scale
even after many people have left the scenario and new faces are coming up to
take the blank space.

However its evident from past few events organization there arises some
questions regarding various factors/decision and then organizers while
trying to defend their decision starts to get emotional, one thing leads to
another and there comes personal attack.

If you can't face criticism smartly then stop posting immediately, take some
time and then post well thought answers.

Many of you are aware that due to poor user handling/moderating and failure
to defend/justify their actions many popular community groups such as bdlug
or blua failed to prevail, they are now extinct like dinosaurs.


Thus I urge all parties involved to think about it and respond smartly.

শ্রদ্ধেয় নাসিম ভাইয়ের ই-মেইলের পর আমিও কিছু লিখবনা ভেবেছিলাম । এবারের ইভেন্ট
এর বিষয়টাও এড়িয়ে গিয়েছি, মনে প্রশ্ন থাকলেও করিনি, সবার সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর
দেওয়ার মত মানসিকতা থাকেনা  ।

জনাব সাজেদুর সাহেবের ই-মেইলের পর আরেকটা রেপ্লাই লিখতেই হচ্ছে ।


> বহুসময় ধরে অযথা বাক্যবান ব্যয় করতে দেখছি কাউকে কাউকে। কোনরূপ গঠনমূলক
> সমালোচনার বদলে নিজের ব্যক্তিগত মতামত কমিউনিটির উপরে চাপিয়ে দেবার প্রচেষ্টা
> আর যৌক্তিকতা না মেনে চলার প্রচেষ্টা দেখে বেশ লাগছে।


আমার কোন মেইলেই লেখা ছিল না যে তা কমিউনিটির মতামত । কমিউনিটির সবাইকে মূর্খ
ভাবা উচিৎ নয় যে তারা বুঝবে না ইমেইল টি কার ইমেইল একাউন্ট থেকে এসেছে ।


> সাংগঠনিক আলোচনা থেকে
> ব্যক্তিগত খোঁচাখুঁচির দিকে মোড় নেয়ানোর চেষ্টাও রয়েছে বেশ। "বিচার মানি, তবে
> তালগাছ আমারই" এইরূপ কথাবার্তার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে কিছু লিখবো না বলে মনস্থির করার
> পরেও আর পারা গেলো না।


ব্যক্তিগত খোচাখুচি এই থ্রেডে কে শুরু করেছে একটু আগের ইমেইলগুলো থেকে দেখে নিন
।

> আমাদের দেশে বাল্ক অর্ডার করছে কোন সাধারন ব্যবহারকারীরা বলতে পারেন? তবে এইটা
> ঠিক যে শিপইট চালু থাকাকালীন সময়ে মাগনা ডিস্ক ৫-১০-২০-৫০টা অর্ডার করতে কারো
> আপত্তি থাকতো না। আবার ওগুলো পাবার পর বছরভর ড্রয়ারে ফেলে রাখতেও মনে দ্বিধা

কেউ এনেছে তাতো বলিনি, বলেছি কেউ **আনলে** বাল্ক অর্ডারে আনবে খরচ বাচানোর জন্য
। আশা করি আমার বাংলাদেশি বাংলা আপনার বুঝতে অসুবিধা হয়নি ।

> আমার ধারনা ছিল এই কমিউনিটিতে সবাই অযথা বেগার খাটে । আমার মত যারা অলস কিংবা

এসএসএফ সম্পর্কে অন্যরা পড়াশোনা করেনি ভাববেন না । আপনি একাই পড়াশোনা করেন আর
কেউ করেন না এটা ভাবা ভুল হবে ।  আর আমরা কে কত পড়াশোনা করেছি বা জানি সেটা
আমাদের জ্ঞান নিয়ে কেউ হাস্য রসাত্নক কথা বলেন কিনা তা থেকেই বোঝা যায় ।

আপনাদের "বনের মোষ", "বেগার খাটা" কথাগুলো শুনলেই বোঝা যায় আপনারা কি জন্য
বিরক্ত । এছাড়া বিভিন্ন সময়ে ফসবিডির সদস্যদের ইমেইলেও একই কথা উঠে এসেছে যে
আপনারা কষ্ট করে কাজ করেন আর লোকে সেটাকে সাধুবাদ না দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করে । এটাকে
আমি সমবেদনার আকাঙ্খা হিসেবেই দেখি ।

আর মহৎ? আমি নিজেকে অসচেতন বসে থাকা মানুষ ভাবি । আমার গুনমুগ্ধ কোন সহকর্মীও
বোধহয় আমাকে দেবতা দাবি করেনি ?

