Thanks...

I'll change the style of the scrollbars... The only problem is, that I'm
working very hard at some other projects now...
And the problem with non-gtk apps... I really don't know how to fix
it... I'll contact the devels of the projects...

Thanks for the help; gtk_compile.sh worked. I neglected to run
configure the first try, just ran make and make install. I really
like how the menus and tabs have a consistent look. I also like that
the scrollbars have good visibility and that gtk color choosing is
integrated into the theme. The subtle gradients in the buttons and
progress bars are nice as well, but don't match the glossy look of
the scrollbar. You're probably aware of this, but the menus aren't
unified in non-gtk apps like Firefox, and the top-left pixel is
missing. Also, default shadows in Compiz and Metacity's compositor
create a shodow across the top of the menu, spoiling the unified look.
I noticed in the screen shot you configured compiz to render the
shadow below the top of windows, which works well. Metacity's
compositing doesn't allow for that configuration, however. Thanks for
 the hard work!

  Hi there!

Here is my official announcement of my
  interpretation of the clearlooks-engine.
My version is called creamlooks. Ut us based on
  clear-/xl_cheeselooks, but has some advantages:
  I. Bugfixes:
In xl_cheeselooks there was a problem with windows
with menubar but without toolbar. It was very ugly.

  II. New features:
  1. I tried to change the menus and menubaritems that
they look like one single widget (We discussed that
  before...). It works now.
  2. I wanted to be as close as possible to Ken's
Union-stuff. I think some parts looks very close to
  this...
  3. The ugly (my opinion) patterns on the
  notebook-tabs are changed.
  4. Most corners are a little bit less rounded.

You can download the stuff here:

You can read more about it (screenshot...) here:

RE: Grub fast resume

2008-03-18 Thread Xu, Martin
Matthew:
I have do some research on getting the symbol offset from save snap-shot
image through KALLSYMS_ALL. I can not fid a way to get the symbol
offset, because, in order to get the resume needed symbols offset, we
must know the some other symbols offset, such as kallsyms_addresses and
kallsyms_names.
So we have to come back to our original discussion. In order to make our
discussion more clearly and efficient, I want to clarify our opinions.

1. (Your)Matthew's suggestion to remove the fast-symbol file
I(martin) agree with Matthew's suggestion.

2. Matthew's suggestion to get symbol offset from system.map file
Martin agree with the suggestion

3. How to sync the system.map with the S4 image snap-shot (How to select
the proper system.map for S4 image-shot)
1) martin's suggestion on it.

Suggestion 1 if we can assume that the system.map has persistent naming
style,
Get kernel version from snap-shot and use it to choose the proper
system.map file

Suggestion 2 If we can not make the assumption to system.map,
We can try all the available system.map, and find suitable one, if can
not find, just normal boot

Suggestion 3Just show all the available system.map file to user and let
user to select one.

2) Matthew's suggestion
Let user designate a kernel image and get the kernel version from the
image, and select on system.map file.

Martin's comments on Matthew's suggestion:
1, still can not understand your suggestion clearly.
2. do not think it is right to get kernel version from kernel
image.
Mathhew:
Could you please think about my suggestions, and give me more
clear information on your suggestion? Thanks.

Hi Martin,

I think you have an older version of image-creator. Please go to
http://moblin.org/documentation_howto/howto_create-image.php on
www.moblin.org http://www.moblin.org/ for latest documentation.

Also you can get the latest version of moblin-image-creator (MIC) form
moblin website.

You can do all tasks through GUI or command line - it does not matter. There
isn't an ideal platform but it has been tested well on Ubuntu Gutsy and
Hardy.

Thanks,

Subject: test-running the UI

Hi all; just joined the list as I'm eager to see what's in store with
UME.

I'm following the directions here, just hoping to test-run the UI:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded/CreatingAnImageForUMEDevice

It's easy to follow until I reach the Choose a Functional Set section.
My
issues:

1. I can't seem to find any documentation to help me choose which
functional
set I should choose for my purposes -- I'm fine assuming that
samsung-full-mobile-stack, as shown in the example is most
appropriate,
but please correct me if I'm wrong or point me toward more info on this

2. At the end of this section I come to this: ...we can use the
Terminal
button to open a chrooted terminal and run the hildon environment
directly
in a Xephyr session. How? I got Xephyr installed but I don't really
understand its README well enough yet to know how to actually make
UME/Hildon run in it. I'm trying to figure it out myself but hoping
someone
on the list can help set the context better for all this, because it's
is
all new stuff for me.

