I wonder if anyone can advise re this. I'm not getting copies of my own posts to the list, though my subscription options have this set. Sorry to post about an admin matter, but I've e-mailed the listowners twice about this, and had no reply. Any suggestions about fixing this would be most welcome. (At one level, it's no big deal; but it's irritating 'cos it messes up the threading.) It drops copies of your own mail coming back to you as it already has a copy (from when you sent it). Unfortunately, if you're not using the web interface that means you don't see the message coming back. You'll have to install Brasero on your Ubuntu installation, unless it's available on Tiger - I'll look later, but I'm watching Match of the Day at the moment, and I've only just realised that I've already inadvertently sent 2 replies! We've got time for you to try writing the disk image on the laptop. Like I've said, though, if you can burn a disk image with software on your existing Mac, give it a go. We could try installing off your pen drive, but I want to keep it simple, so we'll start off with the intention of using a CD. We may need to play with the BIOS (check wikipedia for definition), but on this I haven't got the slightest idea how Apple machines approach this. Something else to look into. Get whatever disks your drive supports. Any CD you can write to should be okay. Ideally burn 2 copies just in case one fails during the actual install - this has happened with installs I've done in the past with no prior warning whatsoever. Just get as few disks as you can. The forum thread is a bit daunting in parts, but at least the people on it are reporting success! I might try and get in touch with the people who posted there for their experiences after the weekend, seeing as though they're using these specific machines. Back to partitioning, I'll look further into this and hope people on the list post their thoughts on it, too. Don't forget, though, that it's your computer, so you're the boss. Just because people might be helping you out, this doesn't mean that you're under any obligation to accept anything you don't want. I'd suggest setting the Mac up to use Ubuntu only, and ditch Mac's OS. The reasoning behind this I've mentioned before. I'd add that my opinion is that you're better off sticking with one OS to avoid confusion and not water down your knowledge across multiple OSes and applications. Get to know one well, rather than two superficially. You need to consider this choice, and I don't mind whatever you decide. I am happy to agree with you. Mac Tiger is a decent job but has an annoying way of hiding each of the several different ways of doing something - which is maddening when one's memory isn't what it used to be. Searching in Ubuntu I find intuitively easier and less confusing. Here's roughly (ignoring 1024) what I'd do with an 80gb disk with, say, 1gb of RAM (RAM we need to confirm since conventional wisdom is to set a Swap partition of double your amount of RAM): / (root) 8gb ext3 bootable /home 70gb ext3 /swap 2gb I can only accept your advice on this (amended for 60gb HDD) Finally, don't thank anyone yet. We've yet to do the work. I even thought about making the journey to Robin's and suggesting that list members could make some contribution to the costs. But I drive a gas-guzzler and it'd cost a small fortune. Besides, I haven't got that much spare time right now. I thought about posting a CD, but burning an ISO isn't that tough to justify it. I think it also helps when you're doing any task to learn associated tasks that aren't that complex - like burning disks - along the way, because once you've got the knowledge you can adapt it in other ways. I think the Shipit idea is a good one - and one that Robin's taken up - but I think most people would rather just download the image and burn it. It's faster and more convenient this way but a lot of people find doing some things new difficult at first. Oh, and I'm not Mother Theresa. Seeing as though you aren't interested in video and audio, space shouldn't even remotely be a problem. The desktop is hosted on your HDD, so if you download it to your Desktop directory, you'll have it on your HDD. Secondly, with the downloaded iso, you use a disk burning application to burn the iso to the disk. Look for an instruction like: 'Burn Image to a CD'. This is very different to merely copying the iso file to a CD. Ai galera, Problema resolvido. Passei para o kernel os parâmetros: acpi=off apm=power_off e funcionou. Vi pessoas na net que colocaram também apm power_off=1 no /etc/modules, mas isso me parece redundante. O estranho é que eu não tinha nenhum parâmetro desses no kernel no Edgy e funcionava normal. [Ubuntu-BR] tecla do pipe e barra invertida não funciona. O que fazer para consertar?
Pessoal, Instalei o feisty e não tinha a opção teclado abnt2 no instalador. Depois de instalar a tecla pipe, ao lado do z, não funcionava. Editei o xorg. conf conforme a sessão abaixo e a tecla voltou a funcionar. Mas depois de uns boots a tecla pipe passou a funcionar com e , invés de pipe e barra invertida. Como uso o kde, selecionei o layout abnt2 nas configurações, mas mesmo assim não fucionou. Alguém mais teve esse problema? Como posso resolver? Olha, esse problema exatamente eu não tive, mas eu imagino o que seja. Vou
passar o passo a passo, mas no final tem um link para um pacote, com todos as
correções necessárias.
Abra o arquivo /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86, e vá até o final, e
verifique se ele está assim:

Pode ser que a sua linha do include esteja diferente, e que haja dois outros
códigos de tecla. O mais correto, já corrigido no svn do freedesktop, é esse
aí.
Depois, abra o arquivo /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/br, e procure por essa
linha:
key AC12 { [bracketright, braceright, masculine,masculine ] };
e muda para
key BKSL { [bracketright, braceright, masculine,masculine ] };
Depois, a linha:
key BKSL { [ backslash,bar,masculine, dead_breve ] };
para
key LSGT { [ backslash,bar,masculine, dead_breve ] };
E, por fim, se ninguém ainda notou, a imagem do teclado que é mostrada pelo
applet de teclado do Gnome também não está correta (veja que ela não mostra o
ponto do teclado numérico), e o arquivo a ser editado é
o /usr/share/X11/xkb/geometry/pc. O trecho a ser alterado é um pouco extenso,
e deixar ele com está não muda nada, as alterações acima já corrigem o mapa
do teclado, pelo menos no X.
Agora, se você quiser pegar todos os arquivos já alterados, pode ir em
www.TecladoBrasileiro.com.br, e entra na página Instalação no Ubuntu. Você
pode ignorar a parte sobre instalar o pacote deb antes, e passar direto para
o arquivo tecladonativo-feisty.tar.bz2
Depois dessas correções todas, a única coisa que ainda não ficou certinha é a
seguinte: com a imagem do teclado na tela, aquela mostrada pelo applet de
teclado, quando você pressiona uma tecla, ela acende na imagem. Todas, menos
a tecla /?°, e imagino que isso seja algum problema no código, já que a
imagem aparece correta.

[Ubuntu-BR] Não consigo configurar o modem!

entao kra, o meu é SmartLink mesmo... é pq os modems HSP56MR usam driver smartlink e os HSP56 micomodem, usam o driver da PC-tel... mesmo assim eu tentei compilar o driver da smartlink mesmo, porem da o seguinte erro: http://rapidshare.com/files/28630792/erroregassado.txt.html mesmo assim eu acho q nao seja nenhum problema, pois o modem esta funcionando e instalado ja pq senao o nao tinha respondido ao comando no Gnomeppp... OMG, nao consigo mais ficar aki no windows, to kerendo ir logo pro ubuntu... Acho que os winmodems não produzem som ao discar (o meu não produzia). Então é possível que ele esteja discando. Olá! A coisa aqui está feia. O ubuntu não quer ajudar o ceguinho, SOS E o Skype menos ainda. Quando dei o comando skype ele fala que o comando é invalido. Aí fui no navegador de arquivo e cliquei duas vezes no Skype e ele nem piscou!!! Reiniciei o meu computador e fui no gnome-terminal e fui para o diretório do Skype e digitei skype e enter. Aí o gnome fecha sem nenhuma explicação. Instale o skype pelo repositório, e não por um arquivo!! Adicione o seguinte repositório (qq dúvida nesse etapa, só falar): deb http://download.skype.com/linux/repos/debian/ stable non-free agora é só ir no synaptic e instalar o skype, ou no terminal dar um sudo aptitude install skype. [Ubuntu-BR] ADSL Autoconexão com atraso (d elay), como faço ?
Pessoal, eu uso conexão adsl aqui, e sempre, depois do login, espero uns 20s pra estabilizar a linha, e digito o comando 'sudo pppd call provedor' pra conectar, no terminal, seguindo-se a senha, claro. A questão é: há um modo de colocar esse comando na inicialização, mandando aguardar esse tempo (ou especificamente o sincronismo da linha), e depois autenticar ? Como faço isso ? hm, finalmente um howto para usar o beryl nessa placa que ensina como fazer usando o driver proprietário. Todos os outros ensinam a remover o driver proprietário e usar o livre, eu até pensava não ser possível usar o driver proprietário. Vou testar isso outra hora. Bom, ao contrário do que eu pensava, o driver livre da radeon tem sim aceleração 3D, mas não sei se compara-se em performance com o drive proprietário (fglrx). Por outro lado, para usar o Beryl é mais simples com o driver livre e este funciona com o aiglx ao invés do xgl. Só testando pra ter certeza do que é mais eficiente. O que eu não gostei neste howto é que ele manda desativar o repositório universe, o que eu achei um absurdo, e eu realmente não vou fazer isto, vivo explorando os programas que estão disponíveis nos repositórios do ubuntu, mas deve haver algum jeito de contornar isso. Outra hora tento seguir o howto, tentando dar um jeitinho para não desabilitar esse repertório, aí digo a vocês como ficou ^^. Mas valeu pela dica do howto!!! This is an IMPORTANT message for people who want to order shirts.. I just spoke with the supplier. Black t-shirts/polo's and all colors with sizes greater than XXL (XXXL and L) have to be ordered before 1st of May 2007, so I don't think we'll be able to do this anymore. I didn't know I had to order this fast. I hadn't contacted the supplier yet. So I am really sorry for that! But: Navy Blue t-shirts and polo's up to size XXL can still be ordered for a longer time. [Поиск] SSH клиент

Помогите настроить PPPoE c mppc.
Перешёл с ubuntu 6.06 на 7.04, теперь не могу настроить интернет. Для подлючения у нас в сети необходима mppe/mppc, ms-chapv2. Для поддержки mppc пропатчил ядро патчем linux-2.6.20-mppe-mppc-1.3.patch.bz2. Так же прпатчил ppp для поддержки mppc патчем ppp-2.4.4-mppe-mppc-1.1.patch.gz Настройки ppp перенёс из 6.06, там интернет работал. Подключаюсь с помощью rp-pppoe. В чём может быть причина? Может я что-то не допатчил? modinfo ppp-mppe-mppc говорит что такой модуль есть. Ещё нашёл что из mppe -H -M +S -L -D -C -С обозначает что компрессия, т.е. mppc, выключена.