> এমনটা কিন্তু কখনোই নয়। বন্টু-মিন্টু'র আড্ডাতে টি-শার্টের স্টলও কিন্তু ছিলো
> এবং সেখানে মূল্যের বিনিময়েই ওগুলো সরবরাহ করা হয়েছিলো। মূল্যবিহীন বা ঢালাও
> বিতরন করা হয়নি।

হার্ডওয়্যার এর মূল্যটা ইউজারের দেওয়াই উচিৎ । ইউজার নিশ্চই ৫০টাকা দিয়ে ডিভিডি
কিনত না ।

> কোন প্রজেক্টের "ইকোনমিক সাসটেইনিবিলিটি" নিয়ে ব্যবসায় প্রশাসনের ছাত্র হিসেবে
> আপনারই সবচাইতে ভালো জানার কথা। আর নরমাল চায়না ডিভিডি আর সিলভার ডিস্কের
> পার্থক্য নিশ্চয় জানা আছে আপনার?

ইকনোমিক সাস্টেইনিবিলিটি নিয়ে কথা বলতে গেলে এই ই-মেইল আর শেষ হবে না । তবে
ইকোনোমিক সাস্টেইনিবিলিটিকে প্রফিটেবিলিটির সাথে গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না যেন । আর
বিজনেস আর নন-প্রফিট অর্গানাইজেশনের কথাও আশা করি আপনি জানেন ।

 ডিভিডির দামের কথা কিন্তু আমি শুরুতেই "ফেয়ার" বলেছি । কিন্তু সেটা কি আপনারা
পড়েননি নাকি পড়েও না পড়ার ভান করছেন কে জানে ।

আপনার এই উৎসাহ প্রদানই পারে বাংলাদেশে আমাদের সবার অংশগ্রহনে প্রযুক্তিকে
মুক্ত করার এই আন্দোলনকে আরো বেগবান করতে।


> আমি "বন্টু-মিন্টুর আড্ডা"তেও ছিলাম। আমার লেভেলে আসলে অংশ গ্রহন করে উৎসাহ
> দেয়ার, আর পরিচিত মানুষদের এই পথে আসতে সাহায্য করার বাইরে করার উপায় নাই।
> এই দুই জায়গার অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে কয়েকটি মতামত দিচ্ছিঃ
> ১) লিনাক্স ইন্সটলেসন বুথ- এই আইডিয়াটা দারুন। সামনের সব কটি প্রোগ্রামে এটা
> রাখা যেতে পারে।

থাকবে ইনশাল্লাহ।

২) আমরা কেউ ব্যাবসা করতে আসিনি, তাই "ঘরের খেয়ে বনের মোষ তাড়ানোর" পরও যদি
> টাকা নিয়ে কথা তুলে, তাহলে মানুষ মাত্রই খারাপ লাগার কথা। তাই এমন ব্যবস্থা
> থাকা দরকার যাতে টাকা নিয়ে পরে প্রশ্ন উঠতে না পারে। সেজন্য
> লিনাক্স ইন্সটলেসন বুথ এর পাশে আরেকটি বুথ রাখা যেতে পারেঃ নাম- "ISO/Software
> distribution বুথ"। দুই ভাবে এটা করার সুযোগ দেয়া হবে। ক) সম্পুর্ণ বিনামূল্যে
> নিজ নিজ পেন ড্রাইভে খ) নায্য মূল্যে CD/DVD তে।

৩) ব্যপারটা যাতে পরিস্কার বুঝা যায়, সেজন্য কাগজে বড় করে "বিনামূল্যে"
> "নায্যমূল্যে" লিখে আলাধা টাংগানো থাকবে।

ইনস্টলেশন ও সাপোর্ট বুথ আর ডিভিডি/সিডি/আইএসও বিতরন বুথ দুটো আলাদা আলাদ রুমেই
ছিলো এবারে। তবে মূল্যের বিষয়টা সরাসরি উল্লেখ করে রাখা হবে পরবর্তী আয়োজনের
স্থলগুলোতে।

৪) অনুষ্ঠান এর আমন্ত্রণ/ঘোষনা পত্রেই আগ্রহীদেরকে নিজ নিজ পেন ড্রাইভ সাথে
> নিয়ে আসার জন্য বলা হবে।
>

