Does it install ubuntu as standalone OS or is it virtual machine-like environment? Virtual machine softwares may have issues with these drivers. In that case i would recommend you to use vmware or virtualbox. If you want to customize one then start with other distros based on Ubuntu. If you want to customize one then start with other distros based on Ubuntu. The main benefit of a DVD than a CD is to get access to all of the available language packs.And we all know we only need two Languages, English and Bangla. So I think I we can custom made a DVD where we can pacth up the 700 MB CD installer and 1 or 1.5 GB of commonly used software with dependencies, I think that will be a lot more helpful and useful for is than a 4 GB DVD installer. I got that idea from another Ubuntu derivative, called Ubuntu Muslim Edition ( http://ubuntume.com/contents ). Thay have a DVD version (2.8 GB only), in which they included Ubuntu-Restricte-Extra, Arabic Language, Quaran recitation, A bunch of other Islamic and educational softwares. So if we can bulid a DVD like that, I think that will be a much more helpful to general people than 4GBx6 DVD repos. NB: Plz don't tell me to build one like that. Actually I have a proposal. Its not for now, may foe the next release. Well, Some of us got the DVD on Ubuntu nad besically that DVD does not help people much. The main benefit of a DVD than a CD is to get access to all of the available language packs.And we all know we only need two Languages, English and Bangla. The rest of the DVD became a waste in the most of the cases. So I think I we can custom made a DVD where we can pacth up the 700 MB CD installer and 1 or 1.5 GB of commonly used software with dependencies, I think that will be a lot more helpful and useful for is than a 4 GB DVD installer. I got that idea from another Ubuntu derivative, called Ubuntu Muslim Edition ( http://ubuntume.com/contents ). Thay have a DVD version (2.8 GB only), in which they included Ubuntu-Restricte-Extra, Arabic Language, Quaran recitation, A bunch of other Islamic and educational softwares. So if we can bulid a DVD like that, I think that will be a much more helpful to general people than 4GBx6 DVD repos. NB: Plz don't tell me to build one like that. Well, after I upgraded to 8.10 3rd November, I found that auto update notifications aren't working anymore. And at a later time the shutdown menu button disappeared. The shutdown button has been moved to an unified user switching applet, very useful. I'm not sure whats wrong with your update notifications though, its fine in my system. The Skype calling is not yet fixed. Thanks for the quick reply! As I am a Structural Engineer, I need to use applications (ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.PRO, etc.) which are sadly only available in Windows and does not run properly under Wine. Moreover, Finite Element solvers that these applications employ seem to run faster in 64 bit Windows. My point was not why you are on Windows or Linux. My point was why x64, and your mail answered me. Apart from your engineering applications, most of the applications of the planet sux on x64 in the present time. I found people just port x86 applications for x64 (hey x86 looks higher than x64, LOL), but they never change the core engine, which they should. Even latest version of Microsoft Office runs as in compatibility mode on a x64 platform. That sux! The pure x64 platform of the platen is OS X. Even their applications are awesome. To keep supporting x64, Apple is discontinuing Cocoa platform, which still supports x86. Companies like Adobe would get into trouble, as they have a large number of users and future version of OS X will not be able to run present Adobe apps if they don't change their platform soon.