Thanks,
Rob

Can someone give the full command using ffmpeg or mencoder to encode

   upload to various video sites?
Goggle is way much faster :)

Sure, but not if one is 15 km away from the nearest CDMA tower and
accessing the internet from that.

ffmepg -i input_file -ar 22050 -ab 32 -f flv -s 320x240 output_file.flv

This one encoded to flv without audio. Wonder why. So I played around
with it and found this one working:

ffmepg -i input_file -acodec pcm_s8 -ar 22050 -ab 32 -f flv -s
320x240 output_file.flv

well I was under the impression the the enconding part was also
handled by the various video sites .

Never uploaded any video, so I do not know.

Incidentally, I've since read some very good reports about PCSpecialist

I think it's the 2G Surf model that doesn't allow the RAM upgrade - it's
soldered on. As to the SSD, the first few batches had an empty mini-PCI
Express slot, which could be used to add a larger SSD, but more recent
batches have been missing the interface (presumably to save on costs).
So far as I know, there's no way of telling (without opening it up)
whether a particular Eee PC has the slot or not.

Personally, I'm waiting for the new 900 series to come out, as there may
well be some second-hand bargains on Ebay.

The model with the extra pci-e slot has a serial number starting 7a,
indicating the first production batch. I will probably be putting mine
up for sale when the bigger screened version comes out, or another
competitor comes along that offers the features I want. I don't think I
would get one with a hard drive in it, the ssd is perfect.

The only downside is the screen is a bit small, and if I was to get
another I would get a black one as the white gets grubby quickly,
especially in a college environment with lots of chocolate around!

Re: Completely unable to install Hardy?

2008-03-18 Thread Christian
Hi Al,
Actually you can install Ubuntu hardy using the Alternate CD with BRLTTY. I
installed it just fine.
All the best,
Christian

Hi all,

I understand that the method for an accessible install is currently being
reworked; However, I tried to install Hardy over the weekend and as of
right now, none of the old methods for getting the installer to talk seem
to work at all. Putting the .orbitrc in /root seems to have no effect,
and the instructions on the wiki at the below URL didn't work either:
http://live.gnome.org/Orca/UbuntuFeisty

So as of this moment, is there a usable workaround, or are we just in a
holding pattern until the issue is resolved?

Thanks,

Celebrating Hug Day - 20 March 2008

2008-03-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio Garrido
Hello Ubuntu Lovers,

Following with Thursdays Hug Days, the March 20
we'll be celebrating a NetworkManager Hug Day:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugDay/20080320

Our goal is to deal with all of the bugs on that list.

Who can join the Hug Day? Everyone. You don't need to be a developer.
You don't need to know to code. Everyone is welcome. If you don't know
how to help, then just come and we'll explain you everything.

In a Bug Day, you can
* work in a nice team,
* make sure the bug reporters' concerns are heard,
* gather all the information needed so developers can fix bugs,
* close useless bugs,
* find out where the bugs come from,

and eventually

* work together with upstream to make changes happen,
* get experience in hacking and fixing bugs.

Where to join the Hug Day? #ubuntu-bugs on freenode IRC. And you can go
there every other day too!

When to join the Hug Day? Next hug day is on Thursday, March 20, 2008
In all timezones.
But again, you can go there every day and help with triaging the bug
tracking systems.

While you are welcome to apply to join the Ubuntu Bug Control team at
anytime, Hug Day is a great day to join!

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugControl

If you're interested in helping to make the next release of Ubuntu even
better - please stop by. And feel free to ask bdmurray, ogasawara,
pedro, heno and the rest of the team for ways to help out. We hope to
see you there and your name on the list of bug triagers!

Have a nice day,

pedro.