এবারে সেটা বলাই ছিলো। তদুপরি একজন আগ্রহী কিন্তু ১০টা ব্ল্যান্ক ডিভিডি কিনে
এনে পছন্দের সব আইএসও আর ওপেন সফটওয়্যারগুলো রাইট করে নিয়ে গেছেন (ওনার পিসির
ইউএসবি পোর্টগুলো নষ্ট আর রাইটারে রাইট করতে সমস্যা হয়)। অনুষ্ঠানে সরাসরি অংশ
না নিয়ে মানুষকে সহায়তা করার এই আনন্দটুকু পাওয়া আসলেই অসম্ভব একটা বিষয়।


> ৫) আগে আসলে আগে পাবেন-নীতি মেনে চলতে হবে। সেজন্য অনলাইন রেজিস্ট্রেশন কারীরা
> অগ্রাধীকার পাবেন। তবে বুথের সামনে তাৎক্ষণিক রেজিস্ট্রেশন করে সিরিয়াল মত পেন
> ড্রাইভে নেয়ার সুযোগ বহাল থাকবে।
>

ব্যবস্থাটা ঠিক এরকমটিই ছিলো এবারের আয়োজনে।

বহুসময় ধরে অযথা বাক্যবান ব্যয় করতে দেখছি কাউকে কাউকে। কোনরূপ গঠনমূলক

বন্টু-মিন্টু'র আড্ডার আগে যে সিডি-ডিভিডি বিতরন কর্মসূচী ছিলো সেখানে হয় ইউজার
নিজে সিডি/ডিভিডি নিয়ে আসতো নইলে মূল্য দিতে হতো। হার্ডওয়্যারের মূল্য ছিলো না
এমনটা কিন্তু কখনোই নয়। বন্টু-মিন্টু'র আড্ডাতে টি-শার্টের স্টলও কিন্তু ছিলো
এবং সেখানে মূল্যের বিনিময়েই ওগুলো সরবরাহ করা হয়েছিলো। মূল্যবিহীন বা ঢালাও
বিতরন করা হয়নি।

একটা মাল্টিলেয়ার (চায়না) ডিভিডির বর্তমান বাজার মূল্য প্রায় ৬০(ষাট) টাকা আর
ভালো মানের ডিস্কের মূল্য ১২০-১৫০ টাকা। যেখানে আমরা বানিজ্যিক ভিত্তিতে তৈরী
করাতে পেরেছি এবং মূল্যে ভর্তুকি দিচ্ছি বলেই ডিস্কের মূল্য ৫০টাকার মধ্যে
সাধারন ব্যবহারকারীদের সরবরাহ করতে পাচ্ছি।

এখনো দেশের অনেক জায়গায় লিনাক্স প্রেমীরা আছেন যারা সিডি ডিভিডি বিতরনে আগ্রহী।

কোন প্রজেক্টের "ইকোনমিক সাসটেইনিবিলিটি" নিয়ে ব্যবসায় প্রশাসনের ছাত্র হিসেবে
আপনারই সবচাইতে ভালো জানার কথা। আর নরমাল চায়না ডিভিডি আর সিলভার ডিস্কের
পার্থক্য নিশ্চয় জানা আছে আপনার?

বাংলাদেশের একজন প্রযুক্তিমনষ্ক এবং সচেতন নাগরিক হিসেবে এটুকুই বলতে চাই,
একসময় আমিও চায়না ডিভিডিতে রাইট করে মানুষকে দিতাম। কিন্তু যেদিন থেকে বুঝতে
শিখলাম যে প্রযুক্তি পন্যের বর্জ্যে একসময় পরিবেশগত দিক থেকে এ দেশকে কতটা
ক্ষতি করবে, ঠিক সেদিন থেকেই পরিকল্পনা ছিলো যদি কাউকে একটা ডিস্কও দিই তো সেটা
একটা মিনিমাম মানসম্পন্ন ডিস্ক হতে হবে। আর তারপর সেটা প্রথমবার নিজের পকেট
থেকে প্রায় কুড়িহাজার টাকা খরচ করে তৈরী করি এবং প্রজেক্টটা যেনো যে কোন
স্বেচ্ছাসেবী চাইলেই বহন করে নিয়ে যেতে পারে আজীবন সে লক্ষ্যে ঘোষনাও
দিয়েছিলাম।