Re: [Ubuntu-BR] Normas abnt

2008-03-18 Thread francisco mendes caruso
Bom dia

Obrigado pelo off topic

Você precisa converter o arquivo primeiro.
Faz o seguinte pra ficar mais fácil, baixa o programa Mobile Media
Convert da Miksoft http://www.miksoft.net/mobileMediaConverter.htm

Acho que isso resolve o seu problema.

[Ubuntu-BR] Drive externo USB

Nunca me aconteceu

enquanto o Windows usa o Latin-1.

A partir do ME ele suportava

Windows XP and Windows 2000 limit partition creation to no larger than 32GB
on FAT32. This limitation is by design: Microsoft wants you to use NTFS for
large drives. If you use Windows Me or Windows 98 to format a drive, XP and
Win2K can use a FAT32 partition larger than 32GB; however, these OSs can't
create the partition. Also, keep in mind that when you use ATA/IDE hard
disks larger than 127GB, you might need to update your computer's or hard
disk controller's BIOS to properly support those larger drives.

perfeitamente no Wine.

fbclient.dll, msvcp71.dll e msvcr71.dll

mensagens do wine, caso haja algum erro.

Delphi dentro do wine, funcionando belezinha.

Um abraço!

Re: [Ubuntu-BR] Drive externo USB

2008-03-18 Thread hamacker

diversas. Para utilizar EXT2 no Windows, instale o programa IFS2EXT :

http://www.fs-driver.org/

http://www.aquafold.com/

Veja um breve parecer sobre a ferramenta:

Aqua Data Studio is a database developer's complete Integrated Development
Environment (IDE). The IDE provides three major areas of functionality: A)
Database query and administration tool B) Suite of compare tools for
databases, source control and filesystems, and C) a complete and integrated
source control client for Subversion (SVN) and CVS.

Database IDE: The database query and administration tools allow developers
to easily create, edit, and execute SQL scripts, as well as browse and
visually modify database structures. Aqua Data Studio provides an integrated
database environment with a single consistent interface to all major
relational databases. This allows the database administrator or developer to
tackle multiple tasks simultaneously from one application.

Compare Tools: The suite of compare tools allows the user to easily view the
differences of RDBMS servers, databases and schemas for database tasks. The
tools also allow the user to view the differences of files, directory
structures, source control files and full revisions.

Version Control: The version control client provides a complete client to
Subversion and CVS repositories, allowing the user to easily manage all
source control repositories within one easy to use IDE.

*OS Support:* Windows | Linux | OSX | Solaris | Java Platform

*RDBMS Support:** *(Oracle - 10g/9i/8i) (DB2 UDB - 9/8/7) (MS SQL Server -
2005/2000/7/MSDE) (Sybase ASE - 15/12.x/11.x) (Sybase Anywhere - 10/9/8)

Espero que ajude.

At the next meeting, we will be discussing more for the Hardy release

[Bug 203433] [NEW] cp command doesn't preserve selinux context

2008-03-18 Thread tgelter
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

Attempting to demonstrate the power of selinux I tried the following
demo (works in RHEL):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# ls -lZ /etc/shadow
-rw-r-+ 1 root shadow system_u:object_r:shadow_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
/etc/shadow
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# cp -a /etc/shadow .

-rw-r-+ 1 root shadow unconfined_u:object_r:var_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
shadow

As you can observe, while the cp -a (cp -p obviously is no different) preserves
ownership and permissions, the selinux context is not preserved.
This has been flagged as a potential security risk because, as you can see,
selinux becomes quite useless if contexts can't be preserved while copying
things around.
Note: the mv command preserves the selinux context as expected.

[Bug 140051] Re: xf86-video-amd: fails to autoconfigure

2008-03-18 Thread ckranich
Hello Martin-Éric,

Thank you very much for the precompiled packets!
(With the help of them even a linux newbee like me was able to get it running)

Beside saying thank you I wanted to report back that Xorg starts successfully on
aValue ECM-LX800 3.5 CPU module (LX800 chipset and Phoenix Award Bios 6.00PG)

The only issue I got is that together with IceWM the button faces and window
title bars show
garbage (or even a copy of the CPU load graphics!). But possibly this is an
issue of my
IceWM setup (running on top of a Ubuntu Gutsy server for minimal footprint)
I will test other windowmanagers too to see if the issue is IceWm-specific

Kind Regards,

Christian

[Bug 119180] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] OOo started with -headless exits with 0 on errors, breaking scriptability

2008-03-18 Thread Chris Cheney
Actually even though it doesn't look like it is running it is at least
on Ubuntu hardy. It only runs one instance of openoffice but tells it to
open the port, etc.

I was able to tell this by running:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsof -n | grep 8100

soffice.b 24548ccheney 52u IPv42051019 TCP
127.0.0.1:8100 (LISTEN)

So I am marking this bug as Fix Released. If after upgrading you
continue to have this problem of not being able to actually connect to
OOo in headless mode, not that it doesn't show up in ps (which is not a
bug), then please feel free to reopen the bug.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

[Bug 203433] Re: cp command doesn't preserve selinux context

2008-03-18 Thread tgelter
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: coreutils

Attempting to demonstrate the power of selinux I tried the following
  demo (works in RHEL):

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# ls -lZ /etc/shadow
  -rw-r-+ 1 root shadow system_u:object_r:shadow_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
/etc/shadow
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# cp -a /etc/shadow .

  -rw-r-+ 1 root shadow unconfined_u:object_r:var_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
shadow

As you can observe, while the cp -a (cp -p obviously is no different)
preserves ownership and permissions, the selinux context is not preserved.
This has been flagged as a potential security risk because, as you can see,
selinux becomes quite useless if contexts can't be preserved while copying
things around.
Note: the mv command preserves the selinux context as expected.

[Bug 203436] [NEW] selinux policy allows apache access to type shadow_t

2008-03-18 Thread tgelter
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: selinux-policy-refpolicy

I've been teaching selinux under RHEL for several months and just got it
set up under Ubuntu, here is an observation:

[Bug 164057] Re: problem with keyboard layout swiching

2008-03-18 Thread Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker
I'm seeing a slight variation on this in Hardy: I can't swtich away from
the first configured layout using the keyboard shortcut. If I click the
keyboard indicator applet to switch to the second layout, cycling
further through the list using the keyboard shortcut works fine until I
reach the first layout again (tested with two, three and four layouts).

My XKB rules are as follows:

_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = xorg, pc105, gb,no,fi,is, ,,
ctrl:nocaps,grp:alts_toggle

Well made a live CD and tried but it didn't recognize the MA521 card.

IT WORKS!

Re: [Bug 186164] [NEW] latex: multiple texmf.cnf files do not work correctly

2008-03-18 Thread Norbert Preining
On Mo, 17 Mär 2008, Hans Georg wrote:
What's undisputably undocumented (or misdocumented) is the fact that
kpsewhich and kpsewhere do not find the same file (as first hit).

Huu? Example please? They do *different* things. kpsewhich gives the
file as found by the kpse lib, while kpsewhere to (from the man page):
kpsewhere - Expanding kpsewhich to separately iterate over each texmf
   tree listed in $TEXMF.

So it is not surprising that they find different files, kpsewhere will
find more files. Files can be shadowed by putting a file of the same
name into a higher order directory, that is a feature.

Best wishes

[Bug 118935] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] openoffice page numbering does not allow page offset

2008-03-18 Thread Chris Cheney
It works but the 'proper' way to do it is so unintuitive that no regular
user will probably ever find out how to do it.

I have opened a new bug about the fact the way to do it properly is
very non-intuitive:

go to the first paragraph on the first page (it can be a heading).
Format - Paragraph - Text Flow. In part Breaks mark Insert and
With Page Style and set the starting page number you want.

I think i'm having the same / similar problem because when i set it to a

says it has a inet6 address so i think when we type an ipaddress it

think that's the problem.

[Bug 203442] [NEW] NM disconnect Wi-fi Lan after some time

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with and USB Wi-Fi adapter (Digicom USB Wave

connects to that LAN and I can surf the internet, normally. Sometimes,
internet is not provided from NM but I can see the blue bars, as if NM
is connected. I can't use internet, so I always have to click on the NM
applet, select the Wi-Fi Lan again and reconnect. This happens about
every hour.