টাকার কথা বাদ দিলে আপনাদের অবদান আরো মহৎ হবে । আপনাদের প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রত্যেক
> বিভাগেই সদস্যরা আছেন । তাদের কাছে এই ডিভিডিগুলোর এক কপি দিয়ে দিন । তারা
> সবাইকে আইএসও কিংবা ডিভিডিতে কপি করে দিবে । যার লিনাক্স লাগবে তিনি সিডি বা
> ডিভিডি তার সাধ্যমত কিনে আনবেন সেটাতেই রাইট করে নিয়ে যাবেন । সারা দেশে না হোক
> বিভাগীয় শহরগুলোতে এটা বোধহয় করাই যায় ।

আমি দুঃখিত যে আপনি বারংবার টাকার কথা তুলে কি বোঝাতে চাইছেন। আমি একটা জিনিষ
পরিষ্কার করে বলে দিতে চাই যে, পারলে এই প্রজেক্টের দ্বায়িত্ব নিজে বা দলগতভাবে
বুঝে নিয়ে এগিয়ে নিয়ে চলুন কিংবা ফালতু বুলি কপচানো থেকে বিরত থাকুন। কেননা কাজ
করাটা কঠিন, সমালোচনা করা খুবই সহজ কাজ।

বহুসময় ধরে অযথা বাক্যবান ব্যয় করতে দেখছি কাউকে কাউকে। কোনরূপ গঠনমূলক
সমালোচনার বদলে নিজের ব্যক্তিগত মতামত কমিউনিটির উপরে চাপিয়ে দেবার প্রচেষ্টা
আর যৌক্তিকতা না মেনে চলার প্রচেষ্টা দেখে বেশ লাগছে। সাংগঠনিক আলোচনা থেকে
ব্যক্তিগত খোঁচাখুঁচির দিকে মোড় নেয়ানোর চেষ্টাও রয়েছে বেশ। "বিচার মানি, তবে
তালগাছ আমারই" এইরূপ কথাবার্তার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে কিছু লিখবো না বলে মনস্থির করার
পরেও আর পারা গেলো না। কেননা --

আমাদের দেশে বাল্ক অর্ডার করছে কোন সাধারন ব্যবহারকারীরা বলতে পারেন? তবে এইটা
ঠিক যে শিপইট চালু থাকাকালীন সময়ে মাগনা ডিস্ক ৫-১০-২০-৫০টা অর্ডার করতে কারো
আপত্তি থাকতো না। আবার ওগুলো পাবার পর বছরভর ড্রয়ারে ফেলে রাখতেও মনে দ্বিধা
করতো না।

আমার ধারনা ছিল এই কমিউনিটিতে সবাই অযথা বেগার খাটে । আমার মত যারা অলস কিংবা
> অসচেতন তারা অনলাইনে বসে থাকে । আমাদের দেশে আরো অনেক ইভেন্ট হয় । আগেও
> লিনাক্সের নানা ইভেন্ট হয়েছে । কোনদিন দেখিনি ইভেন্ট আয়োজকরা এভাবে বার বার
> তাদের পরিশ্রমের কথা জাহির করেছেন । এইভাবে বোধহয় সমবেদনা পাওয়া যায় না ।

এফএসএফ বা ফ্রী সফটওয়্যার ফাউন্ডেশনের সাইট থেকে একটু পড়াশুনা করে আসুন।
সফটওয়্যার ফ্রীডম আর প্রাইসলেস সফটওয়্যার বিষয়ে একটু জ্ঞান হবে। আর আপনার কাছে
সমবেদনা চেয়েছে কে, কবে? নিজেকে হুট করে অতটা মহান ভাবার চেষ্টা করবেন না।


> আপনার এই কথা শুনে আমার যেটা বলতে ইচ্ছা হচ্ছিল তা হল - "আপনাকে বেগার খাটতে

গেছে আজো অবদি। আর তাই এইরূপ কথা শোনার জন্য আমরা প্রস্তুত থাকিই। কেননা
 কি না বলে, আর . কি না ...?

Yes, I understand that. I also didn't say anything about the price this
time. In fact, I rather praised the pricing scheme as fair. But it all took
the turn when Shamim vai fired up about the pricing issue. Though he didn't
mean to attack, the issue was not probably necessary in this thread.

We can all leave this topic here. But if anyone is not complaining, it's
better to let go the past memories. We all have our pasts, not that those
are always clean :)
